Song 3: Ballad of the Fox and the Rabbit.
Nightfall came; the day has passed the three soldiers and blue haired teen by as quickly as it had come. Sousuke looked over at a sleeping Mao and sighed, he knew that Mao’s injuries would keep her from continuing her duties at Mithril. If Mao were lucky she would at least get a desk job. Her spine was fractured; there were no signs of the spinal cord being severed. The young soldier looked at Kurtz, he seemed to be extremely saddened by this untimely casualty.
Sousuke grabbed a cup of warm coco and walked back to the couch Kaname was sitting at. She was sitting up clinging to the blanket that she and Sousuke shared the night before. The blue haired girl looked up as Sousuke approached her; she saw the look in Sousuke’s eyes as he handed her the cup of coco. “So will she be all right?”
The young soldier glanced back at the sleeping Mao, “yes, she will recover. The injuries did not affect to seriously but I am afraid that she will no longer have the ability to perform as a soldier.” Kaname was shocked at the news and clung to Sousuke’s arm, “she has a fractured spine, both arms are broken and she has a dislocated shoulder. On top of that she had three bullets in her side but we managed to take them out before they threatened her life in any way.” Kaname suddenly shivered and a concerned Sousuke looked down and pulled the blanket up to Kaname’s shoulders.
She continued to cling to the Sgt. Majors arm and smiled, “thank you Sousuke.” Sousuke sat next to Kaname and pulled the blanket over him as well. The teen smiled at the increase in warmth as she clung to Sousuke wrapping her arms around his waist. “Will you stay here like this, for me?”
The Sgt. Major smiled as Kaname’s head leaned on his shoulder, “yes.” He caressed Kaname’s cheek and wished her to sleep, remembering that was what his mother would do to comfort him, looking up once more to see what the condition of Mao and Kurtz was. After seeing that they were both asleep he slowly drifted in to a deep slumber.
The next morning when Kaname woke up she found no sign of Mr. Sagara. Standing up she observed her surroundings, see that she was alone she pouted, “god Sousuke, you said you would stay here with me.” She continued to survey the apartment, his new safe house seemed to be much larger than the old one. Suddenly the phone rang, since it wasn’t her house she was a bit skeptical about picking up the phone. She finally answered the phone, “hello.”
“Hello, Kaname... I’m glad to hear that you are up.” Kaname smiled when she heard Sousuke’s voice come over the speaker. “I need you to come down to the hangar, you remember the way?” I took a while but Kaname finally made it to the secret hangar, she saw Sousuke in his battle attire and frowned.
“What are you doing,” pointing at the young soldier.
“Oh Kaname, right on time, I need you to get into this container,” he said pointing at the large box over in the corner. He quickly jumped to speak when he saw Kaname becoming angry, “it is a small room that you can stay in while we go to the De Danaan.” Sousuke guided the woman to the container, Kaname sighed and stepped in, she thought to herself ‘it’s livable for now.’
She looked over the facilities and helped Sousuke bring the injured Mao in to the small cargo box. Kaname looked up at Sousuke and frowned, “nothing funny now, no tossing us and make sure we don’t get shot.”
Sousuke stood at attention, “roger!” He jumped into the cockpit of the Arbalest and started the giant mech.
The suit started up as Kaname entered the cargo space and comforted the injured Mao. Sousuke hit a few buttons to start the mech as the AI awakened. “Hello Sergeant Major, what circumstances would you like to run under?”
Sousuke flipped on a switch to see the weather conditions outside. “Al, would you run under mode 4, activate ECS mode 3, unlock all joints and weapon locks. We may run into a few enemies so unlock the Lambda driver.”
“Roger Sgt. Major.” The screen lit up as the arm slave began operations. “Activating mode 4, ECS invisible mode 3, weather conditions stormy. All weapon safeties off, weapon locks off, joint locks off, starting Lambda driver now.” Operations began, the Arbalest picked up the container Kaname and Mao were in, making sure that there were no sudden movements.
The young soldier inside Arbalest spoke to Al, “ai, make sure the ECS on the container is working.”
