Just to tell ya this story is based of the anime that has been translated in to English, not the second series.

Song 1: Dreams of You, Return Lone Soldier

Across the plain of despair lone soldiers of justice stand. Their purpose to eliminate any threats to peace and stability. One soldier entangled in a web of thoughts, some of the battle just won, and others of someone he had left behind in Japan. Arm Slaves stood in the wreckage of the just fought battle, M9’s and Shadows scattered everywhere. The young pilot gazed at the ruins of AS’s, he thought to himself as he stared at the wreckages ‘why do we fight these meaningless battles?’

He stared off into the distance as clean up crews began their work, digging through the rubble for survivors, there were none. The pilot sat and waited for his superior officers to give him the orders to leave when a voice came up on the communication link shook him out of his thoughts. “Hey Sousuke, you going to be all right?” A young Blonde pilot gazed at Sousuke, “you seem down.”

The young man by the name of Sousuke Sagara stared at the comm link, “I guess so, are we ready to move out?” He stood in his arm slave, the Arbalest, and turned towards the approaching M9.

“Yea buddy,” Sousuke sighed, regaining his composure he heard the blonde pilots voice again, “yo Sousuke, Kalinin said that we are getting some shore leave, where are you going.”

Sousuke sat in thought, ‘where will I go, I have no family to go back to. The only place I have is the base with Ms. Captain...’ He sighed the a sparkle in his companions voice enlightened him. “You know, while you were sleeping a certain someone called you. I think Kaname misses you.” Sousuke couldn’t help but let a small smile creep up onto his face. ‘That’s good, maybe I will go to Japan for my shore leave, I can catch up at school too. That reminds me, I need to find out how Kalinin pulled off letting me continue my school career even though I don’t actually show up for class.’

Another voice came over the comm link, it was a woman’s voice. “So, Sousuke, you going to Japan to see Chidori?”

“You know Mao, Kurtz, I think that I will go to Japan,” Sousuke smiled and continued to speak, “I have a lot of catching up to do with my fellow students, and seeing Ms. Chidori would make me feel better.” They three walked off the battlefield after receiving orders to return to the Tuatha de Danaan.

When returning to base they were greeted by Lt. Major Kalinin, they landed in the hangar and dismounted their As’s. Kurtz grinned and hit Sousuke on the shoulder, “so Sgt. Major, how's that promotion feel, your getting paid more than I am now.”

Sousuke grinned, “well it does feel good, but I know you could get promoted if you worked a little harder.” Kurtz smirked, the was a major hit to the giant ego of Kurtz Weber, Mao just smiled and grabbed a beer from her pouch.

“You know Weber, if your not polite to Sousuke he can have your court-martialed, seeing that he is your superior officer now.”

Kurtz balled a fist, “hey bitch I’ll let you know Lt. Mao that I can still make you moan and groan for more...” His voice faltered when Mao hit him in the one spot that could bring even the strongest man to his knees, his groin. Mao kneed Kurtz hard enough to cause him to black out, but before he did he mumbled, “bitch,” then fainted.

The young Sgt. Major gazed at his comrade in astonishment, he then looked at Mao, “and will he be alright?”

Mao smiled, “yea, after a couple days of pain.” She grabbed his arm and pulled him to the debriefing room where they met up with Lt. Major Kalinin. They saluted him as he did back. “Sir, Lt. Mao, Sgt. Major Sagara, and Sgt. Weber reporting.”

“At ease,” Kalinin sat down in his chair and instructed the three soldiers to do so as well. “Congratulations on a successful mission, all though the terrorists Kidochi Masamura wasn’t taken into custody we still managed to close down the whispered experimental drug facility.”

Sousuke stood and began to speak, “sir, may I have the floor?”

“You may.”

“We believe that Masamura may have escaped with an unknown AS that we encountered in the base’s hangar. After returning to the hangar for the purpose of securing any intact Arm Slaves the AS we saw earlier was missing.” Sousuke glanced at Lt. Major Kalinin and sat back down.

“That is sad to hear but for now we have no worries.” He turned to the three soldiers, “for now let our investigation squad handle tracking down Masamura. I do have some news for all of you.”

