Unknown Hospital
One Day After SOULS Brawl

“Ryo… Ryo, wake up.”

That voice, where is it coming from? I can hear it, but who is saying those words? Why is it so dark like the nightfall? My eyes, are they covered or are they gone?

“Ryo, please wake up.”

I can’t wake up. The light, I am almost to the light. Someone, someone is trying to… I hear crying. Who is crying? It can’t be mother; she is far away from me. Her cries are soft and quiet. Her tears are next to my face, I feel it dripping slowly to my neck. Please stop crying, whoever you are.

“Please…Stop crying” I whisper to the girl.

My eyes started to open, seeing a blurry vision of a big room with a light beige color. The crying that I was hearing and feeling the tears, they were from Saeki. Her eyes were red and were very sad. When she saw me staring at her, I touch her right cheek with my hand.

“Saeki, there is no need to cry. I am here, I am not dead. Please don’t cry.”

I look down to see myself wearing hospital clothing and seeing no IV attach to my arm. I was just lying here, alone with Saeki.

“Ryo, I was worried about you. You just left and I thought you would come back. But you didn’t and I saw you running away from David. Then Souske saw a black helicopter that pass our school, going to the same direction that you went when you left the school. Everyone was worried about you, since you just came to our school. Kaname wanted to see you today but she couldn’t come because she had to do something. She gave me a present for you to have.”

The present, which turns out to be a Bonta-kun doll with a get well card made me smile a little. From what I learn from Saeki, Kaname really loves Bonta for some reason. I figure it must concern her mother, who may have given it to her when she was young before she passed away a few years back.

“Tell her I love the doll. It’s really soft and comfy. I’ll make sure it’s safe and sound when I go home today.”

After sustaining injuries from my upper body area, the doctor told me I needed three days of rest and two weeks of therapy. I slowly walk out of the hospital, with a worried Saeki by my side.

She explained to me more that she came to the hospital as soon as she heard the news I was air-lifted at the intersection alone, by a Blackhawk helicopter which was called in by a colleague of mine back at the States. I was unconscious on the dirty pavement until a passerby saw me and called an ambulance, having the police and my good friend know what was going on.

A kind nurse was kind enough to strap my left arm which hurts a lot from the attacks that David did to me. All tests that were done on me showed no signs of internal injuries, which is good I guess. No surgery was needed for me, except a recommended rest for five hours to ten hours.

“Dammit”

I curse myself because my rib cage hurts a lot from that roundhouse kick David gave me. Wearing light civilian clothes, there were no weapons on me but a spanking new cane from the doctor. Walking hand in hand, Saeki leaned her hand on my shoulder.

“Ryo, if you want I can come to your house and cook dinner for you.”

Just hearing that part made me blush not of her words, but of my mind that got me thinking of doing other things with her. Saeki, who seemed very tired and hungry suddenly made me think of a plan.

Suddenly, I saw a female police officer with black sunglasses approach our away with a smile. I smile back, knowing very well that it was our very own Wraith.

“Miyabi-san, how’s life going for you these days?”

Saeki look at Miyabi/Wraith and looked back at me, wondering who this police officer is.

“Saeki, this is my next door neighbor Miyabi Yoshiro. Miyabi, this is my girlfriend.”

Exchanging words with one another, I saw Miyabi/Wraith giving me a signal that we needed to talk.

“How about I treat you and Saeki to dinner at my home?”

“That will be great Ryo, since I have not eaten lunch yet” Wraith explain with a thin smile.

“It’s fine by me” Saeki said joyfully.

Taking both girls to my home, we all talk about what happened to my arm and injuries from David. Thankfully David wasn’t around to hear me curse about him. My home is located across from Kaname’s house as well, above a floor from Souske’s residence. Keeping a low profile, I made sure my home doesn’t interfere with Souske and Kaname.

“Well, my home isn’t first class but its enough to be decent.”

Opening the door for the ladies to see my home, Saeki gasp at my room. My room was way pass the decent level.

“RYO! Your home looks very much like a rich man’s home” Saeki said “You got an animal carpet, golden walls and a nice home for anyone to live with you.”

Miyabi giggled and just nod to me that my house met her expectations. She came to my house the day we met remember?

“Make yourself at home and I’ll make dinner.”

“What about your arm Ryo?” ask Saeki.

“I’m alright; make sure you get to talk to Miyabi more. She is a funny girl.”

Getting the necessary ingredients and pots to make my specialty tonight, I plan on making curry. I know a little of gourmet cooking but prefer Japanese dishes delicious. Humming to myself, I saw Wraith and Saeki talking very friendly.

