Has anyone else seen this highly amusing series? While being based off the video game, it appears to have highly orginal characters and animation substantially different from that its peers. Soundtrack is pretty good as well. 52 episodes supposedly in total.
It seems to be very tongue in cheek, and kinda whimsical. While the first ep is somewhat boring, the action quickly picks up from there.
It's not ecchi, it's not particulary serious, and is pretty damn crazy/funny. Nevertheless, highly enjoyable, and alotta fun to watch. Hero idealism is present throughout the episodes I've seen 1-6, but it doesn't appear to be childish, or foolish. Viewtiful Joe is definitely lighter fare, but looked through a focused enough lens, can be seen somewhat philosophically (though rather simple). And yes, most would think the character design sucks/is really weird.
I mean, come on...where else do you have those magic words, which stir the soul and resucitate the fighting spirit....Henshin A Go Go Baby!
Bottom Line: Check it out, while not being subject to drooling (unless you drool over the V-watch and the VFX powers) it is highly worth it. If you watch anime for serious fare, don't bother, unless you actually have a sense of humor.
