*sj4iy throws in her two cents on the subject*

I like the new artstyle better than the previous manga...it looks more like the original novel artwork, as well as the anime artwork. And the story follows pretty well so far, even if Bluno is a chick.

I'm a fish out of water, a human without air, a Sousuke in Jindai High School...when it comes to the novels and manga of Full Metal Panic! I've been seeing a few posts about "wraith" and "Sigma". I don't know what/who they are. Can someone help me? I know that the anime Full Metal Panic! follows the novels, and I think FUMOFFU also does...but does the manga from ADV follow the anime? Sorry, I know more about the animes of Full Metal Panic! and Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU then the other mediums because I've never read a whole novel or manga.

No problem!

Check this link for some info on getting ahold of some of the novel translations. They are also translating Sigma.

:In the beginning:

(serious plot) Novels + (comedy) Short story collections

:spawned:

the FMP! manga (blends the serious and comedic into 1 storyline)

This manga ended recently, at the same point in the story line that the first FMP! anime series ends.

A new manga series, FMP! Sigma, has started in Japan and is picking up with the next major plot after where the anime ended (ie, where the fan translations start)

:after the manga began:

came the anime-
FMP! + The Second Raid come from the Novels
Fumo from the short stories

FMP! included a few of the funny short stories, but it isn't quite the blend that the manga is.

Overall, so far, both the manga and the anime are more or less consistent with the main elements of the story in the novels. It's now gonna be fun (IMO) to directly compare the new anime and manga with the novels (courtsey Boku-tachi!)

There are a few things that are so far absent- such as 'Wraith'. 'Wraith' is a mystery character, and had apparently been assigned to be Kaname's 'true' Mithril guardian. 'Wraith' had been left out of the anime and manga so far, for reasons I'm personally not sure of yet. (speculation about the anime having been intended to end with 1 series)
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

Wow, thank you! That explains a lot about the Full Metal Panic! series overall. I have yet to explore the novel and manga of the Full Metal Panic series. I can attain knowledge and the manga itself of Full Metal Panic! the easiest of novel and manga cause the nearest Barns and Nobles has it, in english. The novels would take longer because I can't read Japanese, wish I could. I never heard of "Wraith" before, showing that I have the most experience with the anime it seems.

If you click the link Jae supplied and have read it ..
You would have found out that the novels shouldn't pose a problem anymore since they are (being) translated.

Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Sorry, I did read it before, but I didn't get it. Before joining the forum, I was aquiring knowledge from this site, and found out of the novels of Full Metal Panic series. So, that would explain my complete incompetence on the novels of Full Metal Panic. The animes are the most familiar topic to me of the Full Metal Panic series, so the novels and manga are a totally new thing I need to learn about.

....I wanna see this guy draw more M9's...when it first appeared, I think I fell in love...it's so beautiful...

good chapter, I dig the style...it's a lot more direct, and it only really shows what really matters...but the action drawings are nowhere near as deep, they're pretty flat by comparison to the old manga.

But yeah, this chapter was far better than the first one.
Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?

Actually, it was all chapter 1, but just broken up into two parts by the scanlators.

Oookay, time for my usual nitpicky self to butt in. Just some minor things about the translation:

Frame 36: "I might have been (insert "a") little jealous just now..."

Frame 40: "What ("Was") that our last rocket just now!?"

Okay, now to assess the half-chapter itself. Art-wise... Is that Gauron in frame 50?! :-o (It sure looks like him, even if it isn't... and Clouzot's/Cruzo's/Clouseau's ( :-P ) M9 seems to have an elongated neck and dislocated arm in frames 55-56, but it could just be me. The action scenes were incredible, although I suppose they could have done the uncloaking a bit more dramatically - but we all know the limitations of pen and paper.

I'd keep complaining about how the two Chinese guys suddenly became Chinese girls and then even more suddenly became blondes... but hot chicks are always good for morale. I wonder, though, if they're going to leave in the introspective bit about Sousuke's drifting between two worlds later. I hope they do.

I got to read the new manga myself finally. I've been without Internet for the last two months so I haven't been around.

I'm not really sure if I like the idea of all the villians in the story being turned into girls. Making Bluno a female and putting her in that scene with Mao felt gratuitous to me. As for the two Chinese assassins, they remind me of Shampoo's twin little sisters in Ranma 1/2. "That one Kashim what dishonor father Gauron! Now we kill you and pervert girl Kaname too!"

Seriously though, in the novel, when Kaname was fighting for her life, you could really feel the terror she had and the courage she put forth to face this tough, emotionless, hardened killer. Now she'll be facing off against a little girl. Her perception seems to be less intimidating to me.

As for the rest of the manga, I'm not enjoying it quite as much as the original manga, but it's still pretty good. The drawing isn't nearly as crisp or refined, but if it's a good read, I can overlook it. I've heard it said that it looks more like the original novel and anime, but I disagree with that too. But then, I don't think the anime looks like the novel either. Hell, I don't even think the novels look like the novels from some pictures to others.

Otherwise, they're keeping a lot of the internalization from the novels, which I'm glad to see.

In any case, thank you to Brandi and Boku-Tachi for bringing it to us. :D

*kicks Weltall's patootie* And I thought I was gone for a long time... :-D

Yeah, having too many women can be annoying (no offence intended, ladies). Actually, the gender of the assassins wouldn't have been too much of a problem as long as they managed to look and be threatening... but I doubt it's going to happen. Having a pair of loligoths after you might be disturbing, but it's hardly scary, especially considering how little time the original assassins got to kick ass in the novels.

Heh, if you ask me, cute girl assassins are the scariest kind out there. They're more apt to be sick, twisted and demented when it comes to killing their prey...especially in anime ^^

That's true. Now if they had the Boku-Tachi girls as assassins... look out.
