Does it count or not?

So my boyfriend and I are having this on going argument about nipples or the lack thereof in anime.

Does the shot of the naked female lead count as naked if there are no nipples drawn or visible?

Due to various taboos and censorship, nipples cannot be aired in japan (although I don't mind airing mine out..but I digress).

However, they usually add them in on DVD releases.

Does it count? Well, yes. They're ne'kid if they ain't got no clothes on!

I use to date a girl that was so pale, her skin was paper white and her nipples were also pale, you can barely tell they existed.

he argues that because there are no nipples, because they aren't drawn that they don't exist. and according to him without the nipple its no different than a really low cut shirt.

his argument says that without nipple its not really arousing.

The human brain is perfectly suited to see patterns / imagine things / fill in the blanks that aren't there.
More interesting is the fact that your boyfriend expresses the need to feel aroused while watching anime.

I have to dig out that episode of Genshiken where Madarame is trying to explain to Saki
about how visual people are overall... maybe that'd help your boyfriend out.

I guess the genetic XY response to the question is "was it good for you as well?"

i guess i didnt explain well. his argument is that it doesnt count as naked woman if there are no nipples because that lack makes the possibility of arousal null.

i already read him the definition when we had the original argument.

frankly i dont get most girls. but thats because my father kidnapped me from my mother and wouldnt give me back. granted he was a bit more on the Renaissance man so i am on the girlie side of tomboy.

I would say it depends on how human it is. I can remember enough anime (just don't ask me which ones) with somekind of naked female like person floating around in vacume,pod, water filled tube, take you pick. Are they nude.... yes. However they are nude the way a robot maybe nude. There are only shapes with some resemblences of humans.
If it's not one of the instances as described above I would say it's nudity.
