Well, ANOTHER longtime person leaving work again...

...and I got offered their role. I'd be flattered if it wasn't for the fact they're trying to backfill roles like crazy.

Otherwise, I'll take this weekend as a small favor...

Tau, will be sending you a Steam invite shortly...

Tall and Cold, just because.

Will be checking it later this weekend, Tau.

2nd last weekend was the family trip up to Edmonton...

Last weekend was Otafest... thankfully ALOT more relaxed than the last couple of years. I still feel
like I didn't do a whole heck of alot for the events we ran, or get a chance to check out much stuff,
but at this point, I'm not really thinking about it.

...Oh yeah, the Magical Battle Arena tourney we ran was AWESOME!! I need a better video switcher
than a KVM switch though...

Likely have to use this weekend to catch up with stuff, namely more L4D and Wing Commander Saga
time... and generally not think about the politics / drama at work...

Tall and Cold... you know why.

Thanks :)

I fixord the sound cloud link.

I had to cut the song sort by 3 seconds so it would fit the upload limits. Lol

Motu (maker of my audio hardware) finally released windows 8 drivers, so I was able to use all my hardware again. Man how much I prefer hardware synths over software. I simply cannot get the sounds I'm after and the end results are sooooooo much better with hardware. I even gave my samplers a bit of a work out. Lol

I'm happy that you enjoyed it! :)

Star Trek Into Darkness -- well what can I say. I used to think ST5 was the worst story-wise of the bunch,
I'd have to say that ID beats it by a mile now. Plus I'm reminded of one review of ST:Insurrection which went
something along the lines of "[Star Trek] can't convincingly rip itself off anymore..." so much so Abrams had
to pay Leonard Nimoy to come back again as Spock Prime? About the only thing that saved it from complete
banality would be James Cumberland's "don't f**k with me" badassed-ness in every line he has to deliver.

Tall and Cold, it was almost a wasted weekend... Almost.

Oh yes, Whiskey Bravo Killer... was wondering where you were hiding :D

LOL. I was going to see that friday. Maybe I wont now. :)

I was tied up with great many things:

My Fatty PS3 YLOD last month, so we bought the super slim one. I did manage to get the old one up again using the heat gun fix, but just like the majority of YLOD machines, it did it again a couple of weeks later.

My older Son is getting ready for Kindergarten, wo we were doing the registration and Dr. visits for that.

He also re-discovered the WII (since the PS3 was down), so when I got the old one back up for a brief time, and a new one to replace it. I was able to put in another 30 hrs into HNV. If you arn't familiar with it:

And of course, I finished up another Tune. :)

That's what I've been up to, generally speaking.

Try not to spoiler the movie, but :

The Good
- James Cumberland's "don't f**k with me" badassed-ness in every line and action he has to deliver. You SERIOUSLY believe
this guy could kick your arse from here to Pluto and come back for seconds.
- the Earth-bound scenes.. you have to admit, not many ST series or movies could really claim to show such an aesthetic of Earth.
- USS Enterprise... underwater?!
- the crashlanding scene in the trailers... who's driving this popsicle stand?! *nyahaha!*
- nods to previous Trek Lore / terminology
- big kickass ship and big kickass space battle... kinda

The Bad
- the ST:I review comment "[Star Trek] can't convincingly rip itself off anymore..."
- the fact this is pretty much a rip of Diane Carey's novel "Dreadnaught" tailending into TWOK plotline at warp speed then tossed into a blender on 'puree' sprinkled with some sort of meat product -- nuts, do we still have the ECS tags active here?
- plotholes you could drive a trunk through
- predictable ending... once you knew what to look for
- no more Chris Pike / Bruce Greenwood -- Nooooooooo!

The Fappable
- the two twin catgirls? Kirk was boinking near the start of the movie
- Alice Eve gratituous underwear shot -- for all of the two seconds you see it, even though it had NOTHING to do with the story

The Meh
- the movie itself.
- dragging Leonard Nimoy back... okay admittedly the first movie gave it legitimacy, but THIS?! What JJ Abrams
can't get his movie to stand w/o the original cast in it?
- subplot of Kirk acting like a 16y/o who's been given the keys to the car on a "oops, technicality" then Mother
Starfleet saying, "you're grounded. go to your room."

Maybe I'll see it again... just to say I did.

I was about ask what YLOD was... then I googled it. *facepalm*

Been a pretty good week sofar, workload-wise. Nothing blew up in our faces, just the general cleaning up after everyone's
screwups and whatnot.

Tall and Cold, Friday can't get here soon enough

So I went and watched the movie. Taking it for face value it was a good Sci-Fi flick. Looking at it from a Trekkie perspective, it was total crap.

@Killer
Well you can say you went and saw it now.

Was tempted to go see Will Smith's father-son flick, now I'm not sure. This friday's got that
"everything that's illegal is now legal" filme which looks kind of interesting.

@Noir
Whiskey Bravo Comrade... you pop your head up again :-D

Tall and Cold... got the weekend coming up, and my folks' retirement party's coming up.
Of course, being the dutiful son I have to come along... can someone write me a note
so I can call in sick?
