Maybe you guys can help me here

You guys seem like a well rounded smart bunch here, so I'll get your opinions on this.
I found this forum for Anime. It's a UK forum. Well, I've never met a person from the UK I didn't like, so I joined. I posted a hello message like everyone else and was greeted nicely and all that. Then I posted in some other places and people were talking to me.
Then someone asked how old I was and where I lived. I'm 31 and from the US. Well, after that no one will talk to me.
Do you think its because I'm 31 or because I'm from the US? or both?
I know its unusual for someone my age to like Anime, but I've loved it since I was a kid. And its tough finding others my age who still watch it. So when the teens see my age, I know it has to be them thinking, "Oh God, who does this old lady think she's kidding?" But I looked for forums with a more mature crowd and I don't see one anywhere!
What do you guys think?

Bah, I'm older than you.
Do what you like, watch what you like, listen to what you like. As long as you're not breaking the law. LOL
After all, if it makes you happy in the end because its something you enjoy, isn't that all that really matters?

You know, when I get a ASL question I usually seriously wonder if I want to be there.
afaik most of the peeps here have passed the hormonal influenced thought age by years now.
I am Taurec and I watch cartoons. (aa* meeting material)
@Joe, I think you are the "pops" right now.

...or at least we HOPE most of our members here have
...
I'm about to break the big 3-0 myself (someday) and admittedly, mentioning
my age to fellow fans is not something I openly broadcast. When you think
about it, it is alittle creepy for some younger fans to even THINK older
people, or heaven forbid (gasp!) their PARENTS might be into something
they like...
IMO, politics should be left for later AFTER you get to know some people, and I
think Taurec has some pretty good advice regarding ASL questions.

@Tau:
I remember when I was a youngin' I had to walk for miles through the snow without any shoes, walking up hill both ways to Japan just to get the raws, which were hand copied frame by frame into clay with a stick! The Subbers then used smoke signals to subtitle it.... AND WE LIKED IT!!

LMFAO @ KiLlEr!
I knew you guys would understand what I was saying. And it's true about the age thing. I prolly would feel the same way if I was that young and someone older was joining a forum like that.
And Taurec, yur so right. I usually rarely ask people's ages because to me everyone is pretty much ageless to me unless they offer the info.
Thanks guys!

Haha, I'll join the discussion:
Hey,
Fan, I would be delighted if I had anime-interested fan your age in real life ^^ (
Most of them are kiddos my age, which becomes boring after some time And it's truly awesome that you liked it (anime), you still like it and don't hide it ^^ But than again, I'm probably closer with the age of those people from the other forum... IMHO they just got embarassed - I'm not a resident of UK, but I believe that youngsters there have to have at least some respect for people older than themselves, thus their embarrasment they said/will say something stupid and will be regarded by you as 'immature'... In my country, all anime and manga fans want to be regarded as 'more mature' (
yah, in my place society thinks of this hobby as 'watching chinese porn-cartoons ><"). Um, does it make sense?
But don't freak out - if they cannot simply accept your age and seem to not notice your great personality... Game Over for them ^^
Ah, and one more question... If I become an adult citizen by the age of 18 in my place, am I allowed to drink in the ba over herer? xD (7 months, 7 months!..)
P.S. Sorry if I sounder like nation-freak or something

Thanks Raspberry!
Feels good to hear someone younger feel that way.
And do you mean can you drink in bars in the US when yur 18 if in your own country its legal when yur 18? I'm not sure but I don't think so. I think we're the only country with the age limit being 21. Am I right about that one guys?

Here it's at 16 ..
Sigh, seemingly a common misconception .. it not "chinese porn-cartoons"
But japanese porn-cartoons.

Living overseas I could drink at any age, could purchase at 16 but once I came over to the States it all became 21.
So the answer to Rasp's question... well, it depends on where you define this forum actually is ^_^ There are quite a few international members here.
Do we go by where the founder is living? Do we go with the majority? Or the individual's physical location?
Trish, I still maintain it's nobody's business ^_~ and I'm still honored to know you

Heh, I think it's cool that older people watch anime. My parents hate(well I dunno about hate) it. But they said they DO find FMP interesting, which is cool. So nah, I don't really think it's weird. So yeah.
And mang I wish the drinking age was 16 here...>____< I gotta get mine the hard way.

I don't know which forum it is that you joined but I've found a few of them to be quite cliquey and although they welcome people when they join they can be pretty quick to just go back to their cliquey ways.
Or it could just be that with summer literally only arriving last weekend here in the UK they might be outdoors trying to make the most of it

True. They did seem a little cliquey there. It's cool though. I like it here.
Plus FMP! being my favorite Anime I have more in common with you guys than anywhere else.
