Connor looked at the message on his cell phone. He rolled his eyes again. It was after practice and he had just finished showering and getting dressed. He had lagged behind again; he knew that he had to try harder. Connor looked at the message again, he was not in the mood to drive across town to pick up a package that had been delivered to the wrong place. How in the world had a package for him gotten to that side of town?
Connor jumped into his car and pealed out of the school parking lot. He was going to hear about this later from his parents. They always complained about how much gas he used up. Connor blared the music up so that it drowned out his thoughts. Connor’s red jeep was meant to roam free in Africa, not here in the suburbs of Chicago. Connor like his jeep wished there was more to his life than this town.
He pulled up in front of the building. It looked run down to him and dusty inside. Although the address numbers were the same as his house only they said WEST. Well that explains the mix up, Connor thought. He didn’t see any one in the front of the store but there was movement in the back. Connor walked in side and called out to see in any one was there.
“What a weird place.” He thought to himself as he took in his surroundings. “Hello, I got a call that there was a package here for me? Can you hear me back there?” Connor billowed into the back of the store.
Amber thrashed as Derek tied her arms behind the chair. Only moments ago another woman had appeared. She like the lady now tied up next Amber was much older, but this lady looked worse. Her skin was a dark brown from sitting in the sun and looked like leather to the touch. The wrinkles were deep set and looked more like cuts on her skin. She had blond hair that looked like it had taken one to many dies. Her eyes were the sky blue of Derek’s. She was the Sun Priestess.
“Stop struggling you little girl. We aren’t going to hurt you unless you force us to.” The Sun Priestess leaned in as if she was going to touch Amber.
“I wouldn’t touch her if I was you.” The Moon Priestess whispered, who was sitting next to Amber tied up. “You don’t want to contaminate your skin.” There was a dazzled in the Moon Priestess’s eyes that scared Amber a bit. But she had stopped struggling enough for Derek to get the ropes around her wrists.
“What do you mean by that you witch?” Derek screamed at the Moon Priestess.
“I mean that the Princess was marked by the sign of the moon long before you were able to cross from out world to this.” The Moon Priestess smiled in the away that some one did when they had won an argument. Amber’s eyes grew wide. She had a scar on her right shoulder blade that was shaped like that of a quarter moon, she was protected by the sign of the moon.
“Where is it?” Derek grabbed Amber by the neck so that if he wanted to he could choke her.
“You can’t change the scar even if you wanted to. She got it when she was a baby. No matter how you cut it, it wont look like a sun.” The Moon Priestess sounded content and mocked Derek’s attempts to change Amber to his warrior. The Sun Priestess grabbed her by the throat and started to squeeze.
“Of all the low things in the world a worm like you had to get to the Princess first.” The Sun Priestess was trying to choke the Moon Priestess.
“Unless you have forgotten, my people still are in favor with the majority of the gods. Even if you kill me, the Princess and the boy there is no way you will win.” The Moon Priestess said in the strained voice of some one being choked.
“What are you talking about witch?” Derek slurred letting go of Amber and moving closer to the Priestesses.
“Him.” The Moon Priestess pointed one figure in the direction of the front of the store. That’s when they heard Connor calling to the back. Derek’s eyes glowed to a dark color as if his anger was about to spurt out from his eyes.
“I will deal with you later.” Derek hissed and both the Moon Priestess and Amber. But his eyes lingered longer on Amber with something that wasn’t hatred; it was hard to tell. Then he headed to the front of the store. Amber didn’t like where this was going. Derek could easily snap Connor in half or worse. She looked worriedly at the Moon Priestess who just winked at her. The Sun Priestess had gone into the other room to get something; Amber was worried.
Then the Moon Priestess started to do something strange, she started to chant. It started out soft and grew stronger. There was a smashing sound from the front. It sounded like breaking glass and then there was a thud. Amber couldn’t see what had happened, she was near sighted and didn’t have her glasses. But the Moon Priestess carried on. Suddenly the Sun Priestess returned and when she heard what the Moon Priestess was chanting she ran wildly toward her. But it was too late, there was a brilliant flash of light and then they were gone. Leaving the Sun Priestess with and empty room and Derek laying flat on the ground with a bump on his head. They had vanished into thin air.
