Law of Ueki

Any1 else watching this series? My synopsis:
There are 100 God-candidates and each candidate chooses a student to grant them 1 power and fight each other. The last-one-standing candidate becomes the next God and his/her fighter is granted any talent. Ueki is a junior high student who's been given the power to turn garbage into trees by his God-candidate. But if their powers are used to hurt civilians, then they lose a talent (running, studying, charm) and when they run out of talents they cease to exist.

It's a light comedy-fighting anime. I could watch an episode right before going to sleep. I've watched up to ep5 and enjoy it so far. I really like the main characters; Ueki sometimes uninterested/clueless to the seriousness of his situation but is always the good at heart and helps others. He's like Luffy without a goal. He's got a sidekick, a normal girl named Mori Ai who follows him around to try keep him out of trouble. Their relationship is like Sousuke and Kaname where Kaname's always trying to keep Sousuke in check. Except no romance (yet?) between the two.

This looks to be not a long series so ep1 jumps right into things. Check it out.

I've watched it until ep5 too and I like it so far.
Hope it won't turn into those "arena tournament fighting" style animes, and it'll keep its light comedy side.

Watched ep8. Still good. More fights now that Ueki's focused. I'm glad they don't over analyze every move, just the important ones and let the action speak for itself. Forgot which episode, but it was funny when an unknown fighter came up to Ueki near the end of the episode to fight him and as he was explaining what he can do, Ueki just bashes his face with a tree. :-D

Nooo, it's licensed already. But Shinsen-Sub has continued subbing licensed anime before so hopefully they'll continue.

Watched ep9 subbed:
Ueki wins his fight against Onimon and Onimon trains him to fight one of Robert's 10. BJ the hiphop guy is back, molests Mori, becomes another sidekick that hangs out with Ueki. Ueki's next fight against Robert's 10's Black Shadow Man begins.
Dunno if this anime will be too long, but looks like it'll be at least 26 episodes. I went ahead and watched the preview for ep13 (at the end of ep12 raw) and it looks like I was wrong about it being short. The VA for Ueki did the voice for Ed (Full Metal Alchemist) and VA for Mori did the voice for Rosette (Chrno Crusade).

This is turning into a lot of fighting. But the jokes are still funny, the opponents/powers are all interesting and creative, the fights don't last too long. I also "accidentally" read some spoilers and they've increased my interests in the series. And of course, the never-shut-up-but-always-so-cute Mori is reason enough for me to keep watching this.

Well, this series is almost over, ep50 will be the last one (I think). English fansubs are at ep39, Mori reveals her powers at ep40, I've been watching Chinese fansubs too which are up to speed at ep47.

The story and characters are all pretty generic, but I still enjoy it all. I like the fights here more than the fights in Bleach. I also think the jokes are funnier in Ueki than Naruto and Bleach.

The coolest thing about this series, is its SUPERSTAR cast. The five heros are all played by VA's of famous roles. Some of the opponents/bad guys are also voiced by famous VA's: Takehito KOYASU (Ilpalazzo, Kuroyanagi), Shuuichi IKEDA (Shanks, Seijuro Hiko), Satsuki YUKINO (Kaname), Shinichiro MIKI (Kruz), Yui HORIE (Eri, Naru). I was able to recognize all their voices when I was watching it (except for Horie's).

And Megumi Hayashibara plays Ueki's mother in a flashback to her middle school days. :-D

ANN for more cast info.

I found it average but not boring to watch, the reason i stopped was as it wasnt licensed and had to use less used sites, each episode took ages to download and i didnt have time on weekends (got ta play CSS ya kno lol)
