Part 14
Darres sat in his cockpit while others walked around the hanger. They still had about an hour to go before the mission would start. Darres was not able to talk to the others so he had decided to sit in his AS. Darres sat there for what seemed like hours but when he checked his watch it had only been three minutes. Darres watched on his screen as Kaname came into the hanger and mercilessly beat Sousoke. It was just enough to bring a faint smile to his face.
*
Kaname was angry and she was going to crack skulls for it. First they drag he on to the sub and don’t tell her why. Then they kept her under lock and key. Now they expect her to get in one of those stupid machines and risk her life, for a mission they wont explain to her.
“You have really out done your self this time Sousoke!” Kaname raged. Kurtz was trying to stop her from hitting him but got caught in the crossfire.
“Look, Kaname it’s not his fault. You are the only whispered on board that we can use. The captain needs to be in charge of things so she can’t do it. And Natasha…” Kurtz cut himself off and looked at the ground.
“What about Natasha?” Kaname asked sensing that something was up.
“She is one of the people we have to rescue along with that young boy that lives with Darres. If Natasha was here she would be able to copilot the AS than we wouldn’t have to have this operation. You are the only one that can help.” Sousoke said in a very mature voice. Kaname did not put up much of a fight after that. Although she had no idea what in the world she would have to do. Kaname had a feeling that her whispered state would have a pretty good idea.
Kaname climbed into her cockpit to see if she could understand anything that was in there. The moment that Kaname got in it a video recording came on the screen in both her cockpit and Darres’.
“Hello Kaname, if you are watching this it means that I have been taken and you must pilot the Osiris. You might wonder how I knew that I would be captured. Well that is a story that would take years. But the point is that right now you have to understand how to work this machine. Most of it operates like a normal M9, but that’s where you come in. instead of having a lambda driver it’s a whispered. My aunt designed the machine you are now standing in; all you have to do to operate your part of the system is go into whispered state. The rest should come naturally. Darres has enough natural talent to make the Osiris move just as fast as an M9, but you will make this machine able to defeat even the most powerful weapons on earth.” Natasha chimed in her happy voice that always seemed more like signing than talking.
“Another thing, if you are watching this message it means that Loki has also been taken. I had a feeling he would be a target from very early on. He is a powerful whispered if he was older. If I am correct they will try to age is body in order to allow his body to control his large amount of power. Unfortunately the aging processes with dry him of his abilities. But it does not matter because he is not even one of The Fated.” Natasha here took a deep breath as if reading herself for a long speech.
“About a year ago I finally gained access to the inner vaults in the Vatican. It had taken me years of hard work to earn that pass. That is where I found the documents on The Fated. Knowing the importance I altered some of the very important information. I am telling you this so that you, Kaname, and Tessa are sure to stay safe no matter what. Because I believe that the two of you may be the other Fated. I cannot be positive so this information should be kept as secret as possible.” The Overhead speaker cut off Natasha’s voice.
“Ladies and Gentlemen we have ten minutes till deployment. Please prepare for final arrangements.” And then it was gone. Darres shut off the message that was playing.
“We can watch this later Kaname. We need to get ready to go.” Darres said trying to hold back whatever was welling up inside him.
“Sure thing Darres. And Darres.” Kaname started.
“Yes Kaname?” Darres asked.
“You don’t need to worry. We are going to get both of them back. Sousoke and I have seen worse situations and come out just fine.” Kaname reassured.
“Thanks Kaname.” Darres said putting in the final codes to make the Osiris run properly.
*
It had started to rain. Darres was sure that it was some kind of weird thing that happened. Why did it always rain when there was a fight like this? Darres stood in front of Angelo’s AS. The others were trying to penetrate the defenses on other parts of the grounds. But Darres was stuck facing off against the one person he hated most in the world.
It had been a long hard trek through the mud of the forest. The forest had been extremely dense that they had had to cut down many to get the AS through. When the group of AS’s had reached the ground they had been separated by a well-timed counter attack. Which had meant that He knew they were here. Darres had headed for a back entrance that he remembered coming to once and that was how he had reached his present situation. How Angelo had learned to pilot an AS was beyond him.
“So we finally get to see who really is the better of the two of us.” Angelo sneered.
“Look you crazy person I don’t really know what you are thinking but I have always been better than you.” Darres responded. A screen was coming up on his right, Kaname wanted him to defeat Angelo and move on quickly. The rest of the message made little sense, it had something to do with the hand of death.
“You better than me? Never, only in fighting. But remember it was my mother and father that took in your sorry ass when we found you on the street. No one wanted you, no one loved you, and so my parents took you in. And you were such a little suck up. Then just when I though I could get you out of my house by finding your dad, you run away. You are a worthless little orphan that will never amount to any…” Angelo was cut off by Darres’ knife slicing off his AS’s left arm. Darres round kicked Angelo’s As to the ground sending him sliding back several meters. Angelo stood back up. “Lets finish this now.”
*
Sousoke and the others were being met with just as much resistance.
“What in the world is this thing?” Kurtz said taking another lash at the barrier.
“It appears to be some kind of force field or possibly a energy shield of some kind.” Sousoke replied reading the stats on the Arbalest. “It seems that the generators are on the inside.”
“That means that we need some one inside it to turn it off.” Melissa said as she pulled her knife out of the lifeless Savage. “Any one got any good ideas?”
*Loki didn’t look up at where he was going. He knew that he needed to remember how to get back but listening to Natasha was taking all of his concentration. She was instructing him on how to escape. They were “disposing” of him, turned out that Loki had no real powers at all.
“Just try as hard as you can to damage the shield generators.” Natasha said for the third time that minute
“But, isn’t that going to hurt you?” Loki knew that the generators were being run off Natasha’s power alone.
“It might, but us getting out of here alive is more important. I can handle a little pain.” Natasha stopped. “You’re coming up to a generator on the next turn. I think that they are taking you toward the exit. I don’t know the whole plan. But you have to damage the generator.” Natasha screamed the lasted words as though she was being pulled out of concentration and into pain.
Loki looked up from his gaze at the floor. The henchmen that were escorting him were easily ten times his size. But they looked slow. Loki waited watching the wall for the left turn to appear. Get ready to run, he told him self as the corner closed in on him. Before any of the men could notice the boy at dashed away from them down another hall. He was still chained a cuffed so he would move slower, but none of them were real runners. That was except for their leader who had been at track star and he was the one who gave chase.
