Jigoku Shoujo

There is a rumor. There exists a message board called “Jigoku (Hell) Tsushin” where one can access only at midnight. It is said that if one writes his grudge against someone, Jigoku Shojo appears and she takes the person to the Hell. It sounds just like a urban legend, but it is true.

Her name is Emma Ai. Usually, she is a quiet girl, but when she sympathizes with the grudge, she turns into Jikoku Shojo. It isn’t mentioned in the rumor, but it is necessary to contract with her. For sending the target to the Hell, the client’s soul will be also taken to the Hell after his death.
Considering most anime doesn't fall so much into the horror category as
into the mystical, I decided to check this out to see if they'd take the plunge
into doing a TRUE horror....

...I may have just been a case of nerves over exams tomorrow, but
what I've seen so far is looking good. About the only weakness I forsee
is it has the potential to become another Vampire Princess Miyu-type
'person to send to hell' of the week series.

About the only downer on this is the animation was at times alittle TOO
fine / slick... it may have been the video encoding, but the drawings were
alittle too sharp to be natural.

I've got a running list of ppl I'd like to send to hell, but I think the deal works
1 person per soul... NUTS!! I've known a few ppl like the girl in the 1st
ep who were EXACTLY like that  B*TCH!!

Ah man, this is a good anime as far as I can tell. I'm usually a stickler for good animation quality and this is certainly up there. That girl's eyes really creeped me out! :-o I liked how those ghosts/demons tried to show that horrible girl what she did and she still denied everything, no remorse whatsoever. She deserved what she got! Even still though, who would go so far as to sell their soul to get revenge?? Count me out! :-P LOL Anyway, I haven't seen an anime like this in a while, so I'll be looking forward to the rest of the eps.

Spoiler warning
[ecs]I really felt sorry for the girl in ep2... I mean
she had to choose between a
Painfull death then a happy eternity in heaven?
or
Live happily her life then a painfull eternity in hell
from my point of view she accidently ripped of the
thread and was really shocked afterwards.. and in
the end of the ep she looked really sad when looking
at the mark on her chest (whom wouldnt be)

...a rather amusing chance to have Jigoku Shoujo's assistants / associates / take-your-pick
come in for the fun. Yeah, I'd have to agree with ya Zy that this girl
deserves of some sympathy... I can only guess what it's like to be stalked,
much less stalked by someone who basically has no legal restraints on
how he can follow you. But like they say... a deal's a deal.

Sidenote, seems Ayu's fixed that oversharped problem this time... it wasn't
overly painful looking at the edges of the animation. Next time, Japan's
national sport comes under the limelight (again)

Keep it up Ayu!

Has anyone noticed that much of the voice cast from FMP has been popping up in this series? I've been finding it quite amusing. The woman who plays Kazama in FMP plays the title role of the Jigoku Shoujo, while the voice actresses for Melissa Mao and Chidori Kaname have appeared as villains (both their characters went to hell) in 2 separate eps.

Oh? That's captured my interest. The VC that does Ai, Mamiko Noto, is pretty famous. Her voice is easy to recognize, she also did Yakumo (School Rumble) and Rinko (Law of Ueki). In Yakitate Japan, I didn't even recognize Pierrot's VC is Tomokazu Seki (Sousuke) because he used such a higher pitch and faster speech until episode 34 when he talked about his past love, Megumi. I recognize the voice of Megumi to be of Mamiko Noto's voice, so I looked it up on ANN and saw that Seki does Pierrot.

But ya, back to this anime. :) I see ep 1-8 is out on fansubs and another group skipped to ep14? I must hurry up and finish watching all the other stuff I've saved up and start on these currently airing series that I'm interested in.

....same. Shinsen's more normal release schedule than Ayu's has kinda thrown
things into a tizzy... but like I'm complaining?

I just watched the latest episode today ("Sweet Trap"). Anybody wishing they change up this show a bit? I'm starting to get real disaapointed with all the same cut scenes. Can someone not pull the red string, for once?! lol

If they did that, then there wouldn't be much of a story, now would there
Jelli :-D I noted this at the start... that this had the possibility of becoming
another Vampire Princess Miyu. Something I dread seeing... Emma Ai
attending school as normal, while doing her.... main job.

Well, for all the ppl that I've met in my life that were/are like the ppl
that get sent to hell weekly

Well, I watched the first 6 episodes before I read that. And yea, so far it's not bad but the same ol' is getting old.

I am hoping for some variations like:
1) Someone pulls the string before Enma Ai finishes explains the consequence... like a comedy. ^^; Episode 5 came pretty close to it when the girl pulls it without hesitation saying, "This world is already Hell."
2) Someone who DOESN"T pull the string.
3) An episode of the future about a character who pulled the string. See what he/she is doing now and their last moments of life. Will I see how evil ep5 girl gets?
4) Someone who's life still sucks/gets worse after revenge was dealt.
5) A non-revenge day of Enma Ai and Company. :-D

So does this get better or will it be the same for all 26 episodes?

Yes it does get better, you have to pay attention though. I went back and rewatched the earlier episodes after I realized what the point was.

I watched the whole series and I can say, there is a point to the story.

[ecs] The ending is one hell of a tear jerker. Tsugumi ends up being the one that does not pull the string. The point of the earler stories were to build up this idea that the people being sent to hell deserved it. So when the tables turn in the last few episodes, you get to really feel the ending big time.[/ecs]

Although some of the eps were a bit tedious, I did enjoy the end.

I believe that happens in the ep. with the girl who's mother-in-law is a doll maker. Poor girl....
