Heh, I just noticed that Gates was humming the Alfred Hitchcock theme (Gounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette) in this one. Creepy :-P

Mao looks really cool with those shades. When I watched the first subbed version, I thought of something (ODBD spoiler): [ecs]You know how in the novel, it's Mao that seduces and captures Bluno. But he met her in this episode so maybe he'll recognize her later... but she was wearing sunglasses so maybe he won't after she puts on a blonde wig... I can see it now: After Bluno's tied up he'll be like "wtf" and Mao will take off her wig and put on her sunglasses and say, "Remember me? Bitch?" :-D Or they can just do the novel way of sticking a gun in his mouth. ;)[/ecs]

As for how Yue Lang hides a knife, a pistol, and a machete in her skimpy dress... maybe she's got one of those bottomless transdimensional pockets like Doremon has. Anime laws of physics :).

Yeah, where the hell was she able to conceal that knife anyway? I can see that maybe she grabbed that pistol off that soldier, but then where did that huge machete come from in the following scene?! Indeed, the powers of anime :-P :)

Couple of things...(spoilers for End of Day by Day novels ahead)

Is it just me, or does anyone else get the feeling that what we're seeing now is a prologue to the actual events in the End of Day by Day novels? I can't help but wonder if the writers have made up a separate story arc? Because in the beginning of the EDBD novels,
Mithril already knows that Vincent Bluno has betrayed them and caused a few of their men to die, whereas in the anime, this hasn't happened yet. And judging by the TSR preview, the scene where Mithril goes after Bluno will happen. Thus, I'm predicting that this season is separated into 2 arcs, the pre-EDBD arc and the actual EDBD arc.
Of course I'm not complaining, if this is an actual prologue, then more power to the writers, I'm really enjoying this. :D But then again, I would like to see more Kaname screentime. :( But if my guess is correct, then we'll get to see lots of her later on! :D

And dammit, I wanna see the scene where
Kaname gives Sousuke a haircut!!!!!
*fangirlish squeal*

And yeah, the neck slashing scene took me by surprise. She even cut the spine in half! @_@;;

I'm pretty sure we haven't actually gotten into the ODBD story line yet.

They've established the fact that Sousuke is in danger of not going through to the next grade. That's a key issue in ODBD.

There's also the 'sousukes hates the arbalast' thing...
spoilers : [ecs]Gatous himself has said that one of his primary goals with the odbd arc was to make Sousuke stop dreading the arbalast, and make it 'cooler', since it's the main mecha of the series...this has been introduced by Sousuke saying how he thinks it's unreliable, and that doesn't happen untill later in odbd...as I recall it, anyway[/ecs]

Overall, yeah, this is a prologue of sorts, but I also believe they've refined it, overall...I think it quite likely that gates will be more involved in this series. He'd just fit right into the later arcs...

I'm pretty sure what they are doing right now with these current eps is jusy laying the foundation for the story we all know is to come, which is just fine by me :)

Esophagus or trachea... I forget my basic human anatomy. I'd almost swear
it was the trachea.

As for the knife, you can find quality knives that size that can be concealed.
But the large machete / sword she had when she was walking on Mao... yea...
Personally, I think it's an animation blooper by Kyoto myself

It should be the trachea/windpipe since it's located in front of the esophagus. That's why it's pretty easy to choke a person, doesn't make much sense in evolution standards why we have the more vunerable trachea on the front and the esophagus on the inside.

the genes probably figured 'hell, we've already got the main arteries which power the brain running up the neck...if somebody goes for the neck region and is successful, our host's gonna die anyway...who cares if we put a few additional vulnerable things there?'

As for the huge machette...I bet she's just really skilled with origami crafting and folded it from a paper napkin just then...;-)

Nah, actually, she didn't have to keep neither gun, knife or machette on her in that skimpy dress....those items could've been placed by the terrorists beforehand in her vecinity...without the other hostages knowledge, of course.

That the FRT guys didn't locate those items is kinda odd anyhow.

This episode was more of a set-up episode than anything else. I guess in the next one is where all the good stuff happens. :-D

Yup, another cliffhanger. Kaname hasn't been getting as much screentime this time around, but after Fumoffu I suppose I could use a short break from school yard antics. Do want to see where they take the relationship this season, especially with the intervention of you know who.

The gunbunny in me has been quite pleased with this season so far though, the production team seems to be doing their research well. The South China forces seem to be pretty plausible, especially if the Nationalists had continued to hold the south back in '49. Were those South China AH-64 Apaches in the opening battle? Wonder if we'll see the North China forces next time around.

Actually come to think of it, you'd think the South China forces would have plenty of experience fighting the Soviet AS's Gate's guys were using (assuming that North China uses mostly Soviet equipment).

Ah what the hell, can't wait for the next ep.
