[FIC] the day before (GI 9 1/3)

“No don’t touch that!” Natasha yelled at one of the guys working on the AS. “That is part A not B, and where are the cords, there are suppose to be cords here.” Natasha pointed at the piece she had now taken from the man and was point at a small inlet. The man pulled a bunch of wires out of his pocket and waved them in Natasha’s face.
“Chill out little chickadee. We have done this before.” The head of building said. He was an older man and had mentioned knowing Sousoke very well. In the six hours that had so far been spent on hooking up pieces he had taken to calling Natasha chickadee, a nickname that Natasha protested up and down.
“I know that, but this is my baby. I mean I want to make sure that everything is done just how I had planed it to be.” Natasha said stroking a hand over the upper half of the AS that they had so far assembled. Then the rock music that was playing in the background got about ten times louder. “Hey numb nuts turn that down!” Natasha yelled at Kurtz.
Kurtz rolled his eyes. Natasha had said she liked rock, what was her deal. He just wanted to have some fun. It was hard being the only AS pilot that didn’t get to pick on the new guy today. No, he got stuck dealing with a smaller and slightly less violent form of Melissa. In fact he had Melissa to blame for this, she had said he would get to work with a sixteen-year-old girl, but she had failed to mention the type of sixteen-year-old girl.
“Hey babe, I though you said you were into this kind of stuff. What gives?” Kurtz asked sliding down from the top of the banister.
“I do like this song. But, it’s my job to turn up the radio.” Natasha said running up the stairs and turning it up louder than Kurtz had had it. This kind of thing had been happening most of the morning. It was driving Kurtz a little nutty. This Natasha girl was more complicated than even, say Kaname. And she could boss people around like Melissa, and scare them the way she did. But she had his kind of humor and was extremely goofy at times. Right now she was pulling a “Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure” air guitar move. Kurtz just rolled his eyes, what had he gotten himself into? While Sousoke got to show the new kid Darres the ropes he was stuck with, from what he had heard, the girlfriend. Natasha then noticing that one of the workmen was putting something in backwards stopped her crazed dancing and ran to yell at him.

Darres was sweating pretty hard. This was hard work. At least according to Sousoke he was a natural at it. Still Darres was sure that the next round might kill him. Sousoke had beaten him six times with Darres only winning the one time that Sousoke was to busy drinking to really have been fighting. So that had not really counted. Darres had been upset about that bit. He had really wanted to beat Sousoke, but according to many of the other pilots they had trouble doing that so they did not expect him, on his first day to go very far.
Darres stepped back inside the M9. He was going to run through on of the training courses again. He would need to complete a series of movements and go through obstacles in the appointed amount of time. If Darres did not finish on time, like he had just done, he would half to repeat the process.
“Ready to give up yet, newbie?” Melissa harked on the radio.
“Not yet, I still have to be able to kick Kurtz’s butt at the end of this. I want to make sure I can take him down at least once.” Darres replied. It was part of a bet they had going. If by the end of the day he could at least give Kurtz a good scare then he would get to come up every weekend and become a pilot real fast. If not Darres would have to go to the normal training like every one else. Darres didn’t have time for weeks at a camp and all that other junk. He knew enough about battle tactics; he had not watched all those war movies and anime for no reason.
“No worries, any one can scare that sissy of a man. And besides I hear that girlfriend of yours is quite a trip, after dealing with her all day I doubt Kurtz will be any good.” Melissa howled. Darres was about to point out that Natasha was just his friend at the moment at least, but he didn’t get a chance because Melissa had started the course.
