Full Metal Panic: Long Road

Disclaimer: I own nothing involving Full Metal Panic, except the DVD’s I bought ^_^, so anyway yeah. Read the story and I hope you enjoy.

Legend thingy: Italic text is thoughts, or memories.

“How would you feel is death came knocking on your door? If you sat in the darkness with no idea of what could happen to you. How would you react if your best friends, family, lover turned up dead?”

Through the pounding rain and the howling winds a series of M9s fought their way through the hordes of RK-92s. Shells cluttered the ground; the odor of fresh blood was hanging in the air. A fierce battle was being waged in gloomy tundra. Fresh powders of snow fell, covering the offspring of the ensuing battle.

“Can you even imagine how those men and women’s families must feel hearing that you killed their loved one? Can you feel all that great about yourself knowing that you have taken a human’s life? Well...”

Cannons fired across the frozen plains, through the dense forest. The M9s had reached their destination, a small airstrip. Their mission was to destroy all the planes and locate a few biological agents, and then confiscate them. One M9 began to systematically eliminate the new Sukhoi S-37 fighter panes. Another M9 knelt down as the pilot exited the mechanical beast. He ran through the small air base frantically searching for the biological agents, time was running out.

“What if your enemy came and killed me? How would you feel then? Would you be sad for losing me? Or would you just brush it of and go with her?”

Out in the distance a white arm slave sat along the frigid caps of the near by mountains, locked in a fierce battle with a red arm slave. The giant mecha bounced from side to side as massive explosions shocked the mountain caps. The red AS fired a shock cannon in the direction of the white AS, nearly missing every shot. A wave of blue energy engulfed the white AS; resulting forces began to pick up the surrounding snow in a whirlwind, blurring the vision of the opposing AS.

“How long have you caused me so much torment? Why can’t you just leave me alone? How come they sent such a moody, military maniac to guard me anyways? Couldn’t they at least have gotten me someone normal?”

The surge of energy exploded outwards, sending a shockwave that destroyed many of the remaining RK-92s. “How much time has elapsed since the battle began AL?”

“About seven minutes Sgt.”

“Damn!” Said the pilot of the white AS. “How much damage has Arbalest received since the beginning of the battle?” Emerging from the powdery snow, the white AS began to survey the surroundings to find any signs of the enemies’ survival.

A mono toned voice rang through out the chilly cockpit, “minimal damages to Arbalest. No chances of operation corruption.” Arbalest stood triumphantly above the shards of the enemy, “all enemies have been terminated. Urzu 2 it currently retrieving the biological agents, all mission parameters have been met. What command line will we follow now Sgt. Sagara?”

“Open up all communications channels with the other SRT members. Start the ECS, running in mode 3, heavy snow. This new ECS should prove useful.”

“Roger Sgt.” Snow continued to fall from the heavens above as the white arm slave silently withdrew into the shadows from whence it came. Disappearing in to the night, the mission was over.

“How long will I be waiting for you Sousuke? It’s frustrating to think that you may not come back, to think that Jindai will lose their very own Sgt. Destruction. Depressing to think that I could lose you...”

Chapter 1: Alone!...

“Again I am alone, but who am I you ask. I am Sergeant Sousuke Sagara of Mithril. My abilities in Military related activities are that of a specialist. I can not say that much of my abilities as a normal person. Contrary to piloting an Arm Slave through dangerous enemy territories, the fields of Japan’s teen culture leave me defeated.”

“ Around one year ago I was assigned to Tokyo to guard a whispered candidate, Kaname Chidori. She is very well rounded in all fields, the exception being military. Although she did not know of her abilities she was a very smart girl, and very athletic, of course I had many chances to experience her natural talents first hand.”

“As that is the past I shall refer to the present. I have just returned from a mission and am now assigned to see a young woman by the name of Chisato Fukigawa. Her father is well know in the world of Arm Slaves, he is the designer of the new M12s. He is also a whispered, but only a few agencies know of this detail.”

A young girl was standing outside of a military themed store, she seemed to be waiting for some one. Her light purple hair bounced as she looked from side to side, he uniform hugged her model form. Light pink eyes surveyed the surroundings, she was leaning against the wall when she spotted a few of her friends. Walking down the crowded sidewalk, the young girl waved to her friends. Running across the street, she met up with her friends. “Hey have any of you seen Sousuke, he was suppose to meet me here after school.”

“Why would you want to meet up with that maniac?” Shot a fiery blue haired girl.

