Welcome welcome
Since everyone is stating thier views, I may as well state mine.
Regarding Sousuke's blushing while with tessa:
It can also be read as Suosuke not knowing how to deal with a female ranking officer who is a bit more aggressive with her feelings and not necessarily due to any lovey dovey feelings on his part. Sousuke has the social skills of a rock when it comes to anything beyond a militiary enviornment. He's more comfortable with Kaname, because of how his relationship started (being nothing more than a mission) and Kaname is nowhere as aggressive in the relationship department as Tessa. Also note that he smiles alot more when Kaname's around than with Tessa.
Regading the Anime/Novels/Manga:
They are all the same story, but told different ways. The major themes will always be the same, even though some of the minor themes are different. Key characters that die, will die, for example. Maybe at a different point, or in a different way, but they will die.
I'll leave it at this, since I can go on till the day after forever.

I think it was pretty obvious by the end of the anime series who Sousuke would end up with. But I'll be the first to say that I was rooting for Tessa the entire time. While Kaname was the obvious ending, I did sort of feel that Tessa would have been better for him.
I like Kaname well enough as a character, but I don't like how she interacts with Sousuke much at all. She doesn't even try to understand why he does do these things. Ms. Chidori attempts to change or tame him without ever trying to imagine what his life has been like. When he can't show up at study session, she can't think to herself. "Sousuke was off on a mission, putting his own life on the line."
Sousuke is attracted to Tessa, probably more so than he is to Kaname (as he never reacts to the same degree in such situations with Kaname.) Tessa has a calmer personality. She is part of the military, so she can understand what Sousuke does. I really thought the best episode for their relationship was when he was training her how to use an arm slave. Not just the physical attraction he felt, but also when they were discussing plans. While Tessa was giving an in-depth of her ideas, it was very clear that Sousuke gained a lot of respect for her.
This might be a stupid way to look at this, but there is a fold-out picture in the 2nd FMP manga. On one page is Sousuke holding a gun in the foreground, and the other has him holding a schoolbook. It is his military life vs. civilian. The people in the background are set up in a way that looks like: Kalinin=School president guy, Mao=Kyouko, Kurz=Kazuma, and Tessa=Kaname. So it is though the choice between the two girls is choosing between the two lives he has. (Which also explains my liking of SousukeXTessa -- I find the military aspects of FMP! more interesting than the high school ones.)
If we're going with male candidates, of course, we have Gauron. (that was a joke -- just a joke.)

I think you're wrong about the whole aspects of Kaname and Sousuke.
In DVMC Ch04B, Sousuke and Kaname come to grips with their feelings for each other. For Kaname, she realises something: the dialogue between Sousuke and Al is in many ways like Her and Sousuke.
Sousuke also has an epiphany, and realizes that he cares for Kaname... and then it's interrupted by combat with the Astorals.

How so? I said that in my opinion, Kaname doesn't treat Sousuke very fairly. She often gets angry at him instead of understanding. However, my regard for their relationship went up during the last anime (of the original series), when Kaname admits herself that she doesn't really know him.I think you're wrong about the whole aspects of Kaname and Sousuke.
I really started liking Sousuke/Tessa after reading the later novels (which haven't been made into anime yet.) There are lots of gushy S/K moments, but I thought he was most touching when he told Tessa that she's a "wonderful girl" and much more than his commanding officer.
So while I like and acknowledge Sousuke/Kaname, I do have more empathy for Tessa.
But really, the chase and competition is so much more fun than seeing an actual established relationship. Was I the only one who loved the Fumofu episodes with Tessa visiting the high school, and the two girls arguing?

I'm very sympathetic to Tessa. Especially in DVMC. She'd got a lot of responsibility and a lot of insecurities regarding her work. She's also getting of the opinion that her subordinates don't respect her and consider her a burden. Then to top it off, she becomes painfully aware that she's fighting a losing battle for the affections of the man she loves. At least Sousuke and Kaname have that. Right now, Tessa is very short-changed. No, I don't see her as having much of a chance with Sousuke, but I hope before this story is over she gets some kind of victory to regain her confidence.

...this is sure to reignite the Tessa / Kaname's Better argument anew...
Tessa & Sousuke all the way... mostly cuz I'm a sucker for the 'Next To A Snowball's Chance In Hell of Happening' kinds of romances. Tho I wouldn't
mind a crack at Tessa myself...
prefer? An interrogation by the Soviet Secret Police? Or watching Tessa & Kaname
duke it out over you?

Lol...I'm not sure.
I... it was as if something just squished inside me when Tessa, the captain, went to make coffee because she was 'out of place', and got annoyed with the maid uniform, even though before the mission, she'd been playing 'dress up' - I think that moment was exceptionally well done, I've rarely ever felt that much empathy for a character in a book before. I'm so glad she ran into that Arnold Schwarzenegger instead of guilttripping and getting depressed, it really added some relief.
Anyway, that made me realize that both Kaname and Tessa are flawed characters like Sousuke. Before, I'd been thinking it was just Kaname, and Tessa was being unreasonable, but yeah, that dressup-thing made it seem as if Tessa was completely out of place on that sub, and not being allowed to be a child.
Kaname is obviously flawed, and in a much more traditional sense, hurting the guy she kinda likes over and over. Even though she's just a normal girl, she's just as much of an idiot as Sousuke quite often, and that's perhaps why I enjoy the Sousuke - Kaname relationship so much. They're idiots. It's relaxed. It's lighthearted. It's good fun.
With Tessa...I unno. Tons of emotions, the only really funny stuff being how Sousuke has to try to relate to her advances. I don't see a relationship between the two of them being neither as interesting nor as funny. More than anything, I hope Tessa manages to straighten things out with her crew a little..
As to who Sousuke likes, he's obviously supposed to be torn at some point. It's a 'love-triangle' after all. But yeah, he's got the crush on Kaname.
Though I'd vote 'merry the AI after giving it a female voice' - the perfect partner - it slices, it dices, it tells jokes and has build in kareoke.

Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?
