I've been watching this show and just finished viewing #9 the other day. While I do quite enjoy it overall, Ergo Proxy's animation has been bothering me for the past... four episodes or so. I realize that usually art is high standard in the first couple episodes of an anime, then drops slightly, and clearly Ergo Proxy is no exception. The problem is, the art was so top notch in the first couple of episodes, that it kinda hurt itself because now average animation just becomes glaringly obvious, and I often find myself distracted by the deteriorated character design and production value. I'm not fully sure what Vincent really looks like, because his facial features keep changing during every scene, and emotion is not the cause. I realize I might be a little anal about this, but its hard not to recall how beautiful and lush the first episode seemed and how psyched I was, compared to the animation now. However, despite this, I'm still avidly watching the show, because compared to many, Ergo Proxy still has decent art, and hell, I enjoy the concept and characters.
I also probably share the same opinion with most of the viewers here when I say that I wish "Lil", "Lir", "Ril", "Lin", "Rel", "Real" (whatever you want to call her--personally I wish an official name was chosen so it wouldn't be so damn confusing or consistent ) would make an appearance again, as we (the viewers), were initially set up to assume she was the main character!
By the way, anyone have any idea how long this series is supposed to run? I don't see the Vincent plotline linking back up with the Romedeau plotline any time soon, as Vince hasn't even reached his intended destination yet anyways.

Alright, I double posted, so I might as well make this second one count, and add some extra thoughts.
So I'm not sure if I like the latest development in Ergo Proxy, with our realization about Vincent. Personally, I was hoping for something more unexpected, and these latest developments, while adding some clarity, almost leave me feeling a little underwhelmed.
Perhaps there is more than meets the eye... in fact, I'm sure there is, and luckily there are many things still left unexplained. That's one of the things I enjoy most about Ergo Proxy; the air of mystery and confusion--feeling like the Vincent and "Lil/Real", unable to fully piece together or understand just what exactly is going on.
Guess the only way to find out, is to watch more. No problem.

@Gunner
My last info said EP's 23 eps, tho I'd take that with a grain of salt
...and I'd agree with you about the drifting animation quality, tho you do have
to consider probably the biggest expenditure when doing animation's at the
beginning to generate hype and interest in the series; after that, it's all
downhill from there, as they say. That's my guess anyways.
What keeps me watching is to see precisely how knowledge about 'Proxy'
has Romdeau so afraid about it being made public... and how this ties in
with the auto-raves' infection with 'Proxy.' Is it a biological agent? Or a
state of mind?
Regards

...after what seemed like an eternity... [ecs]RIL'S STILL ALIVE!!!![/ecs] Though it
seems the doc has her... or should I say HIS own secrets Raul up
to his usual behind-the-scenes powerplays... but he wasn't behind the
murder attempt... riiiiiiiight.
No comments on the quality of the animation this time... I'm just happy
to be able to catch the next ep in this series, much as it leaves me scratching
my head at the end.

Well I can't say much about the drop in quality of the series since for some reason such things escape my atention
But the story is just great and I'm very thankfull for the extra info given at the end of each ep. Otherwise a lot would have gone by without me noticing it.

#14 mindscrew all around as Ril & co. find another abandoned intact city --
somehow I can't believe that it was THAT intact, considering some of the
alternatives shown of life outside a 'Dome' world -- and Vince's 'better half'
comes out to play
There's a game of house I can do without joining, thank you...

Whoa, was I still watching this series? Somehow Vince, Real and
Pino ended up on a gameshow where the prize for winning is the MC's
death-q-q-q-q, and the prize for losing is your death-q-q-q-q. There's some
incentive for ya-q-q-q-q!
Slipped inbetween-q-q-q-q is hints as to what happened before the world
went to hell in a handbasket and what parts the Proxy and Cogito Plans
had in reviving Earth-q-q-q-q, so it's not a total loss.
And yeah, looks like this is a 23ep series