“For a date.” The young girl smiled and pranced around her friends happily.

“A... a... A date!?” shouted the blue haired girl.

The group of girls suddenly grew curious of the blue haired girl’s sudden reaction to “date.” “Yes Kaname! Sousuke finally agreed to go out with me, why?” With a flip of her wrist the girl’s fingers slid through her hair smoothly. She continued to prance around her friends in her joyous mood. “I hope we get to kiss! I can’t believe he said yes, oooo wait till the whole school finds out!”

Kaname clenched her fist and spat out, “that might not be such a good thing you know Chisato!” She glared at the girl who had stolen “her” prize.

Sending a plastic grin in Kaname’s direction, Chisato spoke softly. “You know, it won’t be such a bad thing. Sousuke is dependable, honest, smart, doesn’t take crap from anyone, and best of all,” Chisato blushed, “he is so dreamy!”

Kyouko sighed as she saw the crushing Chisato and the jealous Kaname, who would obviously deny that she is jealous. Placing her hand on Chisato’s shoulder, she smiled, “sorry, we haven’t seen him today.”

Suddenly a strong burst of wind swept the girl’s off their feet. A pair of strong arms gripped both Kaname and Chisato. Both girls blushed when they saw their savior. Sousuke just stood there holding both girls tightly in his arms, hoping that Kaname hadn’t found out about his date with Chisato. “Chidori. Fukigawa. How are you two? You should seriously be more careful in strong winds.”

“Err... Sousuke! I am fine, but why don’t you just tell me about your little date with Chisato!”

The young soldier swallowed a growing lump in his throat, turning to Chisato then back to Kaname. “*Gulp* Uh....”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“When can we be together, when can these feelings be true? Sousuke... I’m so alone in this place, even though I have friends, you’re the only one who has truly helped me. I owe you my life, and I would gladly share mine with you... If you would just let me.”
Kaname sat in wonderment at the thoughts she was having.
“Ridiculous, how could I have feelings for that jerk?”
‘Very easily...’
“But why do I want him?”
‘Because he wants you!’
“No he doesn’t! Does he?”
‘Yes, he does, and everyone knows it except you Kaname Chidori!’
“But I’ve been so mean to him, how could I ever expect him to return my feelings? Sousuke has seen things more horrible than I could every imagine.”
‘So be open to him.’
“Ok...”
Kaname Chidori, age 17. Over the past year she had been exposed to a world that she could have never dreamed of, even in her wildest dreams. She had met Sousuke, gotten into loads of trouble, and even witnessed many Arm Slave battles. Together, Sousuke and Kaname had pulled through the worst of situations. Together they had escaped the clutches of Gauron, and together they had found each other. “I guess that wasn’t good enough for him.”
In a pessimistic sort of mood, Kaname Chidori locked her self in her apartment. She couldn’t handle the fact that Sousuke was out with another girl. “Looks like both Tessa and I lose.” At least she hadn’t lost to Tessa.
“I wonder how Tessa will react after hearing about this little situation.”
She would probably go hysterical, maybe the shock of losing Sagara to some other girl would cause her to go comatose. Kaname giggled. “But maybe I didn’t lose just yet.” Kaname reasoned that if Sousuke were to go out with any girl, then it had something to do with Mithril. He must be on another one of his missions.
“But what if he isn’t?”
That thought had hit Kaname hard. Was it possible that Sousuke was indeed interested in Chisato, for reasons other than military purposes. “No way, that guy is too military. There is no way on Earth that he would be interested in anyone outside of his mission.”
“But what does that say for me?”
Maybe the circumstances of the current situation had gotten to Kaname, or maybe she had just grown jealous of Chisato over the past few hours.
“I’m the one always waiting for him, and then she came along and snatched him up for herself.”
‘But maybe she honestly likes him.’
“Not you again, why can’t you leave me alone?”
‘Because you need help Kaname dear. Your losing yourself over Sousuke, you should go and fight for him if you care about him so much.’
“I know! But it isn’t that simple, I mean Tessa and Chisato, and...”
‘NO!! You’re doing exactly what you shouldn’t! Your defeating yourself before even taking a chance.’
“What do I do if he doesn’t have feelings for me?”
‘Then move on...’
Playing with her blue locks, Kaname wondered how she could fight for Sousuke. What worried her even more was how she could possible let go of someone who had risked his life for her countless times. Someone who no man could ever hope to be. After thinking long and hard about her situation, Kaname decided to rush out and find Sousuke.
“I’ll fight for him, slowly but surely, I’ll win him and we can be together.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Far across town Sousuke was walking with Chisato towards a large estate. After a brief conversation with the guard at the front gate, and a minor inspection, Sousuke was allowed to enter the building perimeter. Slowly the two walked towards the house, along the way the chatted about the world power, military trade, and other military related topics.

