Tessa picked up the phone and asked the communications to patch into the satelite system for a phone call. When communications stated they had and asked for destination, Tessa hestitated. When the Communication officer asked she finally answered.

"Miss Chidiri's personal cell phone, please." she asked.

"ring****ring****" went the phone.

'Please don't pick up' thought Tessa.

"Ring****Ring****"

'Be anywhere that your phone isn't, Kaname, please'

"Ring****Ring****"

'Come on, Voice mial, kick in. I don't want....'

"Click. Souske, you idiot. Don't you know what time it is, and where'd I be? No, obvoiusly you don't. Well let me tell you that I was in the middle of taking THE FINAL EXAM in World History, you idiot. And by the by, where have you been? You are missing the Final Exams, you dog." Kaname was yelling into her phone.

" I am sorry, Miss Chidori, But it is Tessa calling, not Souske" said Tessa in a small voice.

"Tessa. What are you calling for, Tessa?" asked a calmer Kaname.

"Souske has been injured in a recent....."

"How is he doing? Is he alright? Where is he? Can I see him?" the questions were comming in quick secession from the phone.

Tessa hestitated and the the phone spoke. "Tessa are you still there?"

Tessa bursted into tears and she replied, "I almost got him killed, today. I am sorry."

At this time, Melissa entered Tessa's captain's cabin. What she saw brought tears to her eyes. Here was the captain of the most prowerful submarine and best friend, crying like a baby while on the phone. She surmised with that feminine power what Tessa was doing, and who Tessa was talking to. Melissa went over to the chair and took the phone from Tessa.
" Kaname, Melissa here."

"What happened to Souske, Melissa? What did Tessa do to almost get Souske killed?" asked a almost hysterical Kaname on the other end.

"We were doing a search and destroy mission against some rebels that were attatched to Gauron and Souske got hurt. It was tiuch and go for awhile but he' ll be alright now." said Melissa.

"Can I see him?" said Kaname.

" Iam sorry, Kaname, but not right now. You know, procedure. However, when he wakes up, I'll call you, okay." said a somewhat motherly Melissa.

"Okay. Click" as the phone went dead.

Melissa put the phone down. She bent down and turned the chair towards her. She lifted Tessa's head and weakly smiled. Thi s caused another bout of tears from Tessa.

Melissa decided to hug Tessa. To show her that she wasn't alone. For the next hour, Tessa cried into her best friend's shoulder. And, Melissa tried to comfort her friend as best she could. She understood. They almost lost Souske, today. This caused tears to form in the former US marines eyes. Normally, she would try to stop them, but this time she didn't.

"Click" as the door to the captain's cabin was closed. Kurz went looking for Melissa and heard the two woman in his life having a heart-to heart. He decided to not to intervine abd walked to the galley. As he started to walk away when a junior officer was going to the captain's door.

"If you even touch that door nob, Ensign, you'll be joining Guaron and his friends in hell, you got that." said Kurz in a calm tone.

The ensign looked at the sergabt and then the door, then decided to ask how long he should wait before giving the report.

"Morning. Make sure everbody know that if anybody enters that room, tht they'll be talking to my M9. Got that." said Kurz over his shoulder.

The ensign made sure that order was carried out.[/i]

Interesting! Interesting! Any idea where you're going to take this
fic Belisarius? I liked the Mao / Tessa thing--least Mao has some
sense in not driving Tessa bananas all the time. Kurz seemed alittle
out-of-char when he made sure no one went to see the Captain,
but rather touching none-the-less that he can be considerate sometimes

I do. As for Kurz OOC moment, remember he has a girlfriend in the hospital that he is caring for. He just remembers when he heard about it and the pain of that moment. I also feel that they are all family and will try to help the best they can to one another. Doesn't mean that he will not rag Melissa on it.
I feel that Melissa sees Tessa as a little sister. To picked on when she gets to rowdy, but protected from the realities of the harsh and unforgiving world. I also believe that deep down that both Kaname and Tessa do like and admire each other, but both have the 'I will win no matter what' mentality that get in the way.

...I'm not saying Kurz is ENTIRELY inconsiderate; it just seemed alittle
odd. Nonetheless, an enjoyable read!
