Well not much known about it .. other then

AD 2300, the human race has advanced to space, and a lot of planetary nations have been founded. Amaterasu is a newly built space battleship of a planetary nation, Kibi. It is operated by apprentice officers of Defense Academy. When it is about to return from the test flight, the Alliance of Henrietta Nations declares war against Kibi. The alliance destroys the battleships of Kibi by its overwhelming military power, and Kibi surrenders to the alliance. However, the apprentice officers in Amaterasu don’t want to surrender without fighting. In order to fight against the alliance, they come up with an idea. They ask Galaxy Network, a galaxy wide TV network, to become their sponsor. In return for receiving money, they let Galaxy Network broadcast their war. Amaterasu and Galaxy Network, being involved various speculations, a solitary war of Amaterasu begins.

Blatant (media) cynicism or...

Well, like they said, it's only the first ep. Some interesting fight scenes
would be nice... Idunno if I can take any more deep political discourse
of the 'us v them' variety

I'm adjusting my point of view a little .. even though the plot still is unlikely, I did like one of the fights in it involving Laser cannons ...

the countermeasures made sense .. and the unfortunate killing of those crewmembers - ZZZZap .. look ma !!!, no beam and gone..
Gave it some of the lacking realism back .. (well in the tech department)

For now it's a keeper.

The first episode turned me off to this series kinda, it all just seemed so cheap.

I think it's pretty cool. They've got good technobabble, and for once they're
actually taking into account actual space conditions. No sound of explosions (the director insists on have them edited into the broadcast to increase the sense of tension for the audience ^_^), battles take place at ranges measured in 100s (if not thousands) of kilometers, and they _don't_ look out the frigging viewports to see the foe! Heck, it even takes hours, if not days to manuever into position, instead of zooming along at ludicrous speed. :-P.

They've even come up with a justification in the plot for all the bridge bunnies- a female bridge crew just makes for better ratings. :-P Admittedly, the premise of a bunch of gung-ho cadets wanting to carry on the fight even after all regular crew, not to mention the government has given up
is a somewhat farfetched, but hey, they're young, patriotic, naive, and of course think they're immortal. It'll be interesting to see how dark the mood
ends up getting, since the Kingdom now has no choice but to take the kids
and their ship seriously. They'll be sending a task force or two after them, not just single ships. I'll keep watching this one.

ANBU's jumped into the game to complete the series... but looks like it
only ran for 13 eps total? That's what the RAWs says... now to
find some way to fingle a day off work to actually watch the series

Yep, short but sweet. Another series based on a book, or books. Makes you wonder what we might have missed. But I like this series, they put some effort into the adaptation, and I like that they took physics a bit more seriously than most SF usually does.
