Just curious on your opinion. I'm halfway through the Second Raid and its doing some pretty questionable stuff.

Ethics I suppose.

The organization was portrayed as a group designed to put down terrorist plots and preserve world stability but the torture scene made me uncomfortable. Plus, the causalness of discussing Kaname makes me think they're plotting to kidnap her as a resource.

Why they would need to kidnap her as they already have her on they side. Kaname has helped them so many times and even been in they base that surely they could recruit her if they wanted.

I don't think that Mithril is going to the darkside. I have yet to see the Second Raid but if they need to use extreme methods to get information then that is a part of many organizations like the FBI or CIA. It is not a pretty thing that they do but sometimes there is no other course of action.

Now to Mithril kidnapping Kaname I do not think that would happen. It would lead to them losing valuable people in their ranks. I am sure that Sousuke, Melissa, Kurz, and a few others would more than like try to leave after of course freeing Kaname. However that is a very unlikely turn of events because all they would need to do is just ask Kaname to join them. She is almost already part of Mithril now.

Well, realize, that after Read or Die and lots of Gundam fandom, I'm fairly used to the heroes starting with an organization only to later have it turn out to be evil.

Hell, even American TV did it with alias.

It is true that those series did have the good organization go bad. I kind of hope that Mithril will stay good because that would be different. Also it would be better for the characters. We will just have to see what they might do after the Second Raid.

imho Mithril minions are a bunch of hypocrites ... and this hasn't got to do with me being Leonards lawyer. <g>

Instead of sharing black tech .. they use it for their own purposes.
History has shown that when a organisation/country (usa) has the superior toys they eventually end up invading other countries (maybe under false pretence)
Besides, Power corrupts ne ne ne.
Atleast Almagam is willing to share...But nooo Mithril doesn't like a open market.

Not to mention when Tessa fired a few missiles on that ... What was it? drugs lab? They probably killed a few with a push on a button and why should Mithril be allowed to play God, Judge, Jury and Executioner?

Then there is that torture .... I assume they were questioning him in a safe house they borrowed from their CIA pals

... but does that make it right?

Imho one "world police" is more then enough.

So is Mithril good or bad? .. I would say they are Naughty.

Though I can see why they don't want black tech getting public. At the same time, they themselves need to keep in check. Which they have done so far, for the most part...

The one thing that we haven't seen in the Anime, is who is running Mithril. I mean who is the "head cheese" of the whole shebang. They must have one big pedigree to be able to make the president of the US get on the phone to make the Navy back off (Last fews eps of the first season). Something along the lines of the ones controlling world history in Mahoromatic's 2nd season. An underground organization which may actually be backing both sides of the equation (ala Madlax), in order to bring about the true secrets of Black Technology (things that make the LD look like a childs toy).

Such a thing would lead into the possibility of (*GASP*) Amalgam and Mithril joined up to defeat it. (We must stop them from turning all living things on earth into cans of spam......

)

That would be an interesting premise.

Its all a matter of perception. A common phrase is "A terrorist to one man is a freedom fighter to another."

I believe they are good, they fight against illegal activities and try to quell anything that might cause tension or more conflict between countries.

I beleive they have good intentions, but they are fairly hippocritical. However Amalgam is the true evil, creating disputes in order to test weaponry. At least Mithril help countries etc.
