back to hair please.

as rule when things get animated hair color tends to get well distorted to allow new watchers to keep track of who is who. look at Ren and Kaname put the two next to each other and then go black and white give kaname a cut and they could pass for twins. it has to do with the artist and style real people have more variations of facial features then animated ones, so you can end up with look alike and even fun little spin offs
example of non related yet look a likes.
Kaname - FMP
Captain Yurika Mitsamaru - Nedasco

Samew show look alikes who because of eye and hair can be told apart
Rei Ayanme - blue hair short with red eyes - NGE
Auska - red hair long with blue eyes - NGE

and spin off

Miyuki Kobayakawa - You're under arrest got some thing of a promotion, name change, hair die and makeup job to be come............................... * drumroll *
Belldandy - Oh my Goddess based on a comic gag strip done in the original YUA and it went from there...
( any wonder with all that hot roding they never got a speeding ticket? )

They're not alike... Really, man. (both for Asuka 'n Rei & Miyuki 'n Belldandy)

I like Kaname's hair... It's original, simple as that ^^

In the novel, Kaname's hair is described as black. So is Sousuke's and Tessa's is Ash Blonde. The coloration in the anime is taken off of that.

on-topic: watch claymore (awesome anime btw) all those gals mostly differ in their hair-style only.
when I was new to anime and stuff, the first thing I noticed was that faces are often drawn alike.

Claymore wasn't that good, and the end was a huge letdown for me. I kept wanting them to pull out AKs when the enemy showed up.

How about this--

Blue is more eye catching in digital media, honestly the books are more realistic if you can believe that--- so instead of being black they just made it blue. No big-- still cool

Yeah, different hair colours are there to make it easier to distinguish characters and make things flashier. Honestly it wouldn't make any difference to me if every Asian person's hair was black.