“Roger Sergeant Major.” Operations ran smoothly, Sousuke and Kurtz managed to make it to the seashore unnoticed, at least the so-called messenger of death was no were in sight. Sousuke contacted the Da Danaan requesting a quick pick up and for medical officers to be in the hangar when they arrived, that’s when they noticed a young woman sitting on the beach staring at them. Of course they didn’t know that she knew that they were there, they assumed that she was staring into the sky. Kurtz grinned when he saw how beautiful the young female was. She had long black hair with streaks of blue, and blonde. Her eyes seemed to glow in the darkness of that day, sapphire eyes piercing through Sousuke. The young soldier thought she looked familiar but then dismissed the thought.
His thoughts came racing back when he heard the girl talk. “Sousuke Sagara... Where are you?” Sousuke took a closer look zooming in and taking in her face, to his disbelief the girl looked a lot like Chemi, he felt awkward after that. A few minutes later the Tuatha Da Danaan surfaced twenty meters offshore signaling the two arm slaves to come to the base.
On board the Tuatha Da Danaan medical officers took Mao to the operations room, they needed to realign her spine so that the spinal cord would not be severed. Sousuke wished Mao luck as he saw her off, he then turned back towards Kaname. She seemed down then looked at Sousuke, “so is Tessa here?”
“I already informed you on her wear bouts, she is no longer with this submarine. When production on the Da Danaan mark 2 finishes all the soldiers at this station will be transferred,” the brown haired soldier’s eyes met Kaname’s. “You know, I think that I will stay in Japan. I like having a normal life, and protecting you takes priority, for that was the mission that I was given and I will cry out that mission.”
Kaname smiled and ran over to Sousuke, “I think I would like that Sgt. Major,” she said running in to Sousuke’s embrace. The two ‘friends’ activities did not go unnoticed, many of the newer soldiers whistled and howled at the sight of the hard ass soldier being kind to someone. Noticing this Kaname blushed and turned away, about ready to kill every single one of the soldiers whistling and howling but then saw Sousuke walk over to the soldiers.
Sousuke stood firm in front of the pilots, “attention!” A few of the vets that knew Sousuke personally stood at attention, others that obeyed the Sgt. Major heard the stories of Sousuke’s exploits, but a select few of the soldiers grinned at Sousuke.
Their names were, Jensai Miyasotai, Dune Aragaki, and Joseph Walker. Sousuke remembered recruiting them, Jensai and Dune are excellent pilots and Walker is a master at hand to hand combat, but still no were near Sousuke’s league. Walker was the first one to speak, “so Sgt. Major,” he glanced over at Kaname and looked at her from head to toe which infuriated Sousuke, “you thinking about sharing her?”
Sgt. Major Sousuke Sagara stared at Walker, “if you were smart you would stand down Ensign Walker, I could have you court marshaled.”
Walker grinned, “I could get you discharged as well Sgt. Major Sagara.” There was a tone of sarcasm in Walker’s voice that quickly angered Sousuke, then Kurtz walked in.
“Well boys, you may not have hear but Sousuke here just so happens to have the authority to bring Ms. Chidori here.” He grinned and stuck his index finger in Walkers face, “plus contradicting you Commanding officer would get you some time, plus I don’t think you would like to tango with Sousuke, he would kick your ass and leave it out to dry if you messed with him.” He grinned again when he saw the fury in Sousuke's eyes, “damn, he may just kill you guys like he did Gauron.” The three soldiers backed down at the mention of Sousuke’s exploits, quietly admitting defeat and returning to their respective posts. When Kurtz turned back to Sousuke he noticed that the young soldier was already taking Kaname to Tessa’s room, well it was Sousuke’s now because she instructed Kalinin to give him the room in her absence. “That boy, I swear he is going to get laid soon, huh I pay to see that. I can imagine that now, oh my Ms. Chidori where do I put it?” Kurtz laughed as he polished his M9.
Back with Sousuke, he and Kaname had finally made it to his room, he opened the door and smiled. Kaname gripped Sousuke from behind and laid into him, Sousuke felt comfort in her actions, but one thing that still bothered him was that girl. He looked at the ceiling thinking about that girl’s face, “she looked like Chemi, so much. Is it possible that she survived the AS attack?”
Kaname looked at Sousuke who was deep on thought, “what are you talking about Sousuke?”
