Ok... How did Leonard deflect the knife Yu Lan threw at him? As far as I looked, he kept both his hands down and even the astrals just stood by. This is itching me quite a bit!

He extended his AT Field.

He had a tiny little Lambda Driver in his pocket.

He rubbed his feet on carpet and his coat surged with static electricity.

Or... [ecs]he's got some kind of reactive shield built into his coat. It seems that it can stop at least thrown knives and bullets. We don't know what else.[/ecs]

Kaname became a little over protective at one point but I guess that is
Sagara's Influence, since he would have shot a fly that looked suspicious..
She learned fast from sagara that self-defence weapons are good to have
in arms lenght ya never know when u have to use em..

Yu Lan was cool. though her shooting accuracy seemed to lack on the rainy days.. or maybe it was her period...
anyways that DAMN Leonard.. wtf did he have to make em kill her..
that can't even be called "a real fight to the death.." more like using a big canon against a pair of chopsticks..

Yeah, I noticed that too. She was a really great shot, but now she sucked. It wasn't even like Kaname was moving all that fast.

Kaname did have one nice move when she was falling off the building though. She at least had the presense of mind to kick off the wall and land in that stack of stuff.

Well, my question still stands... surely theres a better explanation since we see some kind of cloak sweeping the knife away?

period if she was so good stalking and tracking Kaname... unless she
was playing with her. And consider her admission to Leonardo about
how'd she kill Kaname.

Yes, Leonard's coat blocked/swept the knife aside. He's got a bullet proof version of it too (in COMO).

As for why Yu Lan can't hit Kaname, I don't believe she's such a great shot to begin with. So I'm gonna do a length analysis for you guys to clear this up.

When she shot the SRT operative in the head in the Nanjing episode, the guy was no more than 15 feet away. Then at about the same distance she fires 2 shots at Mao. One shot hits Mao's shoulder (almost a miss), and the other shot would've hit Mao in the chest if her gun didn't block it. Now, those were the only times she used a gun before this episode 9.

Now in ep9, she first shoots Wraith in the side, and then in the head; but we never saw how far away from him she was when she fired. She could've been just 5 feet away behind the wall, on the ledge.

Then she takes aim at Chidori, who's about 30 feet away (twice the distance of the SRT operative target), and barely misses Chidori's head with the first shot (it slices through her hair).

The gun jams so Chidori runs behind the water tank. Yu Lan then fires 3 more shots at her without getting a clear line-of-fire. She fire 2 more shots after Chidori jumps behind the wall. She then jumps on the wall to fire at Chidori, who's half hidden behind the corner, 2 shots, at about 25 feet away.

Her last shot is at Chidori, who's lying on the ground and completely exposed at a distance of I'd say at least 18 feet away, the height of the wall on the roof is about 3 feet and judging from that, her fall was about 15 feet. She kicked off the wall and bounced a bit on the landing for a distance of about 10 feet away from the wall. Pythagorean theorem gives us about 18 feet as the distance to the target. And what does Yu Lan do? She misses. If you slow the video, you can see the path of the bullet, it was aimed at her head and barely missed Chidori's face.

So in conclusion: Yu Lan only had 2 clear shots at Chidori: the first shot, and the last shot. They were both at least 18 feet away and she aimed at her head. A smaller target to hit than the torso. Yu Lan also used a silencer this time (she didn't in Nanjing) so that may have affected her performance. Yu Lan was too cocky. She decides to waste 7 out of 9 bullets on shots that are not clear (total of 11 bullets but the first 2 were spent on Wraith). She could've ran closer to Chidori to shoot her at a closer range. She could've use 2 hands to hold the gun for better stability. She could've aimed for the torso instead of the head.

Just like what Sousuke said, "Only a third rate person would lick his lips in front of his prey." Hate to say it, but Yu Lan was being a noob and licking her pretty lips in front of Chidori.

Hai, ii shitsumon desu.

If Yu Lan really did attend class and remember her pistol-killing training, she obviously didn't put that to good use here. So the writers decided to nerf her skills for this Kaname job.

Which isn't that big of a plot hole. It's very possible that Yu Lan decides to toy with Kaname first. Kaname's a civilian, she see no threat from her.

Kaname's not a heavily armed SRT operative that needs a carefully aimed shot to the head because if Yu Lan misses, she might not have a second shot. But for Kaname, she can miss her first shot and still shoot at her again.

Kaname's not a soldier with an assualt rifle that require her quick reflex and speed to cut into pieces. Yu Lan even decides to have a knife duel with Mao when I'm pretty sure she still has bullets left in her pistol.

Yu Lan's obviously someone who's very confident of her skills and grossly underestimates Kaname's ability to run and think. So Yu Lan was just playing with Kaname, is a very good explaination on why her aim sucked. But that just means she's unprofessional, which is still believable because this is an assassination job for personal vengence, she wanted Kaname to suffer more. Personal revenge gets in the way of professionalism. So unprofessional and toying with Kaname = licking her lips in front of her prey = "third rate" assassin = being a noob.

She decided to ignore her training, due to personal reasons and bad judgement of her target, and she lost. Not much a plot hole here.

Well, Wraith probably had a contingency plan in case his/her "face" was seen... But even that failed since the mask was peeled off

I wonder if it's only a mask Wraith is wearing, who knows we may find out...
