"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

@Tau
Maybe I can sneak into a client investment bank's network and plant a 'suggestion' for such a move.
Ugh, I decided to save myself $200 on the Windows tax and try Unbuntu for
a new desktop I built. 3hours to download (over wireless, but it gave me
time to assemble the hardware) but 30mins to install. Great, so I thought.
Riiiiiiiiiiiight.... mount points my flipping arse!! Then there was the fiasco with
the DHCP server setup on my Cisco router. Needless to say, Windows XP
Pro (legitamate) got installed 3 days later
Someone want to still split that MSDN subscription with me?

On a good day, a Tomahawk can fly into the door of a two-car garage at the distance of several hundred miles. And that can ruin your whole day.

Well in this case the following happened.
Warning nerd stuff:
Since Ubuntu desktop comes without tools to create or manage raid devices you have to install them yourself.
Just one apt-get later and you have what you need.
But if you create a raid 5 array in this case with 4 1TB HDD's you would expect it would still be there after a reboot.
Now in case of the Ubuntu Server Edition no problemo works as expected.
But I suspect a small bug in the mdadm tools that came with the download.
After the creation of the raid device you have to create a mdadm.conf file that has all the info about the created array .. and this info was simply wrong..
Now there is a way to generate a new definition in the conf file but even as root you don't have permission to alter the file ....
So I generated the file somewhere else and copied the definition part into the existing conf file and voilla it mounted ... BUT after an reboot it was gone again had to add auto=yes to the definition an finally it was there after a reboot.
Well this was a machine for leeching torrents and playing server.
So had to install wine because my client couldn't do without utorrent.
and in combo with FF 3.5.x we now have a working setup.
Currently am monitoring the smart info from the drives and array health so if something goes wrong he gets an email that the array might die soon.

*enters just as TE is dragged out the door, and the BP is tearing holes in half a dozen patrons*
Huh. Business as usual?
*goes to the bar and slumps over*
Hey, for those out there who are wondering, being a freelance computer technician is an awesome job if you don't have to worry about food or housing or anything important like that. I earned $400 in 2 days of work (10 hours apiece for $20 an hour. I figure I'm under cutting the competition by $30 to $100, so I get paid for being helpful and useful, and Geek Squad loses out).
On another note, it's incredibly tiring. Man, I feel like I haven't been here in forever. Well, let's see...
*Eyes the wall*
Hey, Tau, can I get a Ramune? I'm not really in the mood for alcohol...
*turns to HELLFIRE*
So how's the BP working? Better than it was before? Sorry about the new modifications, but I figured it'd be ok. Oh, and I kinda-sorta put an ignore sub-routine in it so that it doesn't shoot me unless I do something monumentally stupid. Is that ok, too?
