I'm wondering if I've got the identities of the various people responsible for FMP! in print correct.
Here's my list:
Shoji Gatoh -- Writer and creator of FMP! in novel and short story form published in Dragon Magazine.
Shikidouji -- Illustrator for Dragon Magazine and FMP! novel/short story books. He (she?) did the original character designs used in the animations and mangas.
Retsu Tateo -- Mangaka for the Full Metal Panic! manga.
Animation Studios:
Gonzo Digimation: First season of Full Metal Panic!
Kyoto Studios: FMP?Fumoffu and FMP! The Second Raid
Unknown people:
Mangakas for FMP! Overload, FMP! Surplus and upcoming FMP! Sigma.
Who else might I be missing?

There's alot of em I don't know, but...
ShikiDouji's a he, and is always credited with the original character design.
Retsu Taeto is a she (I know you didn't ask, but I've seen people be surprised because of her style of fan service)
Ikinari!/Overload and Surplus are both drawn by Nagai Tomohiro.
Sigma- Hiroshi Ueda

I always thought she was female from all the introspection into Kaname's character rather than Sousuke's.
Come to think of it... maybe that's why someone else is doing the manga after volume 9. Gatou did say did say that ODbD established Sousuke as the true protagonist of the series. Maybe he wanted someone who could put more focus on him.
But get back on topic. >.>

Gatou still wrote the manga, though, so I'm uncertian how much influence she had on that. Some probably
I didn't think her gender was a big deal, much less of an issue, but I am amused when people express surprise that women can draw (or appreciate) provactive fanservice imagery