“Your knowledge of the modern militaries are commendable Chisato, how did you ever gain so much knowledge regarding the military?” Sousuke was very curious, he had never met an individual so well adverse in military protocol, tactics, and technology.

Chisato smiled and thought, bingo! “Well my father does work for the UN so when we talk he usually refers to his job. A lot of the boys my daddy has tried to get me to date have been military personal, there was this cute AS pilot from the US. Most of them lack key elements, and you have all those tings they were missing.” She grinned when Sousuke began to blush, “a boy so well mannered, and militaristic should fit in just right with daddy.”

“Thank you Miss Fukigawa, but this is no time for romantic fantasies. I have a job to do, and your father is involved with this job. Because you are a civilian I can not inform you of the details of my mission.” They halted in front of the door. Chisato gave Sousuke a stern look, she didn’t seem to pleased with Sousuke’s response. The young man didn’t seem to pleased with the mission objectives either. The fact that he needed to date this girl to get to the father was questionable.

Fixing her hair, Chisato knocked on the door. “Now remember Sousuke, just act normal. Some military talk will be fine, not to much though.”

“Roger.” Sousuke sent Chisato a firm salute, causing her to sigh. Heavy footsteps could be heard approaching the oak door. The door slowly creaked open, at the entrance a large man could be seen holding a Model 18 pistol. Out of pure instinct Sousuke lunged at the armed man, quickly retrieving the pistol and grasping the man by the wrist. He flipped over tossing the man out onto the lawn, whipping out his own pistol in the process. In seconds Sousuke had his pistol secured under the defeated man’s chin.

Chisato jumped over and grasped Sousuke’s left arm, trying to pull him off the man. “Sousuke stop! That’s daddy.”

“This is your father?” Chisato nodded in response to Sousuke’s question. He released the man from his grip and quickly hid his pistol under his clothing. Grabbing the man’s hand, Sousuke helped Chisato’s father up. Dusting off the large man Sousuke said, “I am sorry for the discomfort I have caused you, I merely acted as I thought I should have. You were armed and I assumed that you intended to harm Chisato or myself.”

Sliding his rugged fingers through his purple hair, Chisato’s father nodded. “It is quite acceptable young man. I assume your the Urzu 7, your skills are just as they say. You are quite the fireball.” The burly man turned towards his daughter, “after your last boyfriend I thought you would never go for a military boy again.”

“This one’s different daddy!”

Her father laughed as he rubbed the back his head, “more than you think honey.” Turning back to Sousuke he smiled and offered him his hand. “Since I already know who you are I guess I should introduce myself.”

“Negative sir, I am well aware of your name, rank, and qualifications.”

The large man chuckled at Sousuke’s quick response. “Well, I can see your well informed. While in my presence your can use my name, no need for any formalities Sagara.” Next to the two men, Chisato stood dumbfounded. She couldn’t conceive how these two men could know each other.

Sousuke stood at attention, “ roger. From this point on I shall refer to you as Murai.”

Murai beamed, “come in then, we’ll discuss the M12 inside where no one can hear us.” Glaring at Chisato, he spoke seriously, “Chisato, I’m going to need to borrow Sousuke for a little bit, you can have him again in a little while.”

His daughter just stood there, astonished, “ok... I guess...”

Like the story...I swear I've seen this somewhere before...:think:

Nonetheless...I like it. I want to see where this goes. Sousuke seems slightly toned down, and the reasons for his reassignment seem real vague. Good start, and I'd like to see some elucidation. One small objection...

The UN is toothless. Methods of warfare are foreign to them. They're nothing combat wise. Peacekeeping they have problems with corruption, and their general order of battle (if you could call it that) sucks. Military=Not UN. The UN is pretty impotent. People with military experience and good tactics would be pretty rare there. In the interests of your story...it doesn't matter.

Anyone hear of the email tax they want to levy upon everybody? How about the global taxes. Friggin ridiculous.

Well, technically, in this story Murai is a Mithril agent. That's how Sousuke knows so much about him.
