According to the October issue of Newtype (Japan) (On sale September 10), four new Evangelion movies are in the works. The four movies will include a prequel, a mid-series movie, a sequel and a "final" movie. The prequel movie is due out early summer 2007.

While the new story will be set during the same time frame as the original TV series, Newtype states that it will be an entirely new project, not be a remake or improvement of any sort. Newtype also mentions that viewers will not need to have already seen previous Evangelion material in order to understand and enjoy the new movies.

Hideaki Anno will write the scenario for the first movie and will be the general director and manager for the entire project. Kazuya Tsurumaki will direct the movies while Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will provide character designs and Ikuto Yamashita will provide mechanical designs. Shinji Higuchi will provide storyboards for the first movie.

PREQUEL HAHAHAHA.
not need to have already seen previous Evangelion material in order to understand and enjoy the new movies.
Wait, there are persons who actually "understood" Evangelion by just watching the anime? Let alone enjoy it. <g>

They should turn Shinji from angsty into a hot-blooded Super Robot pilot. that'd get me to dish out for this.

...You already have your SRW Alpha series, so don't complain. :-P

I thought it was funny that one of the points from the purported interview was, "The technique that purposely scatters difficult words and phrases will not be used any longer."

<g> theres always one.
Alle achtung .. Word is the director himself didn't even know wtf was going on in the end due to a "mental breakdown" caused by stress. ;)

All I kinda "understood" is that Seele wanted to improve mankind and that Shinji gave himself?/ people a choice ne ne ne ???
But the rest of it went straight by me nor did I understand the elevator scene...
Maybe I should watch NGE again while sober) and the rest of it.

Where is the NGE for dummies when you need it.

The only elevator scenes I remember are with Rei and Asuka just standing there and a few others involving Kaji and Misato making out. Was there another, deeper one?

If SEELE wanted to improve mankind or not was debatable. I think they felt they were doing the right thing by making humanity one perfect entity, because people as individuals are imperfect. Very Judeo-Christian/Kabbalistic stuff.

I can't say that I understood NGE but I still enjoyed from it. I wonder what new this renewed NGE will bring.

Oh, I'm sure they'll continue to milk this cash cow for everything its worth. My only fear is that in their enthusiasm, they'll screw up the canon and I'll have no choice but to accept that this is how things are. At least if things are open-ended, there's room for debate. :?

Rule #1 of moviemaking: f**k canon... what else is new

...sorry, my cynical side talking after I see talk of FOUR NGE
movies in the pipeline. Somebody's got some cashola bankrolling them
but nothing in the world can save them from the wrath of fans...
