Huge smackdown on scanlation sites?

Seems that that the Japanese Digital Comics Association in conjunction with other major Japanese and US manga publishers,
including Viz, Yen Press, Vertical, and Tokyopop, will be jointly seeking legal remedies against online manga piracy.

Read all about it...

Well you could have seen it coming and you can blame the aggregator sites who continue to host series long after they've been licensed, or host actual scans of current licensed manga.

Now I hope they won't go after the small fishes the real scanlators who work on material that doesn't stand a chance to get licensed..
But imho they can bring down the sites that have paid membership accounts and earn money without paying the real creators.

HMM. World economy is up shits creek and its the scanlators fault?

But Wall Street gets off scott free...

See something wrong with this picture?

Sorry, I wouldn't care if Viz et al goes bankrupt. I've been burned by them several times when they decide to drop a series halfway (like Scrapped Princess) not because they aren't making money, but because they felt like it. I'm hesitant to buy manga because they may decide to stop publishing at any point......

On the other hand, I hate people making money off of scanlations even if it is to pay for the hosting. That is despicable...

Why get something for money when you can get it for free... and I'll admit
I've been guilty of this before. Seriously though, this was only a matter
of time given what's been happening the last couple of years -- and if you
don't know there's no excuse for willful ignorance.

@Killer
Rule #1 of a business is to make money...
Rule #2 of a business is to make money...
Rule #3 of a business is to make money...
Rule #4 of a business is to make money...
<wash rinse repeat here>
Rule #x is to actually give a damn about your customers

Could be worse, I've started a few series I'll never finish because the publisher's gone under *sighs*
