Are you sure you can't turn octopus into a sausage? I mean, you can turn almost anything into a sausage... I've seen the words "octopus sausage" used before, but the thought that it might just be a regular sausage with a decorative cut never crossed my mind.
Gunner: Come on, with the main homoerotic plot in this short story, coupled to Sousuke's obsession with a sausage and Issei's nefarious deeds with 90-year-old women... how can you not psychoanalyse it? Honestly...

Heh, octopus cut hotdogs are really common in anime/manga bento. I've seen them countless times...usually in school setting series. Here are some links that are somehow both fun and relevant!

So it's just your regular sausage... I am so disappointed. But why would Kaname and Sousuke wonder how it would taste, and with the words, "it's made of octopus...", if it wasn't made of octopus? Unless it's something along the lines of, "it's shaped like an octopus", which still makes less culinary sense for them to be wondering about its taste.
EDIT: Or am I reading things wrongly? Maybe...
-...Kaname's the one wondering how Mizuki could cook (probable, since I didn't know who the line was attributed to)...
-...leaving Sousuke the only one wondering how the octopus sausage tasted (probable)...
-...which means that the misconception that the octopus sausage was actually made of octopus is solely Sousuke's (and mine), a much more likely outcome. The use of "unanimously" threw me off.

I honestly don't know what the sausage in the story is, but those things are pretty much always just some regular hot dog/sausage thing. I have no idea why Kaname would wonder about it, unless it's like you said - 'Mizuki's cooking??'
Sousuke, on the other hand, doesn't have a lifetime experience with japanese food, so I wouldn't be surprised at him acting like a bit like a eager kid who's seen something that looks neat to eat....not knowing exactly what it is. (and eating it off the floor, and then being disappointed with it)
I can't imagine octopus in a sausage, but my imagination is pretty poor with food
It seems like a wasteful way to eat it... but there are alot of creative food items in Japan.
Thanks for the story BT!!

They make an appliance that cuts weenies into octopus-es
Just when I thought I had seen it all.
Someone far wiser than I has to provide a link to something like that.
Thank you Jae for sharing the info!
