Lesson #1: read the f*king fineprint. If you don't understand the fineprint, get someone to help you understand it

Lesson #2: get a qualification of 'unlimited' BEFORE testing those limits -- I know,
look up a dictionary for the definition of the word, but it's THEIR network,
and they can as loosely or as tightly define it as they want.

Lesson #3: when in the middle of nowhere in Alberta, get a hobby, preferably a cheap one

I read more on this story in my local paper, and the software itself warns of a per
kilobyte charge when using it. Having been in the tech field for so long, I've
learned that 'I don't know' is a legitimate answer; 'I don't want to know' is not.

.. he should count himself lucky the telco was generous enough to knock down the price.

You've got to love those people that can get something for nothing. He should see it as an expensive lesson in the fact that nothing is free.
Maybe he could deduct it from his tax as schooling :-D
