I think it all comes from you live... My classmate's grandmother, when she came to the city and wanted to cross the street, leaned to the traffic light (which was saying "Red light, please wait. If you want to cross, press the button") and said something like "Good day, I would like to cross now, please." and when the light on itself turned green, she leaned again and politely thanked xD
