I know this is a pretty old anime (1997), but I finally saw it today...
I'm still having trouble comprehending just what happened in that movie...
Can anyone break it down for me?

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

I'll try explaining it without exposing the ending, which is part of the fun of this movie, which makes it kinda like "The Sixth Sense".
Mima was in a movie that basically mirrored her life (ex pop start trying to become an actress). Then the murders started happening around her and that ugly dude was stalking her. Mima ended up having nervous breakdown, and began not to distinguish between reality and the movie she was in. The 'virtual girl' was her mental projection of the person wrtting as if she was the real Mima on that web site "Mima's Room", which fuled her mental breakdown. This is why the movie gets confusing, because the director is putting you in Mima's head to experience everything she was experiencing starting from the point at which she was being filmed acting out the rape scene. If you notice, the movie's feel shifts drastically at that point.
