Question About FMP season 2

Post by Gabb »

Some spoilers for the FMP story *after* the anime

In the past thread - page 2- interesting facts about the novel, ruri summarized a lot of what happens afterwords in the manga. Is FMP season 2 going to be about this? or be some alternate situation or something. It's hard to believe my inspiration Tessa could threaten Chidoris life? I took the interpretation from Ruris explanation that Tessa ment to take Sousake ( spelled his name wrong, always forget it ) away from Chidori by reassigning him to something else instead of killing her? Anyway thanks for the replies in advance, I know the thread was so old, nov 2002 actually :P I recently got back into FMP to discover to disappointment of it not comming out for quite a bit longer.

Well, this is why I let alot of old threads hang around- there's some interesting info in them if you can bear to read them
The way FMP was first created was unique IMO, and is possibly important for fans to understand because it appears likely that the anime might follow a similar formula.

no spoilers here, but loooong

This is what we know- about how FMP was first created.
It was short stories that ran every month in Dragon (fantasy) Magazine, whatever the hell you want to call it.

These stories were (mostly but not always) one-shot chapters, episodic, mostly involving the silly, outragous things that happen when you get a concentraction of really weird people together.
(namely, Sousuke, Kaname, and other assorted freaks)

They are mostly gag/funny stories, alot like the silly stories that have been in the early manga chapters (as running in Newtype usa).
A lot of silly action, a lot of goofy 'bad guys', and alot of misunderstandings. (Sousuke trying to fit into school, Kaname trying to like/not like him...ect)
These short stories were published in collected volumes.
Think of the comedy bits and episodes from the first season and you have the idea.
Not a ton of character development or major plot stuff.

That stuff was really saved for the full-length novels. These went straight to book form (AFAIK), contains some illustrations (like the short stories), but is where the serious action is. The first anime season is based the first couple of these volumes. It's also these books that Ruri is talking about in those posts. If that stuff gets animated, the soonest we could really expect to see it would be in a third season (if there is one, and maybe not then either).

These two series of books run concurrently in a sense- not fully connected, but, I guess it would be fair to suggest that the funny short stories happen whenever they aren't involved in the major story arcs in the full novels.
Just different sides of the whole picture, but loosely connected too.

The feature articles and info that has been released about the second season strongly appears to be based on events in the short stories.
Perhaps you have seen the *cough* yellow bear thing (bonta-kun)?
That thing is from the short stories. The articles say this 2nd season will be more comedy, light-hearted, and they will be introducing new characters that are at the high school. Contrast with how they promoted the first season of FMP- it was shown to be darker, a military action with sci-fi twist.

It's entirely possible that they will do more in the second season than we expect. But the show isn't being promoted that way.

If this helps- I think of all of FMP being divided into 2 parts-
Tokyo-side and Mithril-side.
Season 1 was mostly Mithril-side. Season 2 looks like Tokyo-side.
We will meet new Tokyo-side characters, and the Mithril characters might play only minor roles, if we see much of them at all.
(it's hinted we won't see much of Tessa overall, but that she might make a special showing ;) )
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

Eh yeah sorry about that forgetting to post spoilers thing :P I am very dissapointed to hear of the lack of tessa in 2nd season. I know its more of a comedy season but Tessa is a huge part of FMP :P So much better then Chidori in that shes not a typical angry/mood swings/easily hurt teenage girl, and can control her maturity...sometimes :P

eeeuh...well, you'll get some debate on that issue :-D

When the girls are in the story together, they play off of each other well.
But, the story overall really is about Kaname as much as it is about Sousuke.
The manga version is mostly Kaname's POV, for example.

But, like it's been suggested, Tessa will probably have a good role (if not as much airtime) in the second season ;)

As for the stuff you mentioned about ruri's posts-
Spoilers- after anime
I'm not sure ruri meant to give the impression that what you said was Tessa's goal. She was willing to take the risk though, in reassigning Sousuke. Check out some of the other threads (if you haven't already) for all sorts of Kaname VS Tessa debating :)
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.