The young girl was eager to hear what Sousuke was thinking about, “this girl that I saw on the beach. She looked like Chemi, you know, the girl that I was talking about back at the safe house. That girl looked exactly like her, it’s scary, could she be the pilot of Reaper, I have a bad feeling.” Kaname was worried, Sousuke was never irritated by something like this to the point of total solitude before.
Chidori smiled and turned Sousuke around, blushing she stood upon her toes as to reach Sagara’s face. Sousuke jumped and turned his back to Kaname fairly quick, slightly coughing he looked back at Kaname, “I’m not sure if this is the best time to do that. We should focus on helping Mao and finding information on that girl that I saw on the beach.”
Kaname clenched a fist, she growled as she thought to herself. ‘Damn Sousuke, another perfectly good chance ruined because of you Military habits.’ Sousuke walked over to the closet and pulled out a box. He quickly handed her the box and stood back watching her open it. He smiled when he saw the look on Kaname’s face when she opened the box. “Oh my god Sousuke, it’s beautiful.” She pulled from the box a diamond ring, a bracelet, and two earrings. “How could you afford this.”
Sousuke grinned, “well I get paid well, but that diamond. Well I found that diamond in South Africa on a mission to stop diamond smugglers.” Kaname put the ring on, perfect fit, the earrings were gold and so was the bracelet. “Those objects are pure gold, and the ring is platinum and silver. Please do not lose them or have them stolen because they cost a lot of money. These gifts are just to say that I am sorry for taking so long to come back, if you even wanted me back.” Kaname was stunned, this man that stood before her, that had been through countless battles, who could cares less about anything than the mission, was worried that she wouldn’t want him back.
The blue haired teen frowned then leaned into Sousuke wrapping her arms around him as to comfort the soldier. Sousuke responded by placing his arms around Kaname, he was happy, happy that Kaname was here and she cared about him, happy that he was finally able to see her again. The soldier gazed down at the teenage girl he had come to care for so much, “Kaname, I want you to know that I would never leave you, not even for a war.” The young Sgt. Major held the girl tighter, “not for anyone.”
Kaname smiled, she closed her eyes and leaned into Sousuke’s warm chest. This girl did not want to be anywhere but here, any time but now, all she wanted was for time to stop and revolve around just her and Sousuke. She glanced at Sousuke and grinned, “so is it time yet?”
Sousuke had no idea what Kaname was talking about, “time for what?”
The blue haired girl pouted then smiled, placing both her arms around Sousuke’s neck and leaned forward. Upon her toes their lips met in a blissful, passionate kiss, one that Kaname wished would last for an eternity, if not longer than one, if that was possible. She pulled away and let out a breathe of exhaustion for she felt an eternity pass as they kissed, and she for one felt tired. Sousuke, who was quick to notice this, guided his muse over to his bed and laid her down, covering her in the unused blanket. She tugged at his shirt, he smiled knowing that Kaname did not want him to leave.
Sousuke placed his hand over Kaname’s, “I’m sorry Kaname, my duty states that I must attend to Mao’s side.”
Kaname grinned and pointed her finger in Sousuke’s face, “but a second ago you said that you wouldn’t leave me for anyone.”
The cocky girl smiled at her victory then noticed Sousuke moving into the bed, “you are sharp, I did say that. You know what,” he removed his shirt and slid under the blanket and brought Kaname in to his arms bringing a crimson blush to the blue haired vixen’s face, “I think I will stay.”
Outside the room Kurtz sat, he heard the entire conversation and smiled, “little Sagara becomes a man today, good for you bro. Boy, when I tell sis about your exploits she will have a fit, well not as big as Tessa’s.” He laughed and walked back to the med room to sit with Mao. Little did he know Tessa would be arriving soon, to take command of her ship and to check up on Mr. Sagara.
About an hour later Tessa had arrived and walked down the familiar halls of the Tuatha Da Danaan. She finally arrived at the Sousuke’s room and opened the door thinking that Sousuke was in Japan guarding Chidori. Tessa flipped the light switch and turned to the bed, ready to take a long nap, but what she saw left her speechless. She dropped her bags at the sight of Sousuke in bed with... Kaname. She covered her mouth and ran out the room with tears flowing from her eyes, Sousuke, being the best soldier he can be, was quick to notice his captain enter and leave the room. He did not know what to do but to lay there, acting as if he was still sleeping, he looked at Kaname then at the door, “what do I do now...?”