The three soldiers looked at each other then back at Kalinin and spoke in unison, “what is that sir?”

“You will each be granted shore leave in the area of your discretion,” he directed his attention at Sousuke, “I imagine Sgt. Major Sagara, that you wish to be sent to Tokyo and to attend school with Ms. Chidori, am I correct?”

“Yes Lt. Major, I would appreciate it if you could grant me this.” Kalinin smiled and turned back to the monitor.

“Well, I believe that Mithril can grant this, so to the rest of you, please make your decision soon as to not waste any off your off time.” Kurtz jumped for joy and zoomed out of the room, followed by Mao and an unusually happy Sousuke.

Later on that day Sousuke began pacing his things for the trip to Tokyo, “I wonder if Ms. Chidori will be happy to see me, I hope so.” Just then Mao walked in the room will her suitcase which surprised him. “Excuse me Mao but your leaving already.”

She smiled, “well duh Sousuke, I’m coming with you. I wouldn’t mind visiting Tokyo again, it’s a pretty good place to be and I know for a fact that you will need someone to watch you.”

Sousuke was shocked, “watch me... Watch me for what?”

Mao grinned, “well, to make sure that you don’t sleep with Kaname of course.” She patted Sousuke’s shoulder and walked to the hangar. He stood there just in utter disgust of Mao’s comment, he wouldn’t sleep with Kaname, whatever that meant. So he grabbed his things and ran towards the hangar to board the transport helicopter that would take him to Japan.

About six miles away from Tokyo, Mao decided to start a conversation with Sousuke, just to make sure he was ready to go back to a normal life. “So Sousuke, you listen to any good music recently.”

Sousuke looked up at Mao and smiled, “well, after my last experience in Tokyo as a citizen I was exposed to a wide variety of musical talent.” He glanced over and saw Mao with an astonished expression. “On this trip to Tokyo I picked up two Green Day albums and one Offspring album, they are really quite good. I think I really enjoy punk rock, it fits my lifestyle.” Mao smiled at Sousuke, he was becoming a little bit normal, as much as this mercenary could ever get.

“So Sagara, how do you feel about Miss Chidori?” Sousuke jumped a bit when Mao’s question finally sunk in. Sweat began to roll down his face and Mao couldn’t help but notice that the young soldier was blushing. “Well that’s cute, looks like Sagara has a love interest.” She layer back in her chair and smiled, “well maybe you’ll turn out a little normal.”

The rest of the ride was quiet, Mao slept as Sousuke gazed out of the transport helicopter. He surveyed the city of Tokyo below him and grinned thinking of all the times Chidori helped him out, but then the smile faded away as he remembered how violent she was. “I hope she has become a little softer in the time I have been gone,” he mumbled to himself softly. Looking out the window he saw their destination, it was the safe house across the street from Kaname’s apartment.

Mao awoke to Sousuke’s soft mumbling, she observed Sousuke’s body features and sighed. “If only I was Chidori’s age, I could really fall for Sousuke. Oh well...” Sousuke stood up and took Mao’s hand and she smiled, “say Sagara lets get all of our stuff inside before it starts to rain,” she said pointing out that heavy clouds were rolling in.

And so, hours later the two soldiers had finally brought all their things in to the safe house. Mao smiled and dusted herself off as Sousuke grabbed two jackets and a large umbrella and glanced at the clock. “It’s 1400 hours so if I run I will make it to Jindai in thirty minutes.” Mao grinned as Sousuke dashed out the door.

Mao pulled out a can of crab, she threw it into the refrigerator and smiled, “well I better go get a couple of med kits, I’m probably going to be patching up Sousuke until our break ends.” She sighed and left the house locking up behind her. Mao left the building with a little bit of fatigue coming over her.

About twenty minutes later Sousuke had made it to Jindai High School in one piece, he walked in to the facility remembering where everything was. Walking down the deftly quiet halls left Sousuke with a feeling of peace, the quiet was sanctuary for a man who had fought battles ever since early childhood. Finally he made it to the hall way near the office, knowing that Chidori had to pass this way everyday, Kaname being class representative and Vice President of the Student Council.