“Maybe tonight won’t be such a bad day after all” I quietly say.


“So Miyabi did anything happen at your work today?”

I wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable and not ruin the mood for dessert. Saeki kept on darting looks at me, then at Miyabi. Staring down at my plate, my ribcage started to hurt again. Locking things into place, Wraith/Miyabi responded with a happy smile.

“No Ryo, nothing new happen except you look very marvelous. It’s a wonder where you get your handsome looks from.”

“I thank you for your kind opinion Miyabi. Maybe you can tell me what’s up with the get-up you are wearing today. I didn’t see you in that uniform except for the one that exposed your bumpers real well.”

“Ahahaha, Ryo you naughty boy” laughed Miyabi.

Gosh, even her bumpers jiggle whenever she laughs real hard. I have to keep that in mind…

“Ha ha ha sorry” I said.

We both laughed very hard and I gave Miyabi a flirty look. Saeki gripped her round wine glass, which seems that it will crack any day. Her eyes started to get wild with anger, her hand facing her plate. Now I must be careful, very careful.

“How is the curry Saeki?” I asked.

“It’s none of your business Ryo.”

Wraith’s cell phone rang and she answered with a hush voice. I couldn’t hear what she said but when the call was done, Wraith gave a signal to checkup on Angel.

“Ryo, I have to step out for a minute. I’ll leave you love birds for a couple minutes. Don’t go smooching each other after I’m gone now” Wraith said with a smile.

“Ha, ha, ha, okay…” Saeki said with sarcasm.

Weird, why is she being this way now? If she wants to play, I’ll show her how the big boys play. I mentally changed my attitude and voice, to impersonate myself to sound like a real businessman. Wraith left quickly and the room seemed cold.

“Saeki, I was just asking how you liked the curry. I did not ask your professional opinion of this curry.”

“I don’t want to tell you.”

“Why are you acting this way Saeki?”

Just looking at her face made me feel angry and nauseous, making me want to recoil from the food. Saeki did not say anything else after that.

Suddenly, my door burst open and grabbing my pistol hidden below my table, I aimed at the hallway. Saeki was about to faint with the sight of the pistol. It was Wraith. But Wraith’s face showed an urgent look on her face.

“Miyabi what’s up?” I safe the pistol on and put it away.

She was breathing hard- not a good sign.

“Come on, is something wrong?” I ask.

“Kaname is missing. Her apartment was destroyed when I-

“What do you mean destroyed? We should’ve heard the explosion if her apartment was-” said Saeki.

Wraith had a dangerous look and I gave a glare to Saeki, which shut her up quick.

“I don’t know what happen but the phone call I got was from Souske. He told me to check up on her since he was on his way back to Merida for a briefing. Her room was destroyed by three people because I saw them outside with Angel wearing bodyguard uniform. My weapons were not efficient to hit them so I took down the car marking and their descriptions.”

“You did good Wraith. I’ll call David and inform-

A dark figure in the balcony with an Uzi appears to be aiming at…

“Saeki, get down!”

Pushing her roughly to the ground under the table, the shadow fired his Uzi at my dining room. On an automatic setting, it will rip away any object apart in a second. There is no time to waste. Wraith got down and took out the pistol I once put the safety on and started shooting the dark figure.

I took my 9mm out, ripping my cast from my left arm. To Saeki discovery, my left arm was never broken or injured. The kind nurse was my old instructor at CIA HQ when I was being trained to know how to shoot people in combat. Wielding another gun, I made a roll outside the table, firing back at the figure.

Whoever the dark figure is was quick enough to attack me in the rib cage, AGAIN. I collapsed to the floor, coughing out blood. My rib cage felt like it was on fire and I became disoriented.

“RYO!”

Looking up to the figure, I saw the person take its mask off. I couldn’t believe it. The figure was David. Grinning like a pervert, he came to my side, helping me to a nearby couch. Saeki ran to the young man, shouting at him. Wraith also couldn’t believe it.

“You! You bastard, what have you done to my boyfriend?”

“Whoa babe, I don’t want your boyfriend to die on me. Besides, he and I are good friends, right Ryo? Wraith, so nice to meet you again.” David look very worried, but I knew he never meant to hurt me, yet.

“David! Wassup yo? Haven’t seen you in awhile” Wraith said while they both hugged for a bit.

“Saeki, there will be times when friends joke around with each other. These are one of the moments.” I said while I told David to come near me.

Saeki cried and ran to me before David could start walking.

“Ryo, I’m sorry.” She hugged me real hard without letting me go. Her tears wouldn’t stop falling, making David look away from us. I hold Saeki and stroke her back.

