I don't doubt your intentions, and it's a great goal, but I think I'm getting a little misunderstood (and it's mostly my fault, too).

Actually, I was running off the "overly tight clothing" line of thought when referring to health, not "skimpy" or "anime costumes" - I think my initial statement said as much. (And when it comes to pants, rest assured, hurting yourself just to squeeze into them is not a good idea.) I didn't say anything about fat cosplayers - although if the goal is realism, then the plump are at a disadvantage due to the abnormally slim build of most anime characters. (Ignore the huge eyes and all that - that's for things like the opening picture of this thread. )

And about exposing oneself to public scrutiny, cosplay or otherwise, independent of all other things... well, it must come into play somewhere along the line, otherwise what are conventions for? (Especially cosplay: I can imagine people wanting to wear skimpy clothing because it's comfortable and makes them feel good, but dressing up in a suit of armour... that's another story.)

I'm still working on explaining the last bit, but I'm out of time, so I'll get to it later. Apologies to all offended parties, and damn, I've been doing a lot of that lately.

Thanks for clearing it up. I didn't think it was clear that you meant 'so extremely tight it's cutting off the blood supply' type tight costumes.

Tying your own comments with fms's and adding the appealing appearance bit made it easy to confuse what you were trying to say. It just looked like some what of you said was along the same lines, even if you used nicer words.

I'm not offended, but I do have personal experience with a dear friend who fusses herself into deep unhappiness over the issue of what other people think of her appearance. Knowing how these things can lead to even worse results than that, I'm going to reply to posts that seem to encourage or support the whole 'ewwww fattie!! (or whatever)' mindset.

So, much love for cosplayers including the hairy, huge, and x-dressing!
I do think the mask type is a bit creepy, but I'm sure the people doing it like it so... yay for them too.
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

Well, I'm glad that's cleared up: I was horribly OT from the start anyway. I have absolutely nothing against groups of people, only individuals - but that's another story for another time.

Having said that, though, that mask is still creepy.

As a chubby cosplayer myself (not fat, just chubby), I try to make costumes that fit my bodytype well and hide some of the chubby. As for my Kaname costume, well, that's the reason I'm on a diet and toning up.

As long as the costume is well made, everything is fine. But I for one do NOT want to see someone even my size in a plug suit. Heck, I've seen skinny people I don't ever want to see in spandex EVER AGAIN (i.e. the Lillith with the bath slippers and pee stain).

It comes down to what the costumer is comfortable in. I myself wouldn't make a plug suit or a sailor senshi uniform now, but there are girls who do (and guys) and more props to them for having the guts to wear it.

And more OT....those masks STILL creep me out....

Somehow some of this talk about crossdressing reminded me of one of the Champloo episodes, the one with the gay Dutchie.. :)

A long time ago in Japan, it was said that the best woman on stage (kabuki) was a man.. :-D
Then again this might be one of the ona-gata legends.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

true.

the male chararacters mostly look femine and the female characters are mostly exaggerated über-girly (especially body measure wise ;) you know what I mean)
