That type of cosplay has actually been around for a while now. It makes it easier for men to crossplay. In fact, there is one crossplayer over here who makes a lot of those costumes.
So just about every time you see one of those costumes...remember...there is most likely a guy under there.
I honestly think they are creepy.

just look so "wrong"

Actually thats not new type of cosplay, its one of cosplay variations. Its called kigurumi and it has been long time among basic cosplay and crossplay (dressing as charachter that is opposite gender). .

Reminds me too much of those cheap kiddy costumes they used to sell in grocery stores before they got yanked for safety reasons....