I forgot Wraith was there but she also sat down with me.

“Saeki… It’s okay, things like this always happen in relationships” I said softly.

Her eyes went wide when she look up to me. Even though I was tired, I smiled at her. She blushes a faint pink, making me cup her face softly like a piece of precious art. She wipes my lips that are stain with blood with her handkerchief. David was in my way again.

“Ryo, we need to talk.”

“Saeki, you clean up and use my bathroom. I’ll take care of the dishes.”

“No, I’ll do the dishes and take a hot soapy bath.”

She gave me a warm kiss, surprising me in front of David. Meanwhile, David was rather enjoying the scene and pretends he was taking a picture with his hands. Things are going back to normal, except Wraith was not bothering to look at us couple kissing. Saeki parted her tender soft lips from my lips and went to the kitchen.

David took the opportunity and sat next to me. I never felt so comfortable in my life until now.

“I’m sorry about the intrusion Ryo.”

“Its alright, I can fix the window later. David, why did you come here in the first place? I was going to call you because Angel got kidnapped.”

“Yeah, I received the same report too from my guys. I checked the damage in her apartment. Luckily Souske isn’t here right now or he’ll freak.”

“Ryo, Wraith, get to Jindai High School and bring a week of clothes. Wraith, you’ll also have to call Intelligence and check up the people who abducted Angel. Once Wraith gets the information Ryo, you will confirm the information and help me with the Search and Rescue (SAR) planning.

“Affirmative Captain” said Wraith. She gave me a nod and left my apartment.

“I trust that no information will be leak” said David.

“No sir, it will not be a problem.”

Captain David Santiago rose up from his couch, having myself stood up also. For now, we are comrades-in-arms.

“Ryo, just make sure you tell Saeki that you will come back to her. My first order to you is to never ever say a lie to someone you care and love.”

I stood in attention and saluted crisply.

“Your order will be carried out sir.”

David smiled but growled in a whisper.

“The second order is to not say sir to me in a public area. Do not salute to me either unless we are on a military base okay?

“Yes, uh…”

“Just end by saying: Yes David you are my God.”

We both laugh and made jokes until he left ten minutes later to see other members of SOULS. I now accomplished Sir Mallory’s order, now I must follow Captain Santiago’s orders. The time is now 1100 hours. It is time to pack and talk to Saeki now.

“Saeki”

“Ryo, I will take care of your home. Don’t worry; I won’t be sad that you will be gone for a week, a month or even a year. But please know that you will always be in my heart and thoughts.”

Saeki was doing the dishes, looking down on the soapy sink. Those words made me recall of a girl I loved so much, who meant so much to me… Haleigh said the exact same words, while she sobbed quietly.

I went behind her, breathing slowly. She makes me different when she talks to me alone. Putting two arms in front of her stomach, I hug her while I have my head on her shoulder.

“Saeki...”

“Ryo…”

We both whisper the other name. I can hear her breathing become raspy and I kiss her cheek once more. Saeki unattached herself and turn towards me. Facing me, she smiles very big like a little girl.

“I love you Saeki. I do not know if I will come back alive to you. I can never think of such things but I must do what I do best at.”

I start to smile at her and I reach for her hand. She gave me her hand and I brought it to my lips. Seeing her blush, I squeeze her hand a little bit. It’s about 1130 and I should start packing up.

“Saeki, I’ll have to start packing now.”

“Okay, want me to help you?”

I lead her to my bedroom and showed her my weapons cabinet, STU phone that will connect to Merida Island or Mediterranean Command in case of high alerts. The first aid and my own customize first aid bag were under my bed, briefly talking to her of each item’s purpose and use. The walk in closet is sort into different rows of clothes I use. Grabbing civilian, military clothes and deodorant, I pack them in my gym bag. Everything was ready; I just need to get to Jindai high school now.

“Saeki, if you have any questions, just ask Miyabi. If she’s not home, write a message for her and put it through her door.”

“Okay Ryo.”

Saeki and I are outside my room, nearly out the door. Twenty more minutes until pick up arrives.

“Good night babe. Have a good day tomorrow.”

“I will sweetie. Take care of yourself too.”

“I will. See you soon Saeki.”

Kissing her out on the door, I let go and walked out of the apartment to my destination. I never look back, because I knew she will still be there until she can no longer see me. This mission will be done and over with.

“It’s another day, another mission to be accomplished” I quietly say.

Walking slowly, no danger has come to me yet. The night has become chilly, with no moon present to shine down. The stars are out, making me look up and walk to admire them. I enjoy the stars so much, but I never pursue my career of being an astronomer. But the thought of stars only remind me of my older brother.
