Kaname's family

I need some info on Kaname's family for a little something I'm working on. I lent out my DVD's so I can't check them for some of the info.

We know that Kaname's mother died three years prior to the series and that she was probably very close to her. We know that her father and sister still live in New York. It's assumed that he's probably well-off to support her continuing her education in Japan. We also know that she stays in fairly regular contact with her sister but doesn't have that great a relationship with her father for some reason or another.

What I can't remember, but I know is on the DVDs is the names of Kaname's father, mother and sister, as well as how old her sister is. So if someone could please fill me in on that information, I'd really appreciate it. Also, is there anything else I'm forgetting or something that I might not know about her family?

From Episode 1, we learn that Chidori's father is Shunya and her sister is Ayame.

I can't be totally sure, but I've heard that Ayame is 4 years younger than her... at any rate, watch Episode 1 of FMP!, and pause it at the scene where Kurz, Mao and Sousuke look at Kaname's file.

As posted back there where we came from...

You won't believe how hard it is to catch that frame, and then view it under (mediocre) VCD resolution. Her mother's name seems to be Shizu (yes, I can't get it too clearly), and there's no mention of her younger sister's age.

So it's:

Shunya Chidori (Father)
Shizu Chidori (Mother, deceased)
Ayame Chidori (Younger sister)

An interesting note, however, is that on her history, the entry just before "mother dies of cancer" has something to do with "three days house detention for malicious damage to school property". Hypocrite.

(The two points could be related, though, and I wouldn't blame her.)

Heh. I didn't see that. That crazy Kaname.

I wonder if she blew up the lockers.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that in the manga, Kaname has a grandfather. He was evidently distant from her family her whole life since she didn't approve of her parents' marriage, but he goes to find her to make amends in one of the mangas. I wonder if that also happened in the original novels.

Chidori's father is the Environmental High Commisioner in the UN. I believe Ayame is in middle school, and yes, her mother died of cancer.

Hmm... Pretty lofty position. Makes you wonder if the Whispered are really just born that way or if they were somehow imbued by human design. I wonder if her father has known about her "powers" all along.

Ran away from home too, huh? And it seems that her father and sister didn't move away very long ago.

That's impressive intel, they even know her hobbies. Maybe they got that from some school assignment she did about herself.

probably.. I remember I had to state my hobbies and ambitions on my entrance application for elementary school...

what interests me about the Kaname dossier is, it was written Kaname caused destruction to school property and was suspended from school for three days. Something's amiss there.....

3 things happen in 1998-
The family returns to Japan + the suspension + mom dies.

From the Behemoth arc remember Kaname telling Tessa about her bad experience returning to Japan? She was treated like an outcast for a while (until high school?). And if the family also knew the mother was sick at the time of her violent incident, that would be a tough double whammy for her. Perhaps she reached a 'cannot contain anymore' moment.

yeah I remember Kaname's talk with Tessa.. but it was kinda vague. Well either that or I JUST can't read the subtext <-- not so smart XD

still I am interested to know what they meant by 'destruction of school property'.. Arson? Destroying school chairs and tabes?

Blowing up lockers.

Actually, I can just imagine Kaname beating a locker door in, then breaking down in frustration and crying with her head resting against it. (Or possibly using someone else's head to beat the locker door in... but that's pushing it a little.)

I can see her using Sousuke's head to do that, especially if he's "a stupid military nut" at the time. She did throw him into the middle of the road to get a cab in Fumoffu.

And during the end credits, we see several pictures with Kaname. Some have her family in them. Do any of them show what her father looks like?

well there is a family photo of them all together, with Kaname and Ayame(?) in their elementary school uniform, I assume...
