I think Production I.G. is going to top GAINAX in the ScrewBall Department with this one.

Ahh-heuh....
Japanaimation's been influencing Western animation, now some Japanese
animators got a look at some 'underground' Western cartooning or something?

As a matter of fact,
it's co-produced/financed by Manga Entertainment.
Looks like something to keep an eye out for. I really love the style, it's a great change from the usual pansyass dating sim anime remakes we keep getting nowadays.

...style reminds me of the stuff MTV used to broadcast late at night...
or some of the adult / underground comics style... Any plot summary, etc.
available on this?

Liquid TV is what you're remembering HF
Yeah, it has an out-there style that isn't
like Aeon Flux (for example), but is still out there.
In that trailer I saw the american comic influences, but I also thought some shots were very reminicent of FLCL.

I saw it at Anime Expo.
It was a wonderfully screwed up roller coaster ride that never gave you room to breath. Don't expect to know what's going on even from the start. It drops you in and goes rip-roaring away from there. Oh God yes.
The audience's reactions were great.
"That is so wrong!"
"Yet oh so right. :D"

While I realize the following comment isn't going to really contribute much to conversation on this...
Am I the only one who wanted to gouge out their eyes with a spoon after watching the trailer?

Hehe, true I don't really think the character designs are very attractive, but I'm always up for something zany and unusual (esp something animated...)

Yes, yes you are. Sorry that the characters don't all have reflective fishbowl eyes and mini-skirts. :-*
I will

It's not as though I need that sort of style to think something looks good (in fact lack of mini-skirts is a definate plus in almost anything). The problem with this one is only partially the character design stlye. The color pallete, the way it's animated, and the way the thing is edited are also contributing factors to what makes this so... eew looking.

I think not.

I guess it just isn't your thing. I've honestly never understood why cartoons must remain completely coherent to be entertaining. It's a gigantic shame, you know, as you're missing out on THE ENJOYMENT OF A LIFETIME.[/capcomguy]
But since they're streaming it, you don't have any excuse to avoid it now. >:|
