English voice acting gripe

I just got my FMP dvds in the mail, so no more low-res buggy mpeg files for me YAY! I can clear entire gigs of space off my hard drive!! HOWEVER.....

OH MY GOD I HATE THE ENGLISH VOICE ACTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!

What is the matter with ADV?!?!?!?! The dub of Excel Saga was excellent, what the hell went wrong???? Every time someone says "Chid-o-ri" instead of "Chi-do-ri" in the dub I shudder, then want to hit the voice actor, it's barely bearable!!! And what's with Sousuke's voice actor anyway???? Blargh! A tenor? Good God. Some people seem to be spot on, like Kalinin (Kabapu anyone?) and some are tolerable, like Kyoko (Hyatt!) But others like Kaname's voice..... ooooooh..... that woman needs to learn how to actually put some emotion into her voice!!!! I'm normally a dub person but DAMN, I can't believe I'm saying this but I like the sub so much more!!!!!!

SO.... AGGRIVATED.... *BIG VEIN POP* that should be a emoticon, so I could make it size 36 font! maybe I'll make one....... If Madam Dictator will deign to add it that'd be great. I could fill an entire screen on the rage page with them.

Ok... had to get that out of my system..... I just HAVE to learn Japanese so I can appreciate to the fullest extent how sexy Sousuke's voice is in the original, because the English voice actor makes me want to SCREAM!!!

Yeah, I had a few of those probs with the dub. The whole Chidori thing... I really don't like English pronounciations of Japanese names. I always go for how it is originally pronounced.

And yes, the 'Kaname' thing. When I first watched it I was so pissed off at that. "Sousuke doesn't call her 'Kaname'. He's not that kind of guy!!" The only time Sousuke would call her by her first name would be in a tender moment *tries to remember if in the Japanese version he ever did use her first name*. And as I remember in the dub (I could be wrong) Kaname called him by his first name too early. One of the best things about the Japanese version was her calling him Sagara-kun until the scene at the hospital and then her crying while shouting "Sousuke!" when he appears. FMP! does place a lot of focus upon names, like most high school shows, and unfortuntely these extra factors are often lost in dubs.

I don't really mind most of the actors, but I just Tomokazu Seki as Sousuke. He just has such an amazing voice. One minute I think the English actor is being too emotional, the next not emotional enough. I think if perhaps another Japanese actor had done Sousuke, his English voice wouldn't seem so off, but ask Tomo is perfect in every line, it hurts the dub.

I do get pissed at the fact everyone sounds American when Dannan is a multicultural ship. They could have at least made Mardukas sound English as he is one of the main characters.

Oh, yes. I do love Kalinin's English voice. Though my boyfriend is a BIG fan of Excel Saga so anytime I watch the English dub I here him chuckling in the background

She's such an inspired choice for the part of Tessa! She's got childlike immediately down pat for her work in RahXephon and Nadesico but now she's also got adult!

It's scrumptious!

The tenor voice for Sosuke also works because it reminds us he's a boy not an unbelievable killing machine.

I admit I hate the mispronunciation too but whatcha gonna do.

Yeah, i like Tessa's voice in the dub. (Good luck to HH in Chrno Crusade) After watching fumoffu and the same episodes in japanese i realised that Sousuke's VA wasn't quite as good as i originally thought, but oh well.
