Does anyone else think that Sousuke has some of the qualities of American superheroes (i.e. Spider-Man)? :sousuke:

Hmm... let see.

Did Sousuke come from another planet?
no.....

Was Sousuke bitten by a radioactive spider (or other creature)?
no.....

Did Sousuke get caught in an accidental or deliberate mega dose of gamma radiation?
no.....

Is Sousuke a scientist that got rubbed the wrong way by an evil do-er?
no.....

Is Sousuke a mild-mannered professor by day, and a swash-buckling, whip casting, archeologist by night?
no.....

Did Sousuke's cells mutate when passing through a cosmic cloud?
no.....

Did Sousuke naturally and/or artificially take the next step in evolution?
no.....

Did Sousuke loose his parents to a criminal, see a bat, and trained in tibet?
no......

Did Sousuke, in a diabolically planned accident, get his face burned off, and gone to tibet for mental training?
no......

Is Sousuke an Amazonian?
no..... (but Chidori might be.....)

Is Sousuke the illegitamet child of a greek god?
no.....

Was Sousuke ever abducted by aliens, experimented on, and returned with 'special abilty augmentation'?
no......

Did Sousuke:
- find at a dig as an archeologist
- find washed up by a body of water as a passer-by
- find in a meteor crater as a farmer
- find/given in a 'close encounter of the third kind' as an everyday joe
an artifact (e.g. mask, ring, clothing[with/without a manual, or with one but he lost it], necklace, weird glowing ball that burys itself into one's forhead) that gives him super-human powers?
no.....

Does he fight nazi's while wearing a 'questionable-acquired secret goverment issued' rocket/jet pack?
well, maybe he is rocket man, but I would say no as there are no nazi's in FMP, but this was a close one.

Looks like the odds are stacked against him. Just tell him not to accidentally poke a hole in the fuel tank of the rocket/jet pack.... Not a good thing for the backside....

Sheesh Killer, you really thought about this! LOL  But yeah, I'd have to agree. I don't really see anything in Sousuke that would relate him to a super hero...other than the fact that he's still alive! :-o

O.K. let's rephrase that, I wasn't talking about the "superpowers" aspect.
I was talking about the "other side" that is displayed in the Spider-Man movies, The aspect that looks at the person behind the superpowers.

I don't know, I thought of this after watching TSR episodes 006 and 007.

In 006 Kaname says she feels safest when Sousuke's around and In 007 she gets scared when can't get a hold of him.

So in a way, Sousuke could be a superhero of sorts.

That's what I was saying before.

Superpowers is what makes a super hero a super hero.
Dropping the "super" changes you question completely.

Are you asking "is Sousuke like a hero', or 'is Sousuke like a protagonist'?
MegaDaffy wrote: The aspect that looks at the person behind the superpowers.
The aspects behind a super hero's super powers centers around how he/she/it obtained such powers to begin with. This always reveals a fatal "super flaw" in the superhero which can be a physical object, or an exploitable emotional flaw (aka, the Achilles heel - Achilles was one of the 'original' super heros of literature - and his weakness was his pride, not his heel). Remember the old adage "the greater you are, the further you may fall"? For a super hero, this runs into extreams. The greater or more powerful the superhero, the more devastating the effect of the flaw. (i.e. Kryptonite can kill Superman).

An achilles heel is a standard for any heroic character ('heroic' does not automatically mean 'protagonist', satan in 'Paradise Lost' was painted a heroic character, but he definatly was NOT a protagonist). For superheros, both the strengths and abilities of the heroic character, and his flaws are magnified several fold. Hence the term 'super-hero'.

If we're talking 'Is sousuke a protagonists', then this again is different coversation.

That can also be explained by stockholm syndrome.

If you're thinking that Sousuke has heroic qualities, to an extent that is true since he is one of the main protagonists of the story. Since Chidori has feelings towards him, she feels safe. There are additional reasons for her fear and anxiety:

- she feels abandoned.
- she doesn't know what happened to him and fears the worst.
- she's also afraid that she'll never see him again.

So her loss of safety is a small part of it. However those feelings towards him doesn't make him a hero outside of Chidori's point of view.
MegaDaffy wrote: so in a way, Sousuke could be a superhero of sorts.
No it does not. Sousuke does not have the qualities of a super hero. He has the qualities of a Heroic Protagonist.

He wished .. he has approached your question like all code monkey's do.
Adding lots of features the customer didn't ask for. :-D

I think Sousuke is a Super hero ....
He seems to be indestructible. I mean beaten to a pulp by Kaname and still standing. <g>

What Sousuke would say...
Suuuupa helo dewa alimasen, boku wa specialisto desu ne.... :P

The problem is that I'm not a code monkey. :D

I'm a software engineering gorilla. I take the problem, break it into a generalized use case, examine its flaws, then describe the whole process in a 1000 page requirements document that no one reads, but I'm required to write anyway.

Well, there is that. However, the same can be said for Whiley Coyote . Does that mean that Whiley Coyote is a superhero? :-o

If killability is the reason, then Sousuke has more in common with a cockaroach from Damnation Alley than a super hero. LOL

Of course! Wile E. Coyote, Supergenius, like his fellow cartoon characters (notably: Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck) continued the hilarity of slapstick comedy after The Three Stooges ended.

Oh yeah and you're lucky I don't know what an ILS Torpedo is. But I'd look out behind you (*fanWHACK*) and that's why. :sousuke:

Oh, THAT'S what that smell was.

Anyways, You would however agree that Sousuke is an, as you say, "Heroic Protagonist". Right? :sousuke:

No, but the Lamba Driver is pretty super ROBOT to me.
Is Sousuke a mild-mannered professor by day, and a swash-buckling, whip casting, archeologist by night?
no.....
Only when Kaname says so. :-D

See, even Sousuke agrees he isn't a super hero, but a specialist however. :-D

He's pretty out there, but he isn't a super hero IMO.
Kira from SEED maybe is though...