After sitting in the hallway for a good forty minutes the bell rang. Sousuke looked up from his book, waiting for Chidori to run by. He stared at the crowd but couldn’t spot Kaname, then he saw her. She hadn’t really changed, save for the fact that she no longer had waist long hair. He stood up and walked towards the crowd, he could hear people mentioning his name and talking about his past interruptions.

As he passed some of the students he heard things like, “hey, isn’t that the crazy military guy?”

“Yea i think so, he’s kind of cute huh?”

“Watch out for him, he may blow you up.” He shrugged these comments off and continued to where Kaname was. She was talking with Mizuke, and Kyouko when Sousuke arrived at his destination.

Sousuke marveled at Kaname’s beauty, her hair no longer flowed down to her waist but now halted at the base of her neck. The tips were dyed black which made her stand out a bit more than before. He was about to greet her when, “Mr. Sagara, what brings you to grace us with your presence?”

The principal halted his entry back in to Kaname’s life. Kaname swiftly turned at the mention of Sousuke’s name, hoping that it was him. What she saw was not the scruffy teenage mercenary she fell in love with but a tall gentleman, dressed in simple attire holding two jackets and an umbrella. She thought to herself, ‘there is no way that guy is Sousuke.’ Her doubts were put aside when she saw the man salute the principle, ‘ok, never mind that is him. What the hell is he doing here?’

Kaname approached Sousuke and smiled, “at ease soldier boy.” Sousuke recognized the voice, turning around he was greeted by the warm smile of Miss Kaname Chidori. “So why are you here Sousuke, I would think you would be off fighting some war.”

He glanced into Kaname’s eyes and saw the same brown pools he would gaze into a year ago, “I’m on leave so now I can return to school.”

The principle smiled and patted Sousuke’s shoulder, “well that’s a weird way to say that your healthy now.” Sousuke smiled then turned and focused on Kaname. He gave her a hug causing a big blush the creep on Kaname’s face. ‘What happened to him, he... He is so much more than he used to be... Does he really like me or something, well I hope so...’ The moment of bliss was ended when she heard Mizuke laughing.

Kaname balled a fists and leapt over to Mizuke, grabbing her collar she held her fist above her head, “what the hell is so funny?”

Mizuke grinned, “never thought a complete stranger would fall for you so fast Kaname.” Kaname let go of Mizuke, the young blonde girl quickly dusted herself off and glanced at Sousuke from head to toe. “He is cute, I’ll give you that Kaname.”

She grinned and spoke to Mizuke, “I bet that you don’t know who that is?” Mizuke shook her head, “that is Sousuke Sagara, remember he kissed you in the park on that fake date a while back.”

Mizuke tapped her head in thought but drew up a blank, suddenly a crack pf thunder sent everyone to their feet, all with the exception of Sousuke. He tapped Kaname on the shoulder and smiled while handing her the jacket and umbrella. “I came her so you wouldn’t get wet, a girl in a wet t-shirt is very appealing to perverted males.” She frowned and grabbed her fan, swiftly she struck Sousuke strait in the head.

“It was nice of you to bring these but you still haven’t learned to shut up while you’re ahead.” She put on the jacket and opened the umbrella. Kaname grabbed Sousuke’s arm and pulled him along. A little later as they closed in on their apartment structure she blushed, “hey Sousuke, do you have a girlfriend yet.”

Sousuke stared at Kaname, “no but I know some that I wouldn’t mind being my girlfriend.” He smiled as they continued to walk down the street, arm in arm. Kaname couldn’t distinguish if that was a good thing or not, but she was still happy because trigger happy Sagara was back.

Closing~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So if you read my other incomplete FMP story you will notice that a lot more work went into this one. I think I rushed the other one a bit, so this one will go by a little slower. I hope this one is better.... oh well if its not than you can flame... oh yea if the Characters are out of Character don’t forget that this story is one year later, a lot of maturing can go on in that amount of time.

ANOTHER fic writer attempts the 'Sousuke meets up with Kaname on
leave' angle again :-D Hey, go crazy, Reaper. Looking forward to seeing
what you plan to do in future chaps. I'll spare you my usual rant about
grammar -- nothing glaring this time, spelling.... meh! ;)

Best of luck!
