FMP! AMV Work in Progress -- Abandoned?

Click the link for the partially reconstructed AMV.

As many of you know, I'm making a FMP! AMV. For the song, I'm doing something fairly different, and actually using one of the show's themes, in this case "Kanenai Hana," the closing theme. I'm planning on using the ADV translation, and am going to use DVD source for the first season. I'm not using anything from Fumoffu--it just wouldn't mesh. (Until the first season is totally released, I'm using fansubs as placeholders to make sure I like the "flow.")

I plan to host the video as it develops, so I can get feedback on what I've actually done to date.

The credits (show, song, etc.) I'm also going to credit this board. I'm planning to mix and match from the closing sequences. Wow, an actual use for the clean opening and closings.

Please only quote the appropriate lines you have ideas for, though that should go unsaid. Feel free to suggest an alternative idea. Let's make this the video other fandoms can only hope to live up to!

Without further ado, here are my ideas to date.

Credits, no music

~Opening Instrumental~

* Sousuke's attempt to use the dating sim

Kokoro ni, chiisana, hana ga, saiteru,
Kimi kara, moratta, karenai hana ga,
A small flower is blooming inside my heart,
The unwithering flower you gave to me,
* Conversation at the train station in episode 2, where Kaname calls Sousuke an "odd bird"

Shinjiru koto mo, kowagaranai kurai,
Tsuyoku nareta kara...
I was able to believe strongly enough in myself,
So I'm not afraid anymore...
* the scene at the end of the "Toybox" arc, where Sousuke is reassuring Kaname that he needs her and she isn't a burden.

Kimi ni aete, ureshikatta...
Tsunaida te ga, hokoridatta,
I was happy meeting you,
And proud of our holding hands,
* The end of Episode 9, where Kaname goes to Sousuke's apartment to apologize for her behavior, and brings food. I made it a point to capture his smile, before he panics. ;-)

Ima wa, betsubetsu no sora, miagete itemo,
Hora, arukeru...hitori demo...
Even though we look up to different skies now,
See? I can walk on my own now...
* Kaname walking on the beach in ep 15, the ambulance in the background

~Instrumental Interlude~
* short clips of Mao and Kurtz, then Kaname, and finally Sousuke

Kanashii, toki hodo, warau, watashi o,
Nani mo, iwanai de, daite kureta ne,
I laugh more during sad times,
To hide the pain I feel inside,
* Kaname waking up after dreaming of the kidnapping, feeling depressed and her and Sousuke looking at their favorite pictures
* Kaname's reaction to the jewelry in episode 9

Koori tsuita douaga, sotto hiraku you na,
Sonna, kigashita yo...
But you hugged me gently without saying a thing
I felt as if it were like opening a door frozen in ice...
* The hallway scene at the end of the "Homeland" arc. His surprise and happiness at seeing her waiting for him is perfect for these lines.

Kimi ni aete, ureshikatta...
Kodoku sae mo, wakachi aeta,
I was happy meeting you,
Even though I could only share my loneliness,
* Melissa and Kurtz rough-housing, and Sousuke watching in confusion.

Ima mo, kono sora no shita, tsunagatte iru to,
Sou, omoeru...hanarete mo...
Even though we're separated now,
I still feel that we're somehow connected under this sky...
* This might be a better place to put Sousuke's realization that he cares for her as a friend and does not want her hurt at the end of episode 4.

~Instrumental Interlude~

Help Me!

Arigato mo, ienakatta...
Yakusoku sae, dekinakatta,
I didn't say thank you...
I couldn't even promise...
* Kaname crying over Sousuke's picture of his comrades

Dakedo, ano hi to onaji, kaze ga fuitara,
Mata, kanarazu...aeru yo ne...
However, like on that day, if the wind blows
Then I know we will surely meet again...
* When they're laughing and smiling at his fishing hole.

Kimi ni aete, ureshikatta...
Tsunaida te ga, hokoridatta,
I was happy meeting you,
And proud of our holding hands,
* Kaname's sheer happiness at seeing him at the end of Episode 7, when, based on what Melissa tells her, she won't ever see Sousuke again.

Ima wa, betsubetsu no sora, miagete itemo,
Hora, arukeru...hitori demo...
Even though we look up to different skies now,
See? I can walk on my own now...
* Gulls at end of ep 24, maybe starting where they start panning away from the pair

~Instrumental interlude~
* montage of important events

Taurec,

Don't scare me like that--I thought my post had been lost, not post-it-noted.
Kimi ni aete, ureshikatta...
Kodoku sae mo, wakachi aeta,
I was happy meeting you,
Even though I could only share my loneliness
I'm sure Kurtz and Weber could easily fit in here, don't you think? I'll find a scene where Melissa and Kurtz are rough-housing, and Sousuke is just looking at them in confusion. Plenty of those to pick from. ;)

Personally, I draw the line at Tessa, though.

Think it's a beautiful idea there PookaK. I think I've got an idea
on how you can do this on the technical side.. whited out because
it's rather involved Chop the clips you need out of the
DVD and string them together as you wanted, but take a program like
VirtualDubMod so you can combine the video, music AND the subs
(in this case, a plain-text SRT file) into an OGM or MKV file. Essentially,
the subs will be there, but not hard-coded into the video... probably
doesn't make sense, but I'm VERY sure this'll work for what you want

...on the creative side though, THUMBS UP ALL AROUND!!
now too bad Tessa can't have a role, but that's your decision

Actually, putting it together isn't that bad. Adobe didn't make Premiere as confusing as they usually make things, but that might just be because I have the user's guide. :) Even better, the previous owner (and it's legally mine in Adobe's eyes, once they process the change of license form) included a how-to training book for the prior version of the software. With Premiere, it's easier to sync the clips to the lyrics, and I can use transistions to make the changes look less choppy. When it's totally done, I can sub it with Subtitle Workshop, which was recommended here. I also don't trust whoever is doing the showing to figure out how to turn on the subtitles. :-o Don't want to take the chance of them showing my entry without them. "Subtitles: Don't leave home without them."

Ya just tell whoever's at the other end "make SURE you have (this) or
us (this player) to do it." Personally, I'd go with an OGM file... tell them
to install two files that'll handle playback OGM + the subs and DONE!

...then agian, you make it idiot-proof, they make a better idiot

Best wishes on this project

Anyone have any ideas for me? I have my ideas listed in the opening post, and I just updated it. When things calm down at school and I get a bit more than 2 clips integrated, I'll render what part of the video I have done, and put it on the web somewhere.

Whats you overall theme?

Without a general direction, it is difficult for anyone to give you ideas.

Oh and the Sousuke smile is in Episode 2 at about 00:19:15:00 to about 00:19:17:00.

Sousuke's personal evolution through the series, along with Kaname's.

* If I can pull it off without it looking too bad, I want to do side by side clips from the "Homeland" arc. I'm sure I can find an appropriate bit of Kaname being moody at his absence, and of him looking equally moody.
not in any order

1) The clip at the end of Episode 15, where it fades from souske's face inside the ARX to Kaname is walking down the road as an ambulance passes by.

2) Same ep, 00:06:06:00 Sousuke in the globemaster

3) Kaname walking alone across the beach and fades away in episode 15. 00:18:15:00

oh it's only 68Mb :)

There is alot of dialog going on in the scenes you picked ...
it's a bit odd to see that ... ?

God what a tedious task you started ...
