They probably snatched it up while it was still in production- which is becoming increasingly common.HELLFIRE wrote:...any new news, lately? Hit Geneon's site and they have the Appleseed
movie on their scrolling banner up there... they CAN'T'VE already gotten
the rights to that... have they?
Edited- deleted everything else- it was announced in March - here
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

On a good day, a Tomahawk can fly into the door of a two-car garage at the distance of several hundred miles. And that can ruin your whole day.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

...and oh GOD!!! is the CG to DIE FOR!!!!! I don't mind admiting I
had a hardon all the while watching!!
CG backgrounds, mocap char animation, toon shaders.... the whole works!
I'm half-wondering if some shots were blended with live-action -- right at
the beginning Deu-what's-her-name tosses herself onto the bed and I'd've
SWORN they shot the bed reaction live, and blended the CG char on top.
Half guessing at what happens -- SEEMS the manga's the basis for
the general storyline. Deunan gets picked up and brought to Olympus
by Hitomi, eventaully joins ESWAT and meets up with Briaros<sp>.
Athena and Nike in the picture, as is the Council of 7... picked out Lance
and Fang I think....
...something to do with an abandoned lab that has to do with Deunan's past...
Had to go to work after that

A set of fairly readable subs just showed up for the Appleseed 2004 movie, so:
Basis for the story's ripped from Book 2 of the manga where
Gaia 'debates' over the future of humans and Biroids; but while the overall
storyflow's kept, the details have been MAJORLY reworked: fans of pure
unadalterated Shirow WILL be disappointed!!
Deunan and Brieros were involved during the war, as was Deunan's father,
Carl. Brieros was involved in an accident which resulted in his total
cyborization. From that as well, he and Deunan were seperated for a few
years, and she was left to fight on by herself -- as depicted in the movie's
opening scene.
In Olympus, Biroids are bred as a control / balance factor to humans: they
have no emotions or feelings -- concepts of love and falling in love are foreign
to them -- and more importantly, can CANNOT breed. However, after an
attack on D-Tank (the breeding center of subsequent genreations of
Biroids), Athena puts out an effort to retrieve the work of Dr (forget her
name) who originated the work on the Biroids. Dr <x> is also important
char-wise as she's Deunan's mother, and has left a very important key,
known as Appleseed, with Deunan when she was a child.
Returning to Olympus, Deunan discovers the truth behind the murder of
her mother, and how the Biroids now plan to take their place as the 'replacements'
of human beings -- secreted in D-Tank is a virus that will destory humans'
abilities to procreate. Needless to say, Athena, Deunan and Brieros don't
think much of this 'plan' and take step tp stop it.
Last scene I WISH I could've seen in the theather with full 5.1 sound and
ULTRA wide screen, as it's the ONLY way to justify the lavish
CG work that went into executing it. As I said tho, the downside is the
'reworking' of Shirow's original story to make this movie
...wonders if in a subsequent movie Sokaku will show up
[Deunan]'Our Father, who art in Heaven, make sure this costs him at
least 50 grand!' *BOOOOM!!!*[/Deunan]

*drudges up old thread*
Hehe, I just knew there'd be a thread on this.
OMG, I'm a lil (a lot) late, but this movie kicks [butt]!! The moves are awesome, graphics rock *has completely snatche- er, captured scenes for icons* and the story line is intriguing. Especially love the chick with the killer whip that splits the car in half like a knife through butter. Not to mention the vice move with two hands to the head. Have only watched about 3/4 of the way, I'm running off to finish it now ~
