Every educated person knows that companies like GONZO work on a suppy and demand basis...If Full Metal Panic DVD's and Mangas are sellin right as they hit the shelves the companies look into the possiblities of making more money through a sequel... this is how TSR came about. But a year after TSR hit the stores is the demand still high enough for another sequel? what do we need to do to make sure it doesnt die out before its time.

I was thinkin that maybe a huge online list of people who believe the series should go on and would "buy" (i know fansubs are tempting) the new merchandise from local stores could have a effect if sent to the right people. I'll take any other ideas my fellow FMP lovers can offer though.

Yes, the laws of supply and demand are at work here, and yes, possibly
FMP merchandise is flying off the shelves fast enough in Japan to warrant
another sequel. Two problems 1) is it flying off the shelves fast enough
that all parties interested (ie Gatou, GONZO, et al) are willing to invest
in the risk that their investment won't pay off; worst case scenario bomb.
Risk is always part of the equation, and all parties have to be willing to
risk it all for another FMP to see the light of day.

2) What kind of competition would another FMP face right now in the
(probably already) saturated market? FMP's probably got brand
recognition, but if it's facing stiff competition from other titles, it may as
well have been never made. You've probably heard of the Summer
Blockbuster phenomenon: basically all the studios shoot for that timeblock
to release titles, but if there's alot of heavy hitters, its again a case that
you could put out a good title, but competiton's so stiff you lose anyways,
no matter how much you win.

If there was an online petition for another FMP, I'd probably be in the line
to sign in, but having been around money manager / marketing types
before, you're gonna have to convince them first it's worth the risk,
and the metaphysics of risk v reward in terms of yen or dollars is a discussion
no one can win. Or as a wise man said: Ye pays yer money and yous
takes your chances.

additionaly, they are focusing on the japanese market. international sales figures aren't that important.
just what I think. maybe I'm totally wrong...however I'm pretty sure something will happen in the future

Thats not entirely true...there have been shows made purely for the US/International market before based on there sales...just not many.

What made you bring up this subject? also wasn't kyoto animation the company that made TSR? i'm pretty sure gonzo has nothing to do with FMP seeing that kyoto did a better job with animating the series.

too bad the consumers cant decide the risks for the companies. It just feels like we should be able to do something, but i guess its all out of our reach. thanks for the feedback guys

It would depend on scheduling, cost, and liscencing more than who can do a better job. Better studios cost more and may demand more control over liscencing of artwork for merchandising. Better studios can also be more indemand, which becomes a scheduling concern. If there is a large consumer demand, there is a push to market which may force the liscensor to go with a lesser billed studio to make market. Usually if the schedual is closer on the horizon, the cost of production is also relationally higher. This is the TCS (Time-Cost-Scope) triangle as known in project management. In this case, Scope would be the quality and qualtity of the animation, and Time would be the time-to-market deadline. Also, some studios are picky about the projects they work on (they're genre-driven).

Through out all this, the one driving this is the owner of the original work, and his agency or incorporation. That is the entity which funds the studio (along with private investors), and that entity is the one who chooses the studio and works out an arrangement with them.

So the next series may be infact done by Gonzo, or Kadokawa, or JC-Staff or ............
