[Novels] Nayande Rarenai Happou Fusagari?

Post by Pyrite »

New compilation of short stories, according to kj1980 of Animesuki.
http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=31999

1.) Released after COMO ( :-o )
2.) Probably not chronologically after COMO ( :? )
3.) Cover is that of Kaze's postcard (see other thread)

So BOMF isn't compiled yet, probably.

Trust Hayashimizu for that kind of business. He's connected everywhere, too clever. The possibilities when he grows up, he amasses his fortune in the game through trading. So when he gets out of school, he can become the leader of a yakuza and the rift between him and Ren wouldn't matter anymore... So Yoko the policewoman is playing an online game where people can imprison other virtual alter egos. Aizou no Festival should be interesting...

The only problem with Hayashimizu marrying Ren and taking over the Mikihara-gumi would be that it'd become the Hayashimizu-gumi....

Still, he'd be the nicest Yakuza leader ever.

Not really new- I scanned it after getting it and the file dates are from early August. As far as I'm aware, the short stories have never been connectable to the same timeline- publication dates are irrelevant to the novel timeline. In theory, Gatou could keep screwing around with whichever chars he wants, whenever, regardless of how the long story turns out :)

BMOF isn't released yet, but it's something I'm keeping an eye open for. I'm not sure when to expect it (jan?), because it is finished but they do seem to like to keep some months between book releases.

Well, I just noticed the (2005-07-25) date there, so... :wall:

And yeah, I know it shouldn't really be chronologically continuous.

Really? Hmm... They fit in there somewhere because the long story does occasionally make references to them, but there's no indication exactly where?

I suppose it doesn't matter. I'm just the kinda guy who would wonder about something so trivial.

ADV released the FMP anime mission book, and in the interview with Gatou he explains that he had never really thought of the long and short stories as being a singular entity before GONZO started on the anime.

In the pre-production, he was initally opposed to the idea of combining the two and didn't understand the value of the short stories until after.

In the discussion about how the two story types are totally different he says, "The fact that the novels and the short stories were acutally influenced by each other was something I realized only after the fact. I guess all I can say is that it's tough to have one without the other."
I think that suggests that he doesn't write either type to be consistent with the other.

And I don't exactly recall where I read this, but waay back during the run of the initial anime series, I read that if someone were to try to place the various short stories into the long plot timeline, they'd run into some illogical situations- written by someone who was reading FMP but no examples were given. I don't know if that's acutally true, though. I would be interested in seeing someone with the abilities to give this project a try :-D

That would be interesting.

If Gatoh didn't want them mixed, than he must have been really pleased with FUMOFFU, and sources say that he was, or was with Kyoto Animation's handling of it.

Well, the people working on the first series changed his mind on it.
Initally, he didn't see how to blend the two in an anime, in part becasue the types of violence are on totally different levels. He didn't understand how it could be negoitated- ie pull off having Sousuke blow up half the school in one ep, but play up exploding buildings very seriously in the next ep.

But he said it acutally worked out very well and that he developed a new appreciation for the short stories and that the day-to-day life is as important as his big major plot.

I would be more interested in his opinion of TSR seeing what he said about the first series... I guess I find it interesting that he says that, and then the next 2 series aren't really blended.

Well, I can agree with that. I've said before that there are two Sousuke's. The one from the novels and the one from the short stories aren't quite the same. The Sousuke from ODBD would never have been like the Sousuke in the last episode of Fumoffu. That Sousuke didn't seem to care that everyone in the class, including Kaname, was about to die. But it was a gag, so... you can't take it too seriously.

But that's never stopped me from trying to find a way to make sense of all of it and tie it all together anyway. :-P

In any case, Gatou did eventually tie the two together since he makes a reference to the Miss Jindai contest in COMO. And he's obviously not continuing the school life story while Kaname's kidnapped. He said something about skipping Valentine's day and some other events and that it's not unrelated to the main story. I wonder what he meant by that.

I agree, the 'real' Sousuke would have just given Kaname the vaccine in Fumoffu 11... no question.

We need to compare that episode to the novel version of it in order to see any "differences" with Sousuke.

Well, I've also wondered about that myself, since we're not given any internalization in the anime. Maybe he knew all along that it wasn't deadly. I couldn't understand why else he'd tell Kaname to take off her clothes before he knew what the effect would be.

...Well, I can think of one reason he'd tell her to take off her clothes, but this IS Sousuke we're talking about. :-P

Ah. But I don't see that (the references) as incompatible with the position that the short stories and long plot aren't strictly aligned.

I guess the difference may be of degree- is everything written in a way that suggests Gatou is working off a detailed and planned timeline, or is he skating on whim and using elements from one to enhance the other? Or some middle ground? Some stories may be placed, but do other ones lack clues as to where placement is relative to anything else? Publishing dates are unreliable, and then there are the altera-world stories like the cinderella one :-D

I don't think he's following any rules with the short stories, except perhaps to not overly violate the long plot with anything that can't be mistaken, retracted, or forgotten about.

I'd say that's about right.

However...

That is STILL a triple negative! :-P
