I thought that was exactly what happened...that part did seem quite cliche to me (saw it coming a mile off), but that doesn't mean I like it any less ^^. But for me, Sousuke's inner monologue was the best part of the chapter. Finally we see that he's making a decision based on his emotions, and not on logic. True, it's probably a dumb decision to make, and he realizes this, but he goes with it nonetheless b/c he can no longer deny his feelings. Rock on ^^Gunner wrote:It was very nice to see Kurz take the lead, and even though the results were not as ideal as they could have been, at least it avoided the typical cliche "high stakes, one shot deal motivates the character to make a more godly shot than ever possible".

I was talking about his first shot. The one he believed was impossible. From what I gathered, the second shot he took was different because the Behemoth was closer since it was attacking him. From my interpretation, Kurz was in a different location than he was previously because he had to dodge the Behemoth's firepower, and the Behemoth was closer because it realized his position and attacked. I could be wrong however, since I did read it quickly, and have yet to go back and reread, but it did seem to me like the second shot was not as difficult.
I'm not surprised that [ecs]Spake bit the dust[/ecs], honestly, but seeing it happen all in just two chapters makes me feel a little... I don't know, less moved. Doesn't change the fact that we've just seen another man [ecs]die, and probably not the last[/ecs].
[ecs]RIP, Spake. All is forgiven.[/ecs]
(Do I really need spoiler tags here?) (actually you don't but it's nice for those who didn't find the time yet to read it.)
And yeah, Sousuke's starting to use his heart instead of his head. Which, given the circumstances, is a questionable decision. After all, only one man can make the impossible possible.

Heh, don't all Japanese stories have cliffhangers? -> [ecs]I think the most shocking thing for me was the Arbalest asking Sousuke not to leave it- really rather sad. So was Hayashimizu's conversation with Sousuke. Although I did crack up at the school's evacuation. Nice to have a little humor in there.[/ecs]

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

The school evacuation was the only bright spark in the entire chapter.
I suppose we're all betting on Kalinin to be the traitor, following his strange behaviour at the end of DVMC. Next thing you know, he'll sacrifice himself in the penultimate installment to show that he was loyal all along. But then again...
No need to ecs a speculation and Him acting strange is not a DVMC spoiler - K

I don't this that is the case. But it may be that Kalinin suspects who the traitor is has no was of proving it (yet) and doesn't/can't let anyone that he is investigating. Which in turn is to keep his investigation from being discovered, which would be the case if the leak is higher up or in a position which would put himself and others in danger. (This sounds more Kalanin-ish).
Something to think about.

Whoops, got carried away there. And yes, it's just speculation, but I get this feeling that we're supposed to think Kalinin's a traitor.
I do hope Kurz doesn't bite it. The idiot still needs to antagonise Grouseaux/Clouzot/what's-his-face and make Staff Sergeant. Or Sergeant Major. Or something. Given his current "suicidal intent", though, it's hard to say.

Good point. (and typical bait-and-switch plot device )Pyrite wrote:I get this feeling that we're supposed to think Kalinin's a traitor.
