Mao drawing

Hey, it's been awhile since I've drawin anything and I wanted to get back into it, I just didn't know who I should start off with. I chose Mao just cuz. I'm trying to change the drawing from anime/cell shading, into an actual believable real-life person. Its taking a bit of time, so far only the line drawing is coming together. Eyes are a bit off And I will be fixing them.
Critiques?

whenever getting back to drawing for me I eyed a picture or scan that was originally done. What I would do is try drawing a "face frame" in which outlines the nose and eyes and a whole. From that point you will know how big the eyes have to be in reference to the lines you drew.
I hope this does not confuse in anyway. I am going to do a how to draw tutorial on my DA page, I hope to do it this weekend.
Originally you would want to map out the face 1st, then do the hair, then the body, because you don't want a body that makes the head look small. (thats my preference, but everyone is different on that)
Though from your drawing it seems like you do good human type eyes, however (if your going for it) anime eyes are a bit harder to do, due to the curves and the reference to what gender the curves portray.

Actually, anime and real life arn't all that different (at least in most 'normal' anime styles.) The anatomy is basically the same. The only difference is the head/hair/facial features (oh and can't forget the breastesses
). I still have to tweak the face to get it to look right, its getting there but still not quite. Also I do have a dA page
http://mailleartisan83.deviantart.com/ The current 4 gallery displays are from my fan fic, if you go click the gallery button you'll see I do draw a bit, so I know what I'm doing, its anime>realistic which I sometimes have trouble with. (Though I did ask for critique, so Thanks!)

Yar! I finally got a chance to work on this this weekend as I am stuck on writing a lab report so I decided to take a break from it. Here is my update on it, working on the uniform now, I'm employing a Top - down, Left-right approach, as since the uniform is so dark I don't want to smear it. Which will be a challenge, I do have a piece of paper under my hand to protect the drawing, but that moves as well sometimes.
The hair didn't turn out at all the way I wanted it too, too orderly for Mao
but I guess I'll have to deal with it...

as a basic drawing guide. Hope to see you further refine this drawing Ender!

Ye ask and ye shall recieve, after turning in my bios lab report (which was around 22 pages with graphs and tables) I had some free time. (Not much as I have math HW due tomorrow...
But here is an updated one, I need to add a bit more shadow to her face where the hair casts a shadow, I gotta fix up the helmet. I hope to have this finished before the end of the week. But that soudns too optimistic, still working on the right boob ^^'

Got the base shading done on the torso, gotta make the shading more gradual and add in the highlights. I'm planning on putting in a background any suggestions?
