Soukou no Strain

Yay a new mecha series ..

Science fictional adaptation loosely based on the novel A Little Princess by Francis Hodgson Burnett.

I assume Burnett didn't put in the mecha. :)
In the distant future, the mankind is divided into two powers; Union and Deague. They have continued long war that no one is sure when it began. Union uses manned weapons, Strain, as the main military power, while Deague uses unmmand weapons Tumoru.
Sara Viereck, a daughter of a good family, is a Union’s 16-year-old girl who goes to Grapera Space Armed Soldier Academy locates in Cranial Solar System in order to become a full-fledged Reasoner (a pilot of Strain).
Her brother, Ralph Viereck, was sent to the front line 130 light years away to accomplish a special mission when she was 11 years old. It takes 400 years of objective time even by the fastest sub-light speed space craft of Union. However, according to relativist theory, it corresponds to two subjective years (the time crews experiences). Therefore, Sara needs to go to the same battle field to meet her brother.
Because they lost their parents when they were quite young, Sara thinks of her bother as a guy dearer than a sibling, and she lives for their reunion.
One day, the planet Sara lives is suddenly assaulted by Deague. Surprisingly, it was her brother Ralph that takes away a mysterious girl sleeping in a capsule.
To search the truth, Sara gets in Strain and runs after him. However, she receives an attack from Ralph, and the Mimic is broken. The Mimic is a copy of the pilot’s brain, and it is an essential part to control the Strain.
When it comes to the mecha I'm getting a Vandread vibe and since I enjoyed Vandread I will stick to this like peanutbutter on a makrel sandwich.
And it has nothing to do with the protagonist being a cute girl.

+
The animation looks great and the story shows a lot of potential.

One thing to note: this show's genre is "Bishoujo Mech Action". Thus, there will be inappropriate fanservice. If this bothers you, then go watch Gundam. As you have now all been warned, I don't want to hear any complaining about it.
...I'll consider myself fairly warned. Eagerly await a free transfer slot

Ohkay, so take every 'I'm looking for my missing precious older brother
that I haven't seen in 10+ years' girl dating back to Sala Mass, mix with a
liberal dash of 'I'm #1' gung-ho attitude, splash in a war between two
ideologically opposed sides and bake with the dreaded reunion from hell
where you find out Onii-chan's given up name and country for his own
hidden reasons and you've got the gist of S-Strain.

I have to admit I'm liking the series, though I much prefer if things were
alittle more gritty... ep #2 had a few more lighthearted moments that spoiled
the mood set up by ep 1. The fanservice surprisingly is alittle more mellow
than you'd expect, but you think you could leave somethings to the imagination...

...so when's Sara get her STRAIN back and get to show her REAL abilities?

It's cliche, but it felt like Kira getting Freedom.... snif.

ep 4.

I don't want to complain, but she kinda saved the asses of well ... fricking everybody. And still they hate her gut.
Sigh the scriptwriters over there should make a human relationship study.
and again ... another fragging brother complex, this time it's Lotte who wants to make mince meat out of Sara's brother Ralph because her brother got killed by Ralphy boy.
Sara of course wants to "change" Ralph.

Oh I already am going to enjoy the fight between Lotte and Sara.. :)

Their ship is crap too... no CIWS... no Missile System... no WEAPONRY. The thing's like a damned mobile pillbox for Strains. -.- And the non-reasoner pilots dont seem to have a clue what they're doing.

Wasn't it just a trainings vessel?

I wonder if a Missile System would work at the speed they were going :)

Anyway it doesn't matter how the ship is armed. They go Gundam'ish in this universe .. So even it if that ship had more firepower than the Marco Polo, a Strain would we able to come in close and cut the ship in half with a lightsaber..

Bah, the USS Constitution has old cannons at least. :P

They could at least try to look like they were fighting. :P A CIWS as a gesture of defiance at least.

...forget the CIWS Katyusha, I'm wondering who the hell's running the
popsicle stand here. Okay, Sara just up and does an unauthorized launch
during a combat situation, and the brother engineer/tech/geek up and
says to bury the whole thing to the CO?! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!
Sides, considering how maneuverable those TUMORs are, I think CIWS is
the LAST thing ya want stuck on your ship.

BTW, I rather like the 'bonus' Ralphy's got over on the Deague side...
she come with headlight and fuzzy dice accesories? *ROTF   *

Enough with this character development stuff!!
We got bling bling mecha, floppy socks and short skirts.. get on with the story.

Sara's todo list:

Kill Lotti.
Kill Brother or get him back.
Kill the real Emily and steal the dress designs.
Steamy Lavinia shower scene.
Learn how to draw.
Open up Goth mecha dolly shop on Ebay.
etc etc.

It's only 13 eps and she has a lot on the todo list.

Man, I coulda slept thru this ep. Other than Lavinia's bunnygirl scene,
I SERIOUSLY think they gotta get a new writer for the series... maybe
they're thinking they'll get renewed for another season?... and I'll
take you up on that Sara/Lavinia scene there Tau.

I HOPE this is not what the next ep of S-Strain has in store, though what I'm hearing about
the RAW itself is not complimentary story-wise *NB PIC IS NOT WORK / SCHOOL-SAFE*

...well, least Tau gets that steamy shower-scene he was talking about :-D

// hands Katyusha a napkin

Meh, another almost-wasted ep with Levinia scheming of ways to romance
Sara, all of which fail miserably  I'm wondering if that scene with
Ralph's Emily had any signifiance: "I'm coming to see you," of which I'm
sure she's referring to Sara... who else is there to see in any direction
for the next 300ly
