Fox Hunt...
Chapter 3
“Then make it possible!” I felt Kaname’s voice penetrate the my soul, “you told me that you felt like you could do anything when I’m around,” the tears trickling down her face left the air around us stale, as if someone had stopped time in its tracks, “then stay here, please Sousuke.”
I couldn‘t help it, this young girl was using all her strength and will power to keep me here. I gazed at Kaname, her eyes red with tears, I said what little I knew to comfort her, “I’ll try Kaname.” The little closet filled with silence, all I could hear was the rapid beating of my heart and the tears Kaname shed the drowned out everything else. Sitting there in the dark, holding Kaname close to me I felt an urge to tell her how I felt about her, but all I could manage was, “for our sake.”
For our sake, why did I stop with that, I have faced down countless horrors that the toughest man would falter from. Well... no challenge was as tough or ever will be as Kaname Chidori. I had pulled the trigger on a gun, not one that killed though, one that brought Chidori and I closer together.
“Sousuke...” She looked up at me, locking her eyes with mine. A look of pure innocence came upon her; “do you really mean that?” I knew that the only way I could to stay with Chidori was to leave Mithril, but could I really leave all those people behind. Countless people needed me, countless more feared me, I was born and raised a soldier.
I stared at the wall blankly; I could barely see anything. A war was being waged inside my soul, Sousuke vs. Sousuke. One born and raised a soldier, the other wanted to stay with Chidori, to begin a normal life along side this girl, but who would win. “Sousuke... Are you ok?” A quick tug at my shirt brought me back to reality; Kaname’s expression deeply touched me. She was concerned for me... If I did love this girl, wait, I don’t even fully understand the word or feeling of love. The closet thing to love was Kalinin, my so-called father figure in life.
Suddenly it hit me; I truly did want to spend the rest of my days with this girl, Kaname Chidori. With a smile I stared at Kaname, “of course I mean it Kaname,” I could never lie to her, “ I will always come back to you, no matter what the circumstances are.”
Kaname smiled, she popped up and gave me a quick peck on the cheek which left me bright red. She took my hand and stood up, “come on Sousuke, let’s head back before they come searching for us.” I agreed, Kaname would not like being caught in a Janitorial Facility with me at the moment.
Later on we decided that everyone should stay at the safe house for the night. I phoned Maya’s, Ren’s, and Kazama’s parents and informed them where they would be staying for the night. Kaname gave Mizuki an evil grin knowing that she would leave as soon as she saw Sousuke’s weapons room.
Mizuki decided to leave, she still hadn’t gotten over the involuntary kiss we shared. So Kurz and Mao pulled out folding mattresses for they safe houses guest. That night I would be in for a big surprise.
At about 23:41 I had finally managed to make it to my room. I decided to sleep on the bed instead of under it, just this one time. Five minutes later as I began to fall into a light slumber my door began to open. Quickly I rolled over to the other side of the bed and got on the floor. I grabbed my trusty Glock 17, holding the gun firm as I aimed at the door, staring into the pitch-black night.
“Sousuke, are you awake?” It’s Kaname, but why was she in my room this late at night. She was trembling, but there was nothing to be frightened of. I lowered my pistol and stood up straight, walking over to the closet I flipped on the light switch. “You are awake.”
“Yeah...” I made my way back to my bed, placing the handgun on the table next to the bed. Sitting on the mattress I glanced at Kaname. “Why are you up so late Kaname? It’s not healthy for a young woman such as yourself to be awake at this hour.”
She began the play with her hair, “I know Sousuke, I just needed to talk to you.”
“About what Kaname?”
Kaname strolled over to the bed and positioned herself next to me. “Just about stuff.” She gave me a big smile, it made me feel good inside to see here smile like that. “Sousuke, would you leave Mithril if you ever fell in love?”
“I don’t know Kaname, seeing as I have never had time to ‘fall in love’ I wouldn’t know what to do if I ever became entangled with my emotions.” She leaned on my shoulder, I felt compelled to place my arm around her but restrained myself from doing so.
An eerie silence befell the little room before Kaname finally spoke up. “Sousuke, I wanted to give you something before you left for Kyoto tomorrow.”
I was surprised that Chidori wanted to give me something at that moment. “What is it Kaname...” Out of the blue Kaname jumped on me, pinning me to the bed. “Kaname, what are you doing, I have gone through all my hand to hand combat training!”
She smiled, “my silly Otaku, this isn’t about training.” She closed her eyes, her face flushed red as her hair hid our faces from the world creating our own world where it was just Kaname and I. “Sousuke, I don’t think I could just tell you how I feel, I don’t think you would understand.”
Understand what, she had completely lost me at that point and I couldn’t follow where this was leading. She must have know how I felt because she began to giggle when she saw my facial expression. “Well Sousuke, here is my present to you.” She lowered herself onto my body, no longer hovering above me our bodies melted together. Her warmth sent waves of heat through out my body, I could no longer just ignore how I felt about her.
She smiled when she noticed I was blushing. “Hmmm. I hope you enjoy this as much as I will Sousuke.” Her hands cupped my face, this incredible warmth had over taken me again, was I suppose to feel this way about Kaname, wouldn’t it jeopardize my original mission. Just as I thought my emotions weren’t confusing me enough Kaname managed to cause my heart to go racing.
“Sousuke...” Her lips were gentle, they were warm, just as I had imagined them to be. Her body felt so frail in my arms, this Chidori seemed to be different... Could this be the real Kaname Chidori, finally broken free of her aggressive shell. My left hand slid through Kaname’s hair so smoothly, like a knife through hot butter.
It felt as though an eternity had past us by, I had the same sensation as I felt during my first time piloting Arbalest. If this was the person I would give up being a soldier for, then sign my papers and let me go. I knew Kaname and I had a special connection, it goes deeper then just some guy liking a girl... Could this be the love Cmdr. Kalinin talked to me about when I was younger, when he told me about his wife Mary.
Kaname finally pulled away for what seemed to be like an eternity and smiled, “so Sgt. Sagara, how did you like my present?” She began to draw circles on my chest, then put her head near my heart, “your heart is pounding Sousuke,” she grinned, “your cheeks are red as well, you must have loved my present.”
I nodded.
Kaname just smiled, “Sousuke, is it ok if I sleep here tonight?”
“Affirmative.”
I got out from under Kaname and told her to sit there. She giggled when I shut the door and locked it, and smiled when turned the lights off. I climbed back into bed, “Sousuke...”
“Yes Kaname?”
I could see here blushing even though the darkness had claimed the room once again, “your shirt is making me itchy, would you mind taking it off.”
“Roger.” I did as I was asked to, the shirt was gone, left alone on the floor. I felt Kaname press up against me, her skin was warm as well and I could feel her heart pounding through her chest.
“Sousuke,” Kaname whispered, “you will come back to me right?”
I smiled and kissed Kaname’s forehead, “I will always come back, whether I was ordered to or not.” My hand fumbled through the sheets and found Kaname’s hand, grasping it firmly I leaned over and whispered into her ear, “I will always come back to you Kaname.”
