No the C-5A/B is named the Galaxy. The Glomar Explorer is a ship. I think its purpose has to do with something with underwater salvage, right?

BTW the Su-35, S-37 and Su-37 have no counterparts in the West. Just like to point that out.

Katyusha wrote:True, Glomar Explorer *IS* one helluva monster, but at least they didn't bother building a plane that could carry over 1 million pounds of cargo.

The Glomar Explorer, politics aside, was to salvage a Golf off the
Pacific Ocean, and provide similar capability to sunken US subs.

And yeah, the Su-35, S-37, and Su-37 have no direct equivalent.
The closest is probably the F-22 -- TVC and phased array radar --
but God knows when that thing'll be put into service. BTW,
flight-testing NOT = in service, IMO.

On a good day, a Tomahawk can fly into the door of a two-car garage at the distance of several hundred miles. And that can ruin your whole day.

No, the AN-225. The thing can carry 1 MILLION lbs. of cargo! It's considered the biggest thing man has ever managed to get to fly.
Remember kids, trying to start Armageddon is dangerous. Do not try it at home.

Just checked, the C-5 can only do just under 1/3 of the An-225. Yikes!

2. The 3rd was never finished. The thing can carry 80 vehicles inside. Tha NATO codename was "Cossack", the Russian designation was "Myria" (dream). They were built to carry the Russian space shuttle around.

'Dream' huh? The Russian sense of irony, perhaps :)

2? Man thats must have set back the Russians a pretty penny.

BTW for those who don't know, the Russians use to have a space shuttle called the Buran. Forgot why they cancelled it though.

Let's just say that "Overkill" is a Russian tradition. They have a need for the biggest or fastest everything. Just look at the Typhoon! And of course, the "Shkval" rocket torpedo. The thing travels 200 knots...

@dangman
They canceled it 'cuz they thought building and operating a direct copy
of the US space shuttle was too much, so focused their efforts in space
vehicles elsewhere. They did, however, do a launch and recovery
under entirely automatic operation of Buran before canceling it.

@Katyusha
I really gotta install Sub Command and fire one of those Shkval's and
see what they're like. :-D

Goody, another Sub-Command player. I prefer the 688(i) over Seawolf though.... I dunno why. Well, time to play Destroyer Command again, and sink those poor fools who play Silent Hunter II.

...not QUITE a SC player. I installed it once, but got this stupid refresh
rate problem that kept blurring all the screens 2secs after they loaded it.
After fixing that, I took a quick test spin, but trying out the 'fire your
torps' trainer, the torps wouldn't fire.... :think:

You *DID* set targets to your torpedoes, flooded the tubes, and opened the muzzle doors right? You have to click on "Fire" twice before it actually fires. Wire-guiding can be a head-ache though.... and leaving the torps to their own devices isn't a good idea (I once killed myself when my ADCAP somehow managed to locate *ME* as a target!

Did everything the trainer said to do, so no reason it should not fire...
Went back and did everything again, and the 'FIRE' button still didn't
light up. I did try snapshot mode... // learn // shoot at target relative
to it's bearing to you, NOT your bow...
Katyusha wrote:I once killed myself when my ADCAP somehow managed to locate *ME* as a target!
New meaning to the phrase 'shot yourself in the foot'...
