The saddest anime I ever watched was
Kenshin - Seisouhen (last OVA) don't watch this, if you dont want your week to be ruined.
ecs please (dont read if you dont want to be spoiled! )
> [ecs]
The OVA plays many years after the anime series. Kenshin's married to Kaoru and both have a son, Kenji (4-5 years old).
Kenshin s suffering from a strange disease transferred with body liquards, i guess it's Aids) So when he comes home from his journey, sick and all, Kaoru is sad and wants to share his pain with him. So they make love, and Kaoru gets infected as well. But Kenshin leaves again soon and tells Kaoru that his real name was Shinta and that he wants her to call him by his real name when he returns.
Meanwhile Kaoru is suffering from the same desease and shes getting sicker and sicker. So Yahiko leaves to find her husband.
Kenshin is very sick now and has black sores all over his body. He returns home, his last journey.
And then comes the saddest scene of all anime ive ever seen:
Kenshin meets Kaoru at the path where he left her in the anime under the cherry trees and falls into her arms.
(This scene is awesome animated and the music... omg)
Kenshin: "Tadaima, Kaoru." (I'm home, Kaoru)
Kaoru: "Okairi nasai, Shinta." (Welcome back, Shinta)
In the end, Kaoru and Kenshin are sitting under blooming sakura trees. Kenshin lays his head in her lap and Kaoru talks to him about how Yahiko probably will soon marry. She looks down, then realizes that his cross scar has totally healed over and that Kenshin has finally died.
Kaoru: "Finally, your journey has come to an end."
She crys over him and then a very sad but beautiful credit music plays (Kenshin: "Sayonara... Kaoru")
[/ecs]<
I love sad anime.
Another one was
Escaflowne (last ep)
and of course the last episode of
Cowboy Bebop "Bang"
Naruto is pretty sad, too. Especially all scenes where "Sadness and Sorrow" is playing.
Mononoke-hime was sad, too. And of course
Grave of the fireflies was depressing.
Cheers

Anime has made me feel a gamut of emotions, ranging from happy to
sad to envy... to 'WHAT THE FREAK WERE THEY THINKING!!!' But I won't
reveal more than that

I used to think Kenshin had [ecs]Leprosy too... but I read somewhere that it's just some unknown disease that comes from the over use of Hiten Mitsurigiru. But whatever, details![/ecs]
If I cired easily... there are some anime that's pretty sad. But I'm not a guy that cries. Even if on the inside my heart is being wrenched up by something I'm watching, I'm a stoic on the outside.

[ecs]If anybody wants a more complete summary of Seisouhen then you can look up a few sites on it. Many have varying opinions and such. At first when I first finished watching it, I didn't really get sad because I didn't even realise that Kenshin died. What he was stricken with is debatable, but I think that the animators just left at that for everybody's own interpretation unless I'm wrong. Just remember that the whole Seisouhen OAV was just the animators interpretation of what might happen, though Watsuki disagrees and wished Rurouni Kenshin to have a happy ending. Sakura flowers seems to be the official ending of Rurouni Kenshin that Watsuki has made for the series where you can try to find on the internet.[/ecs]Just some stuff of Rurouni Kenshin.
I never cried for an anime when it ended, but some do leave me with a heart that is wrenched for a few days or anytime I am reminded of it. From what I remember the most powerful and moving I have ever seen was Nadesico the Movie: The Prince of Darkness. The ending with Ruri and then the credits with Dearest playing just destroyed me. The last few quotes of Ruri was awesome.

I don't know about crying, but I've gotten misty a few times.
TSR
Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture (shut up)
Grave of Fireflies
Can't remember any others off the top of my head. I'd have to think about it.

I'd have to say Kimagure Orange Road, everytime I watch it, it sends me on a emotional slippery-slide. A high one moment, the next, tears dripping down my cheeks.
Oh how I love that series.

Yeah, could also have been leprosy... [ecs] but who cares, he's dead. [/ecs]
Sakura Flowers? Is that an OVA, or just the last ep of the anime?
I forgot to mention
Chrno Crusade the last episode was sooo sad ... [ecs] (in the anime) Chrno and Rossetta both die ... [/ecs]
And
Wolfs Rain ... [ecs]they're killing off character after character[/ecs] But... I'm always getting depressed after watching the last ep of an anime I really liked.
I heard
Air: The Movie is pretty sad as well...
