Saw a nice blog about virtual worlds and their creators playing olympic style gods.
So do we need gods or are our virtual ego's perfectly capable to handle it all by ourselves?

...either it's too early in the AM... or is Tau getting philisophical on me?
In a loose sense, one who creates something from nothing could be considered
a god. Whether they'll need gods over there, well... Argh, too early in the
AM for me for deep philosophical thinking... I'm going back to bed...

Never saw this day coming!! tau the philosopher.
But as for the question id have to agree with hell.
its a matter of prespective..
Gods exist cause humans made gods to get by harsh situations.
which usually sums up to: Disasters, Wars, Death.
Gods make up for the part where the believer hopes that there was a
higher meaning to the event and that usually helps them to recover easier.
As for example the Game "Black & White" where you play as a god.
and help your minions *cough* people to get by with theyr daily hardships. and eventually conquer the world...
so for your question in do we need gods, if its virtual its more the matter
of "Power" since gods have the power to make something from nothing
and take it away just as fast.. it would be a nice to play as a god wouldnt
it!! *evil laughter or something*
hope this made sense in some way.!

Well specifically I was talking about the creators of virtual worlds like WoW or Second Life.
I know they are (well should be) obligated to iron out bugs and fix flaws.
But some peeps spend massive hours online tinkering with their avatar but if you use the possibilities given by the virtual world and use it for example, talk peeps out of their virtual money should they act?
There is this games called EVE online and as I understand the creators just are fixing bugs and leave everything up to the players .... Yeah we have "real" virtual pirates there.
But being a virtual pirate should that give them rights to just for example nullify your avatar.

Zzzzzz...
...sorry, the preamble of that article put me to sleep
I may be SERIOUSLY misquoting here, but didn't some philosopher say
something to the effect civilization exists only because people want it to
exist, and if it is the will of the masses that it should no longer exists, it
should be broken?
I also feel like quoting some Star Trek or Babylon 5 here, but too deep
a thinking for me right now...

I just skipped to the last few sentences to get the gist because that was just way too much thought for some online game you level up to waste time.
So he's afraid admins will go rogue or something? Hmm, I see how that could be bad, but I'm guessing admins do a lot of peace keeping in games. I don't really see how they impact the majority of players either way.
