If they ever made a game out of FMP...

No, SRW doesn't count.
But if they did, what would it be?
Of course, Mech Simulation would be at the top of my list, since it seems most likely. After all, you can't have FMP without Arm Slaves. Having said that, though, I had this really bad idea where FMP would have a Raising Sim made out of it (like Gainax's Ayanami Raising Project). Just imagine the scenario (spoilers for novels):
[ecs]In the wake of a Siberian plane crash, you (instead of Kalinin) are the first on the scene, only to find a Japanese baby as the lone survivor.[/ecs] Now, saddled with a kid you never wanted, it's up to you to raise the little bugger into what he'll turn out to be - hopefully, not a triggerhappy gunbunny with absolutely no understanding of civilian life.
Same thing could go for Tessa, Kaname, the twins [ecs](can you do a better job than Gauron?
)[/ecs]...

I chose side-scrolling game. It seems like that way, he could both fight civilians without an armslave for the Fumoffu like missions and fight other armslaves/military hardware as an armslave for the Mithril missions. So here's an example of it I see in my mind:
Mission 3: Kaname's been kidnapped by delinquints.
You as Sousuke starts out either weaponless (and pick up weapons later) or armed with rubber shotgun slugs with limited ammo. Walk through the city to rescue Kaname and beat up the thugs along the way. Double Dragon style. Optional player 2: Issei Tsubaki
Mission 6: Africa
Mithril sends the AS team to take out some warlord and rescue civilians.
You as the Arbalest or some other AS. Pick up new weapons and extra ammo along the way, rescue the civies, random/event activated Mithril reinforcements/airsupport along the way, clear stage. Super Contra style. Optional player 2: any other one of the AS team.
Different kinds of missions will let you be different characters/machines. Kaname can be a playable character too. Maybe even missions as Bonta-kun
.

I voted for other, I would like a 3rd Person game. So the character can Pilot an AS, fight hand to hand, Drive cars, get hit by Kaname, etc. Like Metal Gear and SOCOM

Mech simulator all the way... uberpoints if you get to use the Lambda Driver
indescriminately on cityscapes on a regular basis... I'm not a believer in
'balanced' play
tho the dating sim kinda tickles the funny bone too

A RTS e.g C&C with all the mech units would be cool .. Sousuke(insert char) could be the hero type unit
GDI = Mithril
NOD= Almagam
But a mix between "the Sims" and GTA would be amusing too.

FPS would be the most awesome, imo. Be hilarious if there was a level where you could use the Bonta-kun suit. Kick-ass.

Combine Mech sim/FPS and dating sim. If the date goes wrong you can still crush, shoot and vaporize the target of your affection
I believe that Tau mentioned a game for the gameboy advanced in wich a number of mecha from diferent series would fight against eachother. Mortal combat style. Now that would be nice

I think an FMP! Video Game would work great if it was designed like Mega Man Legends or Simpsons: Hit And Run. Not necessarily in the same storyline but more in the sense that it should have that "Free Roaming" environment and have both Kaname and Sousuke be playable characters. Another great idea would be to let players use Sousuke's wide arsenal of weapons and maybe use the attack moves that Kaname uses on poor Sousuke, and the fan! Don't forget the fan! You should also be able to use a wide variety of mechs. You could start out with the mech from Episode 1 or the ARX-7 Arbalest and then unlock others like the ones Sousuke uses in TSR or the one he steals from the enemies in Episode 5 (or 6). You could also unlock other Mithril AS's. Maybe you can also control Kaname's Whispered abilities or be able to see somewhat "graphic" descriptions of what she sees in the same style that was used in the opening for "Sonic Adventure" or the cut scenes in "D". As for the others, You can ask them for advice...OR you can add a mode where you can take control of Mithril officials and give orders, sort of like the good and bad sides of "Sonic Adventure 2", "Fable" or a "Star Wars"game. In this case however, you'll have a "Soldier" mode (Sousuke and Kaname) and a Official mode (Mithril Officials). A two- four/online multiplayer mode would work as well. The storyline could take after "24", I think that would be cool. Sgts Mao and Kurz could give advice or be CPU/Player 3 and 4 teammates.

Geez, that was a lot. Maybe I should make the game or at least pitch it to someone like Capcom or Konami or that company that made those PS2 Mech games.
EDIT: sj49y is right, a Bonta-Kun battle armor should be available as well. As for the music, You could include the original music from the anime and maybe some music by a famous Video Game music composer, *cough* Tommy Tallarico *cough*.

I'm voting Mech-sim here. Maybe not so much like Mech warrior but something more along the lines of Armored Core (but without the mech-tweakeage).
A ground slogging element would be cool too. Something like Oni, 3rd person, so you get to beat the sweet living snot out of the badguys instead of just shooting them.

Voted for other(third-person), merely because I personally think that sort of view is easier to overlook melee combat in, and one aspect about AS that's pretty cool is their maneuverability. Easier to keep track of where you're going in third person if you're diving and rolling, right?

I'm thinking it would most likely be a Mech sim. It'd be hard as hell to control an AS with a X Box controller, though. They have so many motions that are all based off of what the pilot does, it'd be a fun game though. *Fervently wishes for an M9 for Christmas*

I'm going to go with an RPG. Story, story, story! We could make it somewhat in the vain of Xenogears with combat both inside and outside of Mechs. But it would need a real time combat system with a variety of combat styles, so it would have both armed and unarmed combat.
My next choice would be a third person or maybe first person shooter, with a good storyline. This would probably make it easier to accommodate the versatile action of the series.

ooo
RPG, for normal gameplay
Tekken/Mortal Combat for out of mech combat hand to hand style
BattleField 2142 for invasion/platoon style combat mech/no mech
