All Sousuke's gotten lately is "salt on his wounds". His comrades are basically coming up to him and saying "You suck" or "You idiot" in a more harsher tone. The only person who has faith in him now is Kaname and he was pulled away from her! If he didn't have such a tough personality, I think there's a good chance he might just feel exactly the same way as the following paragraph:

I for one am pained to watch Sousuke in this episode. The whole root of the problem is the lambda driver and he can't use it, but it feels like he isn't even trying even though he is trying in the only way he knows how. I think Clouzot is freakin awesome but I really wanted Sousuke to kick his butt with the lambda driver. I knew that wasn't going to happen though because he is clueless as to how to make it work. It's like cheering for your favorite team even though you know they are going to lose. It's kinda frustrating.
